It’s a full night of action from DC Comics on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, as The CW presents two all-new half-hour specials, DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: THEIR TIME IS NOW (9:00-9:30pm ET/PT), and DC FILMS PRESENTS: DAWN OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE (9:30-10:00pm ET/PT), which features the world premiere of the new trailer for the upcoming feature film “Suicide Squad.” The specials will premiere following an original episode of THE FLASH (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT). DC FILMS PRESENTS: DAWN OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE invites viewers behind the scenes of the exciting new movies coming out of the DC Films universe, culminating in the thrilling world premiere of the all-new trailer for “Suicide Squad,” DC’s misfit crew of antiheroes forced into saving the world this summer, with director David Ayer. Hosted by filmmaker/writer/lifelong comics fan Kevin Smith, with special guest DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns, the special showcases the explosive landscape of DC’s greatest heroes, kicking off with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” in theatres this March, and with a sneak peek from the upcoming Wonder Woman feature film. Get a look at never-before-seen footage, and see interviews with such stars as Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, and directors Zack Snyder and Patty Jenkins—just a few of the creative forces behind the much-anticipated film franchise that will bring together the greatest collective of Super Heroes in the upcoming Justice League feature film. And because no Super Hero could make his or her mark without a truly formidable foe, the special also provides glimpses of DC’s most famous Super Villains.
Spoiler Rumor Patrol: Early Batman V Superman Review is Extremely Positive In just under three months, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment will get the ball rolling on their shared comic book movie universe (dubbed the DC Extended Universe). Zack Snyder’s highly-anticipated Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice serves as the real launching point for the franchise, but many fans are approaching the project with trepidation. After Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, divided critics and audiences, just about every development with Batman V Superman has been a lightning storm for controversy. It’s not an understatement to say there is a lot of pressure on Dawn of Justice to deliver and become a fan-favorite hit in March 2016. If the movie is a failure, the DCEU could end before it even begins. Everyone is curious to see how the movie will be received, and if a supposed leaked early review of Batman V Superman is any indication, DC fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Heroic Hollywood caught wind of a post from Reddit user ViolatingNDA, who claimed to have attended a screening of the film on December 29, 2015 in Los Angeles. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive, punctuated by the hyperbolic statement that Batman V Superman will go down as the greatest comic book film since The Dark Knight. ViolatingNDA feels that even though the movie is long (reportedly 151 minutes), it flows nicely and everyone in the crowded cast plays a key role as a valuable piece to the larger puzzle. He/she alleges that there were 20-30 people in attendance at the screening and everyone left the theater pleased with the results. ViolatingNDA spent a lot of time praising the performances, particularly Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg. The former was considered the “standout” of the film and portrayed a frightening version of Batman that could come across as a villain to some viewers. It’s also alleged that Eisenberg steals every scene he’s in and will leave fans wanting more. The review makes a bold comparison to Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning turn as the Joker, calling this Luthor “multi-layered” and “complex.” In addition, ViolatingNDA explains that the bemoaned Doomsday reveal in the third trailer is merely the “tip of the iceberg,” echoing statements made by members of the Dawn of Justice crew. Before fans start getting excited, there are a lot of potential red flags here. Obviously, anybody online can say that they’ve seen a highly-anticipated film and make something up, so one has to wonder how valid this is. In the Reddit thread, ViolatingNDA posted an apparent screen shot of his confirmation to attend a “mystery screening” from WB, and HH‘s Umberto Gonzalez tweeted today that the screening did in fact take place. While the truth may never be fully revealed, there’s at least some evidence pointing towards the film being shown, lending credence to ViolatingNDA’s review. It’s important to keep those grains of salt handy, but test screenings do happen from time to time in the film industry. Considering the Reddit post is legitimate, it still doesn’t mean Batman V Superman will be the critical darling ViolatingNDA says it will be. History has a horrible track record with test screening reactions serving as an indicator for the film’s overall quality. Disney boasted that Million Dollar Arm (starring Jon Hamm) scored higher than any movie from the Mouse House or WB before, only for the baseball drama to land softly at the box office. In contrast, Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity was not exactly praised after its first showings, but it went on to win Best Director and six other Oscars. So nobody really knows what to expect until critics see the final product and start weighing in once a formal review embargo lifts. Until that happens with Batman V Superman, its ranking among superhero movies will remain a mystery. More:http://heroichollywood.com/home-1/batman-v-superman-review-leaks-on-reddit
Amber Heard in Talks to Star in 'Aquaman' (Exclusive) http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/amber-heard-talks-star-aquaman-848622
I liked the longer trailers, but I don't like Affleck in the new "do you bleed" 30 second trailer and I'm a worried. I understand they probably put it in the trailer because its a great one line, but in context it didn't seem strong. Anyway, I'm kinda stunned a new Batman-ish movie is like 2 months away. Between the Star Wars orgy going on and this, what a time to be alive.
IMO: How did that not seem strong? He is a human and knows this alien can destroy him and even though the alien is telling him to stop doing what he's doing he just looks him in his face and says that line. Doesn't even make it seem like he heard him or cares about what he says. Just straight ignores his warnings and asks him a threatening question. I think that was great. I can't wait.
Ben's face is soft. I'm still excited for the movie, but I'm a tad concerned. I did like the longer teaser trailers.
Anyone else annoyed by the fact that the Joker is just a nutjob in lipstick? I prefer my Jokers to have freakishly large grins.
He's gonna suck. I've held out optimistically that he's not going to because I felt the same way about Ledger. Then I saw the first preview with Ledger and was blown away. Flashy Joker is a thing in the DC universe. He's the clown prince of crime, but a Russian mobster looking Joker is going to fall on his face because audiences are going to be directly comparing him to Ledger's. It's a no win from the start. That, with the tattoos and shit it doesn't have the same effect as Ledger and the scars.
I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm because Zach Snyder can make a movie visually stunning and still fall flat. This looks cool ass though.
I remember when I thought the New Star Trek trailer using Beastie Boys was the worst musical selection I've heard to tie into a film... What a distraction from the footage.
My only issue beyond Affleck is can anyone else cast carry a movie? I understand that the characters are the stars but I'm not sure if Miller or Fisher can carry it standalone. Say what you want about Marvel, but at least they cast established people, other than Henworth.
LOL what? the guy carrying Captain America has not had a hit movie unless you count not another teen movie. Pratt only had Parks and Rec and cameo in Zero Dark thirty.
I at least knew who Evans and Pratt were. I have zero idea of anything Miller and Fisher have appeared in. That's my point. Maybe it's just me.
What the fuck? Chris Evans was an established hollywood person before Captain America. Chris Evans movies bigger than Ezra Millers biggest credit before being cast as the Flash (Perks of Being a Wallflower): Fastastic 4 and it's sequel The 2007 TMNT movie Not Another Teen Movie Cellular Push Street Kings The Losers Chris Pratt you have a better argument for, but he was also more well known than Miller or Fisher when he was cast and was also cast in The Lego Movie and Jurassic Park at about the same time as Guardians (cast in all three in 2013)
Action looks great, but they still refuse to let us hear Gal Gadot deliver one single line, which is worrisome, IMO.
I've liked everything I saw tonight. Suicide Squad's Joker will probably be a let down, but I figured that going in. As long as the rest of the movie is great, which that trailer looked pretty good to me, outside of the distracting music that's been mentioned.
