No time. Meetings run from 7 am until dinner, by the time I'm back in the room it's dark. I'll be back up though so this is sort of a scouting trip anyway.
The Jackson River is right there near Covington right? It's one of the best tailwaters in the south east.
There is some crazy crown grant bullshit on that river. Despite the river being navigable a few landowners have rights to block access to waders and boaters. Still plenty of great water and large fish.
there's also the New River and the James around there. fantastic for smallmouth. not sure how much is wadable, but you could probably rent a kayak or canoe somewhere. damn i need to get back up there. my uncle owns a few rental cabins in Shenandoah. my cousin was there last fall and caught around 80 smallmouth in one day.
Thanks. Was so much fun watching the fish rise to the fly and learning the timing to set the hook. Missed a few for sure. Way different than saltwater fishing on spinning rods. This was more of a family trip that I was able to squeeze some fishing into. Can't wait to go on just a fishing trip one day out here.
Leaving at 4:30 am tomorrow to fish the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, plan on having lines in the water by sunrise and will be there until sundown. Will post pics if I catch any reds or specks
http://www.ncwildlife.org/Fishing/WheretoFish/PublicMountainTroutWatersSearch.aspx New resource launched by NC Wildlife Resource Commission. You can choose different kinds of water and other stream features and it will tell you where you should try to fish.
Fished from 6am to 8:30pm and this was the only little guy that I caught. Caught him on a drop shot rig with live shrimp. Beautiful fish Having a buddy of mine that has a boat take me out in a week or two to teach me the area
I'll be with a guide in roatan Honduras. I've only been saltwater fly fishing once and I didn't catch anything. Caught plenty in fresh water.
Your guide will obviously be the best help as far as patterns and finding fish goes. To help yourself before getting down there, practice double hauling and being able to pick up and throw up to 40' or more at a moments notice with minimal false casting. Wind is always going to be your arch nemesis on the flats, so get out and practice throwing into it if you have the opportunity beforehand. Outside of the FL Keys, bonefish really aren't the legendarily hard to catch fish they're often portrayed. Have fun.
I've been in contact with a captain over in Merritt Island to set up a flats trip for reds and trout. Figured it would be the easiest and fastest way for me to learn the area. Not sure if anyone ITT is in the central FL area and would have interest in such a trip, but if so, let me know. A trip for 2 people is $200, all you need to bring is food and drinks.
Pretty good day today. Caught 4 bass, some nice sunfish, and this ugly bastard . 5wt with 5x tippet, hooked perfectly in the corner of the mouth to where she couldn't bite me off. She took me on a pretty good run down the creek, and tried to get airborne a few times. I was absolutely covered in slime afterwards, but it was worth it. Took my rod and reel in the shower with me once I got home.
Very shallow. Less than knee deep in a lot of places. Waist deep is about the deepest pocket I've found so far.

had a miss with a sunfish streamer. grabbed my baitcaster and pitched a rubber ribbit frog over there. but you can imagine what it would be like if i did
im sure how i feel about the googly eyes. most of mine have painted barbell for eyes. i'm okay with that.
I'm with a group of people and they wanted to leave at like 11 so I didn't get much time to fish. No luck. Let us know how you do
caught a 17 inch keeper spec, 10 specks in the 10 -12 inch range that we released, a lady fish, 2 hard heads, a 3 foot shark, and a bluefish
launched out of Ocean Springs MS. We fished Katrina Reef which is close to the coast then went out to Cat Island which is probably 20-30 miles offshore. Hit a bunch of buoys that usually hold cobia when they're in season but struck out. They start in Florida and make there way over here usually in the hotter months. It might not quite be season for them here yet. We checked a bunch of crab traps and trash and structure for triple tail but no luck there. It was so hot. Heat index of 110. I caught all my fish on popping cork and live shrimp and treble hook. Guy I was fishing with did the same but also caught many on gulp shrimp under popping cork. My new shimano rod and reel are awesome. Got the symtre reel, smooth.
Went with a group of friends to the beach and decided to do a little surf fishing while they screwed around on a raft. Caught 3 small whiting, a nice sheepshead, and 2 flathead cats. I'll probably end up throwing the cats out
