I don't like this deal but I will say I have always liked Daley. That deal also means the Hawks won't be taking a step back next year, they are going for it again. Independent of the deals made this offseason, if you look at the roster as it's currently built it's a cup favorite. Thought Stan would take a step back. Doesn't look like that was ever the plan.
Article from yesterday doesn't exactly paint Daley's skills in a positive light. http://www.defendingbigd.com/2015/7...trade-dallas-stars-cody-franson-offseason-nhl
I'm probably in the minority on this but I'm fine with this return. Daley has talent. Had a bad year but he can play. He also is a LHD that we need. Its not easy to move talent when the league knows you have no choice. Not going to kill Stan for this. Like I mentioned before I have learned to trust him on all moves. Hes earned that.
Eric Lear @BHTVeric 7m7 minutes ago Bowman on Trevor Daley: "We've always marveled at Trevor's ability to skate." He's coming off a career year offensively. #Blackhawks
Daley is awful @HawksNumbers: Daley's relative CF% of -9.07 and relative FF% of -8.44 were both worst in the NHL for defensemen. Relative SC% of -7.95 2nd worst. @HawksNumbers: Daley was worst on the Stars (5v5 adj) in Corsi for% (46.05), Fenwick for% (46.71), and scoring chances % (47.73)
Is last year an anomaly or has he always been a marginal guy? That's a sizable salary for a shitty player
I asked @HawksNumbers: On the bright side, Daley's 13-14 season was more productive. His CF% of 51.09 was 2nd among Dallas D, FF% of 51.55 was #3
@SteveBurtch: Trevor Daley's passing results are like Kimmo Timonen from the #Hawks last season - have fun with that CHI?
Welp... @BrianHedger: If #Blackhawks don't sign Oduya, because of Daley, look for Oduya to maybe sign in Dallas. Was looking there before waiting for CHI offer
Thinking about this more... Stan has gone off the rails here. Oduya is going to sign with Dallas now and it'll be Sharp, Oduya and Johns for fucking Garbutt and Daley. Now looking at these numbers on Daley... I mean... they are frighteningly bad. He skates well and looks the part. I guess I'm way off on thinking he was good.
The problem is this resulted in very little cap savings. About as much as if they had just given versteeg away. Hawks are still over the cap and don't have Kruger or oduya and gave away their best prospect. I hate this off season
Pokka is good. TVR is good. Forsling is good. Norell, Snuggerud and Press are good prospects. I don't care about the general outflow of prospects, just this specific one. There are alot of people doom and glooming right now. You can lose alot of trades and still win alot of games. Hell, I don't think we've difinitively won one since Brouwer/1st trade. The team on paper still looks really strong. This forward group is phenomenal.
three things: 1) Stan prolly waited too long to move Sharp and the market deteriated 2) no team wants to help the blackhawks 3) Bickell is unmoveable- so that deal looks even worse now
@ESPNChiPowers: Stars GM Jim Nill says Stephen Johns was a big part of the trade. If he was going to give up Daley, he had to get quality D-man back. Bowman targeted Daley
So oduya had terrible possession numbers the 4 years before joining the Hawks then was a possession driver all 4 years in Chicago. So maybe all is not lost
Id have rather kept both and just cut Sharp loose. I know this is redundant but Im probably gonna kick and scream about this one for awhile.
Even strength Corsi the 4 years before joining the Hawks and corresponding defensive zone start percentage Player A: 43.2/46.9, 46.5/49.2, 49.4/49, 48.5/48.8 Player B: 47.3/51.6, 46.9/54.7, 51.5/52.2, 46.6/52.5
Correct. Oduya sucked but played protected shifts, daley sucked but got tough zone starts. Didn't look up their qual comp stuff though
So the logic is we took a younger version of Oduya and dealt Johns to compete for a cup now? I can see that but I think we should have asked for them to retain more salary or took a draft pick instead of that forward.
What Bowman has done says to me he thinks the Hawks can contend next year. I agree about the salary. I would have asked for them to keep at least 25% of Daley's money
Chris Kuc@ChrisKuc 8m8 minutes ago No deal between Marcus Kruger and #Blackhawks is looming. Center is waiting for Hawks to be ready to re-engage on exploring a longer term.
