it wasn't funny but the humor of the show is based off the interpersonal relationships between each character and these characters are all very disjointed (Lana and Ray, Mallory and Krieger, Pam and Cyril, Cheryl on her own) so there's no way they can crack jokes about Ray being gay or Lana having Truckasaurus hands because they don't know each other. I assume as the show rounds all the characters together more the humor will shine again.
While that's true, the personalities are completely different as well, so them simply "knowing" one another doesn't seem like it would be enough. I mean don't get me wrong, I would be surprised if they don't turn on the juice eventually (and sooner rather than later) but that episode didn't do a thing for me.
I don't disagree but it probably wasn't meant to either. They practically crowbarred Cheryl into the episode so it was clearly all just to re-introduce the characters and their new personas. I'm sure all the latent personalities will return shortly minus a few changes here or there.
Hope pam is his cop buddy this season. Archer Pam moments are some of the best. Weird seeing Krieger as the barback. Loved archer crippling Barry again
Are eating hot dogs and burping supposed to be funny? Sound mixing has always sucked on this show but makes it worse that its not even funny now
this season is pretty bad so far. i'll give it a few more weeks but this plot line seems like a giant misstep
Came here to see if others are as disappointed in the Dreamland reboot or whatever the hell you'd call this time jump as I am. I thought maybe I was crazy or missing the jokes or something. Glad I'm not. But also sad.
Ratings are inconsequential, show has been signed for another 2 seasons and that's when Reed is going to end it. This was probably some creative exercise he wanted to do and the multi-season deal was perfect for it. I really didn't like Archer Vice as a weekly (does a lot better when you binge it on Netflix) so Dreamland may work the same way but yea, it's not "Archer". I'm sure the last 2 seasons will be a return to form and end the show well.
last week and this week made up for that slow start. fantastic episode, easily could have fit in another season if you just changed the time period. should be a good finale next week. knew the season would pay off eventually. eat a dick, GORT.
Started a rewatch and instead of a massive binge session, due to the negative reviews of the current season, I have been slowly taking my time
this season, like Archer Vice, isn't great as a week-to-week but will be really good as a binge watch. serializing animated content seems incredibly difficult, probably because it's hard to get people deeply invested in animated characters as opposed to real people, at least as the case may be with American animated content. virtually all American animated shows aren't serialized and tell a loose story arc at best (oddly enough one of the only ones that doesn't is another Adam Reed IP, Frisky Dingo) so maybe part of the problem is we as viewers aren't conditioned for it. as a side note, go watch all of Frisky Dingo. takes a little under 4 hours, is absolutely hysterical, and you'll pick up a lot of references you probably don't get on Archer (there is Sealab 2021 and FD stuff all over Archer).
had no idea this season was only 8 episodes. finished much stronger than it started, but disappointing season.
really good ending, though. that was just Reed and H. Jon Benjamin saying goodbye to a friend via the show.
this is not the first person I've seen complain about how they uncovered Woodhouse's killer but it was never built up to be the big mystery of the season and damn sure wasn't written that way. the entire middle of the season didn't reference it and it only appeared again at the end. it was just a plot device to kick start the season not a "who shot JR?" thing and that should have been highly evident that this wasn't a "whodunnit?" from the fact that there was little to no sleuthing the entire season. I wouldn't really argue that this was Archer's weakest season but it was just barely Archer until the last 3 episodes and I still think this will hold up better in the future as a binge watch where it's a 160 minute movie that flows very tightly from one episode to the next like Archer Vice. I think there's 2 options: - season 9 is still Dreamland of some sort, potentially in a different setting and then the final season is back to normal more or less - we get like 10 minutes into season 9 and he snaps out of the coma and we get 2 "normal" seasons to end the series Reed did say Dreamland revitalized his drive for the show so I think we'll get some good stuff to go out on over these last 16 episodes.
Liked the final 3 episodes, but they did not make up for the rest of the season. But glad it ended strong at least
