Nice HBO card tonight. Get in front of the TV on time, as Valdez is special. HBO / BoxNation (UK), 9:45 pm EST, Timothy Bradley Jr vs Jessie Vargas, Oscar Valdez vs Ruben Tamayo. Bradley takes on Vargas in the main event, with Jessie moving back up to 147 pounds for money and an opportunity, both good things to want in boxing. Valdez will get his first HBO showcase -- he's perhaps the Mexican equivalent to Felix Verdejo, an exciting, powerful puncher at 130 pounds who has a star quality. It wouldn't even be crazy to project way down the road a big Verdejo-Valdez fight from Top Rank.
Tonight is HBO's 1000th fight broadcast, so there's supposedly a badass intro/montage happening. 9:45 sharp.
Tamayo is a tough cookie. Good chin. Valdez needs to incorporate a jab, would give him another look to throw at guys. He's definitely still a DUDE though, throws hard, works head and body, good feet.
I like Kellerman but that was the dumbest thing I ever heard. "He would be the only person with wins over Pacquiao/Marquez/Mayweather" Well no shit because that would be Mayweathers only loss
Thurman's on ESPN against Collazo on July 11th I think. Other than that, and a Carl Frampton fight at some time, yeah.
Bradley might as well take two pillows into the ring and swing as hard as he does with his regular punches. Awesome heart and work ethic to overcome a huge lack of skill.
Besides Bradley (mayweather) who has beaten Pac and Marquez? Who has fought all 3 and beaten at least 2? It would be a big deal.
He was at the very least on Queer Street. Ward said, "Bradley is out on his feet!" He was at least conscious enough to grab and try to protect himself, but he was a good punch away from going- 10 seconds could have done it... Do I think he loses the fight? No, but it's horrible that the opportunity to win was taken from him incorrectly by the referee. It's crazy that Bradley buckled the way he did and didn't go down... And then to survive... Bradley is tough as hell. Mayweather would destroy him.
I was pretty out if it myself last night. I should have just written o didn't think Bradley would have gone down with 7 seconds left in the fight.
Kell Brook says they're close to finalizing Brook-Brandon Rios for sometime in September. Good scrap.
Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev Clash on The Horizon? Posted by: Steve Kim on 7/3/2015 . by Steve Kim There are rumblings that a fight, between WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev and WBA super middleweight ruler Andre Ward (28-0, 15KOs), is in the early stages of discussion for sometime in 2016. Kathy Duva, the head of Main Events (which promotes Kovalev) confirmed to BoxingScene.com on early Friday evening - ''I've had another conversation this week with the people from Roc Nation and it is definitely something that is being discussed and ultimately likely to happen." Kovalez (27-0-1, 24KOs) faces Nadjib Mohemmedi on July 25th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, while Ward recently returned to the ring on June 20th in Oakland, dispatching Paul Smith in nine rounds at a catch-weight of 172 pounds. So when will this showdown take place? "As far as Sergey is concerned, right now, we have a plan for him to fight in Russia this fall and then probably come back on HBO in February or March," Duva explained. "If that can be the Ward fight and I'm not sure it can because I think he's talking about fighting in November or December. So we're probably looking at next spring." It's still up in the air if Kovalev's return to Russia will be televised Stateside on HBO, which just recently signed him to a long-term deal. "It's possible if HBO can accomodate it, yes. It will depend on their schedule - which is never easy anywhere. We're trying to find a date that works for both entities, the arena in Russia and HBO."
