Thanks for the explanation. Wouldn't it be better if there was one central organization that set matches instead of individual promoters and 4 different belts? Just the best fighting the best every month. Probably too far down this road to go to a UFC type set up huh?
It would definitely be easier in terms of making quality fights. But yeah, just impossible to do it at this point.
If he moves to 147, what happens to his 140 belts? Do they go to 4 different guys and the shit starts over?
Like Southlick said, I believe he'll have the chance to defend them if he wants, but yeah, if he's at 147 for good, he'll vacate the belts. At that point, the sanctioning bodies can either set up some title eliminators (almost like a tournament) to get down to two guys to fight for the belt. Or, they can just grab two guys and let them fight for the vacant belts, usually former titleholders or top contenders.
Think that's a clear win for Loma, but the amount of technical skill in the ring between those two...my goodness.
Top Rank may have waited a few years too late for this matchup but if Pacquiao can decisively beat Horn in the rematch it would still be a nice showcase fight for Crawford.
I think Bud deserves a big payday match like that. He's been a top fighter for a while now but hasn't been able to fully cash in. Beating Pac would make him more marketable to the casual fight fan too imo.
if pac takes it he is 1) more money hungry than i ever thought; 2) more of a beast than I ever thought.
I didn't see a thread for the fight, but what are the predictions for Saturday night? I'm guessing most of the money is on Mayweather
1. Floyd will be in great shape. He will be sharp. Best he has looked in 5 years. I think he will throw some big rights. I think he will play to the crowd. I think he is going to be talking shit to Conor. Because of how Conor will throw, I think we will see some great defense as well. 2. Conor's entire career is based off unique movement and we'll see lots of that. He is going to be tough on Floyd on the ropes and in the clinch. I think you will see him yelling at Floyd. See him mad at the ref. I also think you're going to see him land a big left. We will wait the whole fight to see him land another big one and it won't happen. I foresee a lot of people giving Conor credit for hanging tough. 3. Eventually Conor's pace will slow and I think you're going to see Floyd really pick him apart in later rounds. Floyd wins by UD and the MMA fans chalk it up as a win, but boxing fans talk about how Floyd was never in danger. Most people are mad that there wasn't a knockout and claim it was all a farce when in reality both fighters gave it all they had.
1. I will root like crazy for McGregor to win 2. He will not 3. If he someone does, and Canelo beats GGG as well, we will see McGregor-Canelo and it will do a trillion buys
I'd think a rematch would happen before anything else, but it would also do a trillion buys. If Floyd didn't have a perfect record, I'd be concerned he may plan that.
to me GGG would make more sense. Floyd beat Canelo. It's guys like Crawford and GGG, etc that get the never-beaten-by-Floyd new car smell.
tell you what would be insanity, would be a bradley/pac type decision in favor of Conor. I don't know how Floyd would handle that.
Now that is something that has a zero percent chance of happening. If it goes to the cards, Mayweather is going to win. We're talking about boxing judges here.
my thought process is that Floyd is done. it makes more financial sense for Conor to win and contend his title, which he claims he would. You're talking 1 pay day vs 2 or more.
1. McGregor-Canelo would do way more buys than McGregor-GGG 2. If GGG beats Canelo there will be a rematch
SHO PPV, 9:00 pm ET, Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor, Nathan Cleverly vs Badou Jack, Gervonta Davis vs Francisco Fonseca, Andrew Tabiti vs Steve Cunningham. Alright. Here it is. All the nonsense, all the hype, all the lead-up ends, and these two finally get in the boxing ring and put this to rest. The undercard is decent — Cunningham is a nice veteran test for Tabiti, Cleverly-Jack could be fun, and Davis is someone worth watching even if this isn’t the best matchup. For $100, that might not be enough for some people, but the casual interest in the main event will carry them over the mark on selling the show, so whatever, really.
HBO, 9:45 pm ET, Miguel Cotto vs Yoshihiro Kamegai, Rey Vargas vs Ronny Rios. HEY! So you’re NOT spending $100 on Mayweather-McGregor, for whatever reason you have, surely valid. But you want to watch boxing on Saturday night. Well, HBO has you covered on the old TV.
