Hahaha, I work at a daily newspaper w/ a four person staff. We don't have departments, its anything and everything. My degree is in journalism/ sports information. So what I will do next is get on w/ a media relations gig somewhere hopefully or move up to a sports editor spot.
Abdullayev set for the future 04/07/2010 Everton have negotiated a deal with Azerbaijan club Neftchi Baku that provides the first option to sign 18-year-old whizz kid Araz Abdullayev. Presumably he will continue to develop within his native football environment until ripe for the picking. Original Source: Official Everton Website
Sounds good. My granddad was a sports editor. First full time Nascar writer ever and also covered ACC basketball. I was sports editor in high school for our paper, but never went beyond that. That would be so dreamy to write about sports AND get paid. I need to change my life plan.
Some more info from GOT: Since he's not so big in any other country, a few words about him: He's a left attacking midfielder, who has played with success as an AM and RM, but was a disaster as a LB. Born: 1992-04-18. Height: 180 ?m Weight: 65 kg. Strengths: Ball controll, technique, flair Weaknesses: Physique, stamina, character. Broke through in 2008, when someone on Berti Vogts' staff noticed him playing for the reserves of Baku and took a gamble on him. As a result, he played his first team league match after being called up for the full national side at 16. Right now he's out of men's national team because he showed up late for the team bus. Vogts asked him what's wrong, Araz answered "I was tired", and the coach replied "You must rest then." He's been resting for 6 months now. He's had trials with Rubin (Kazan), had training sessions with Bayer (Leverkusen), Udinese, Real Castilla and several Turkish and Russian clubs. Apparently we first became interested in him after he scored a wondergoal against the Scottish U21. A trial was arranged, he was supposed to go along on the Scottish tour for the reserves... and then his visa application was denied. His club's president went along with him on a personal appeal to the British ambassador in Baku, the ambassador got a signed shirt and a tourist visa was granted. So he was in Liverpool for a couple of days, had a medical, but has since returned. So right now we've signed him, but since he cannot get a working visa, he will play on loan at his home club for 6 months. The press has not mentioned anything about the price, but here's what Naftchi's president had to say (words to warm Bill's heart): "We only want the best for Abdullyaev... We do not intend to profit from his transfer - in fact we don't need a single manat [the currency unit] from this transfer" He's young, has room to get bigger, but here's a picture of him:
Newcastle sniff Gosling stinker In a reiteration of the story carried in The People last weekend, Skysports.com claim that Newcastle are planning a shock move for Everton starlet Dan Gosling. Everton risk losing highly-rated midfielder Gosling on a free transfer following a contract wrangle. It is understood the Premier League have been asked to make a ruling after the England Under-21 prospect was not given a new contract offer in writing. Everton claim they offered Gosling a rise verbally, but nothing was sent to him by the due date and he could be available for nothing. The news has alerted a number of clubs to Gosling's possible availability and newly-promoted Newcastle are thought to monitoring the situation. Newcastle do not have much money to spend in this summer's transfer window and landing Gosling for nothing would be a massive coup for the Magpies. Gosling, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, is highly-regarded at Goodison Park and Everton are loathe to lose the 20-year-old.
CITY MAKE OUTRAGEOUS BID FOR ARTETA MANCHESTER CITY have thrown Stephen Ireland, Nedum Onuoha and Michael Johnson into the package as part of a plan to sign Mikel Arteta. All three have been offered in a swap deal to tempt Everton manager David Moyes to sell his star asset. Despite City's swollen squad, they are trying to sign Arteta for a touch of magic in the centre of midfield. The Spaniard, 28, is one of the most accomplished players in the Premier League but Moyes does not want to sell. Ireland and Onuoha are expected to hold talks about their future with Italian coach Roberto Mancini this week. But although Moyes does not want to lose Arteta, he is interested in a deal for Onuoha. The Toffees chief wants to strengthen his defence and believes the 23-year-old's versatility would be a big plus. He plans to use Onuoha in a right-back role despite the former England Under-21 star normally turning out as a centre-half. Onuoha has grown unhappy at his lack of chances at Eastlands and is keen for a move to kickstart his career. He only made five Premier League starts last season under Mancini and has aired his frustrations in public. Everton are willing to pay him £25,000 a week to switch down the M62 but it is the chance of a regular starting spot that will most appeal to the youngster.- Source News of the World
