Hit the water for four hours this morning, nary a bite. Water temp was 61* so it shouldn't be long now.
went out to a pond this morning caught 2 fat crappie and 3 throwback black bass my buddies caught 1 throwback black bass and 0 they are not speaking to me
Have fallen in love with fishing even though I suck at it. Got some gear for Christmas and am waiting for the weather in NJ to warm up to the 40s-50s. Live next to the Delaware River and plenty of small lakes so I plan on fishing there and in some nearby creeks. Mostly bass, trout and catfish in the area. I was planning on buying some kastmasters and lures that are 1/4 or 1/6 oz.
Taking a fly fishing leisure skills class at school. I've bass fished my whole life, but never tried fly fishing. It's a blast so far. Heading up to Brevard in a few weeks and then over to the Chattooga.
whereabouts on the Chattooga? usually my go-to river. headed up to fish the South Holston next weekend, pretty pumped. if you find that the more refined version of fishing suits you, we have our own thread: http://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/fly-fishing.78972/#post-3991188
I live in Clemson, so I imagine not too far from there. There was mention of a section that's fly fishing only, I think? And I believe that's where we'd go.
It was 48 here. I quit once the wind started picking up and my hands started freezing but it was a successful morning.
Got my shitty kayak re-rigged and a Lowrance 4X HDI on the way. Saving my pennies and hope to buy a new yak in September. Oklahoma has a kayak bass fishing tournament series that I'm going to get into. Thinking about jumping into it this year, but they are already 1 tournament down out of 5.
This weekend is the world's largest muskie expo here. I'm going to buzz in and get my reel cleaned for free by the Shimano reps, sit in on a few seminars, and hopefully keep my spending to under $200. I just learned how to make my own bucktails, though, so my "spending limit" may get amended.
Went to my buddy's pond and helped him thin out the black crappie. Also picked up a 16" LMB. Spoiler Spoiler
Doing it right, crappie and morels a damn good combo. Used to go morel hunting all the time with my grandmother hard to beat
Went bass fishing at Lay Lake yesterday. It was a lot colder than it has been (thus the sweet-ass tiny jacket I had to borrow), but there was absolutely no wind. We caught two fish between 6:30 and 11:00 and then eleven between 11:00 and noon (when we unfortunately had to leave). All largemouth between 1 and 4 lbs except for a couple of small spotted bass.
Literally every fish was caught on an unweighted, junebug trick worm. They wouldn't touch anything else.
I'm taking the boat out today. Sucks that they don't open the launch ramp until 7:30. I lose the best hour of the day sitting around waiting.
so I have caught the fishing bug, but I literally know nothing other than how to use the rod. Only time I have ever caught anything was down in the keys fishing off a very short pier using frozen shrimp for bait, so pretty much just dumb luck. Live in Central Florida, ton of lakes and rivers around here, and also easy access to the atlantic. What should I be fishing for? What kind of bait should I be using? How do I learn what the fuck a jig is and all the other basic fishing shit that some people just seem to know? Going back to the keys next month, will have the little dude with me so I want to be able to catch something, I have a feeling once he gets to actually land a few fish he will be all in.
Living in Central FL, you've got world class bass fishing at your finger tips. Start your little man off on some bream fishing and you'll be good.
seems like freshwater is your most convenient fishing option and central florida is loaded with good spots to fish. i'd focus on bass, bream, or crappie. somebody else would have to give you tips on saltwater fishing anyways. i'd probably start with soft plastics and work up from there. you can usually always catch something with soft plastics. the website has a lot of videos on rigging and fishing various techniques http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/How-To-Fishing-Videos http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/jigs http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/rods-reels-videos you should probably start off with spinning gear. also, spend time practicing knots.
thanks all, i've been doing a lot of googling this morning, need to step up my tackle game for sure, I appreciate all the advice. Once I get a little practice on the lakes around the house, will be heading up to Lake George, its close and seems like a good place.
