Well Canelo's going to have that. Already rumors that Canelo will skip the Saturday morning weigh-in that the IBF requires to fight for its belt (requires fighter to be within 10 pounds of the fight weight limit.) Jacobs also skipped this.
Not rumors. There will be no same-day weigh-in for this fight. But I think jacobs length played a bigger factor against golovkin than his weight did. Canelo can't mimic that.
Yeah, I agree. I do think the weight stuff with Jacobs on fight day messed with GGG's head a bit, even if it wasn't the primary reason Jacobs gave him issues.
If Canelo loses this fight, Golden Boy is really going to have to look in the mirror and question if they handled Canelo well they last two years. Khan, Liam Smith and JCC Jr to get ready for GGG? Putting a lot of pressure/stock in Canelo being in his prime and GGG perhaps slowing a tad. Canelo hasn't faced a true aggressive power puncher in two years.
idk I think if Canelo can't beat him now, then he never would have either. The delay seems clearly intentional
I don't have a real problem with the delay. It's more about who Canelo fought during the delay. I think they could have prepared him better, but maybe the delay itself is all he'll need. I'm skeptical though.
I don't think risking Canelo against a Lemieux or Stevens type was worth it considering this payday was down the road.

There are always streams but you really should buy this fight. I can't imagine it not living up to the hype.
Both are good exciting fighters. They both appear to be decent human beings. They both have power. If you want to root for the winner GGG. If you want to root for the Mexican that looks Irish Canelo. I am team GGG my family is Canelo.

This Saturday night, the long-awaited match between two of boxing's best -- and most popular -- fighters in Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) is finally here. GGG is currently the unified WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion while Canelo holds the WBO middleweight belt. What are the best bets for this exciting fight? Here's a look at where the money is going from Vegas bookmakers, along with opinions from boxing experts, trainers and my pick for the fight. Where is the money going? Jeff Sherman, sportsbook manager at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, opened the fight with GGG -150 and Canelo +130. "Initially we saw some sharp support for Alvarez and dipped to as low as -140/+120," Sherman told me. "The recent handle has been tremendous with solid two-way action and the current line is GGG -150 and Canelo +130." The Westgate also posted the total of the fight at 9.5 rounds over -200 and under +175. Sherman saw steady support on the over and has adjusted to price to over -250 and under +200. At William Hill US, senior trader Adam Pullen opened the fight with GGG -160 and Canelo +140, but early action on Canelo has lowered the fight to -145/+125. Tale of the tape GGG: The 35-year-old from Kazakhstan, now fighting out of Los Angeles, has made 18 title defenses of his middleweight crown since beating Nilson Tapia in 2010. He sports a 18-0 record in those defenses with 17 KOs and was taken the distance for only the fourth time in his career last March with a unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs. He will be making his first appearance in Las Vegas and will try to lay claim as to the best middleweight and pound-for-pound fighter in the world Saturday night. Canelo: The 27-year-old has become a boxing icon of sorts from Mexico, which has a proud history of boxers. He is ranked No. 6 on ESPN's pound-for pound fighter ranking, and is 10-1 in world title fights (his sole loss coming to Floyd Mayweather in 2013). He has rattled off seven straights win since that loss, scoring four KOs. According to CompuBox, he lands 46 percent of his power shots. This will be his second fight at 160 pounds or above as he has been fighting several fights at catch weights from 155 pounds to 164 pounds. Canelo is a very good fighter and began his professional career at the young age of 15 in Mexico. He was brought along methodically, was gaining momentum and appeared to be the boxer ready finally defeat Mayweather. Many picked him to win, including myself, but he was not ready and was soundly beaten even though one judge inexplicably judged the fight a draw while the other two judges had him losing 116-112 and 117-111. He has a vicious body attack, very good hand speed and power. He does very well with fighters who trade with him like Alfred Angulo, James Kirkland, Josesito Lopez and Kermit Cintron, but struggles with boxers like Mayweather and Erislandy Lara. Canelo is looking to lay his claim as the best middleweight in the world and quiet his detractors who think he ducked GGG and was forced into this fight by public demand. Betting the fight The trainers and sharps are picking GGG to win by an 8-1 margin. This fight opened overseas a year ago with GGG being near -550, and even though he rattled off two wins over Kell Brook and Jacobs the line shortened up considerably. Has GGG shown vulnerability and has Canelo improved enough to defeat him? I believe GGG is the real deal in the ring and should be able to secure the win. I am fearful of the judges being appointed to this fight in Dave Moretti, Adalaide Byrd and Don Trella, as Moretti and Byrd in particular have been overly kind to Canelo in the past. I am making it 9-1 in favor of GGG to beat Canelo but as mentioned in the event it does go to the cards, this has controversy written all over it. Pick: GGG -150 or better.
GGG has to win at least 8 rounds clearly to be comfortable with a decision, everything is tilted in favor of Canelo. GGG is miles ahead of guys like Angulo, Kirkland, etc who traded with Canelo and is a legit middleweight. GGG's been hit harder than anything Canelo can bring while this will be the hardest Canelo has been hit.
He is not a bum. He might be around my 3rd favorite fighter. Him, GGG, Bud, One Time and Danny Garcia and Porter Oh yeah Dontay they are all my top 3. Krusher if he comes back. Mickey Garcia is also up there.
Canelo has improved a lot over the years. He's got fast hands, throws really good combinations, has legit power, and has very fluid upper-body movement in his defense. As a GGG fan, I would've liked to see this fight get made back in 2015. But the fight now is far more intriguing than it would've been back then or even a year ago. Canelo has a legit shot, especially if you factor in the potential for home-cooking from the judges. With all that said, ggg is favored for a reason. Canelo still lacks the footwork and range of a guy like Jacobs. I feel like Canelo is going to have a tough time keeping Gennady out of his face. Canelo likes to have his opponent come to him and do work off his counters. He wants his opponent to be aggressive and throw a lot to open themselves up in order to get his own offense going. And that tactic works against a guy like Liam Smith, who is out there throwing pillows. But how do you absorb that against a guy like golovkin who's punching like a mule with every shot he's taking. Even his jab is a borderline power punch. Unless he comes out with a new gameplan for this fight, i's really hard to imagine him surviving in a fight against golovkin. Canelo has a great chin. I can't really recall him ever looking like he's in serious trouble. But he's going to be receiving consistent blows to he's not used to out there on Saturday. Just real hard to imagine those not wearing him down in the later rounds and taking him out of the fight.
Good analysis. I highlighted the part about the footwork or lack thereof regarding Canelo which likely dooms him in this fight. I consider Canelo a brilliant upper body fighter but his lower body can betray him. Throws beautiful punches when the other guy is in front of him but can't make another really skilled guy miss either. Can't take too many GGG power shots and withstand that jab all night. Canelo's biggest hope is that GGG is 35 and has slowed down just enough. Still think it will be exciting while it lasts.
Canelo seems like a stand up dude, esp after reading about him in the paper, but I'm rooting for the kazakhi (sp?). Getting to the top of anything coming out of there is an impressive story.

Not sure about that. They're catering to the east coast with this one. Prelims are supposed to begin at 8 est instead of the usual 9 pm start time. Being on a flight that lands at 10 is going to be pushing it, unless all the prelims go to decision or they stall for an hour to maximize ppv buys.
