so... I'm an absolute retard... I put weed and feed on the lawn yesterday. Near my raised bed boxes but most certainly not in them. I was very careful to keep that shit out of the boxes and away from my plants. Question is... am I completely fucked even doing that or should I be alright? I inspected everything in the boxes and it appears that none of the product got in but I am still nervous as fuck.
Be careful mowing that you don't blow anything into the beds If you don't bag your clippings you may want to this week just in case
Just be careful, I've used stronger stuff grass and weed killer, close to my flowers and blackberry bushes and they're all still doing fine this year
So get this, this year is the first year I didn't plant everything in the ground (at the insistence of the wife) Did a couple raised beds and a couple of old ice chests for all my tomatoes and peppers Filled em all with the same garden mix from local place (whittlesey) Planted all the plants the same day, bought them all from the same place This is what the ones in the raised beds look like Peppers: Tomatoes: (just watered by hand because I have been thinking the regular water on timer wasn't enough since they are so small) Now this is what the ones in the coolers look like I mean the only difference is the coolers are up against the house, so more shade. But shit we haven't even hit 90 degrees yet, and I have always heard tomatoes and peppers like full sun
Peppers will do fine partial sun. Tomatoes may grow like crazy but might not fruit if they aren't getting full sun. How many hours of light? I think tomatoes are gonna need 6 hours of full sun to produce. On another note, the plants will appreciate the shade when the hot months arrive. I prefer container planting, it can just get expensive with the soil, containers and extra watering. The plants always seem to do better when you can control exactly what the planting medium is, and hot peppers do so much better in containers I'll never plant them in the ground again.
I've been picking lettuce and spinach for the past month and I'm now getting to the point I can't keep up - good problem. I've got at least five pounds bagged in the fridge and picked a ton more this evening. The wife and I eat two big salads a day with meals.
I've got one five foot row of spinach that probably has twelve plants, and three eight foot rows of leaf lettuce and this red/green salad mix that each have 20 plants or so. Didn't thin em out as well so they're crowded, but it hasn't hurt output. Photos about a month old.
Don't know if this question has been asked before, but I have ants in my raised bed which has tomatoes and peppers. How do I get rid of these buggers? Tried some organic ant control with garlic and ginger in it and they are still there. Any tips would be appreciated.

Checked on my hives today. The queen for the big hive that was on the hive scale was starting to go bad, laying all drone brood, so I got a new queen to put in there. I took the old queen and put her in a smaller hive in case I need her. The other hives all had queens that were laying well. I've got about 4 supers that can be extracted, or about 10 gallons.
Checked on one of the observation hives we put in a local school back in mid-April. The bees have pretty much filled the frames up and may be in swarm mode soon, if not now. Will probably end up taking some frames out to give them room early next week. They were starting to work on a queen cell, which might indicate they're thinking of swarming. Solid honey, probably about a little over 1/2 a gallon on this frame. This is where they built comb out on the glass, filled it with honey, and capped it over.
Planted the second half of my cantaloupe, watermelon, and zucchini, as well as snap peas, bush beans, runner beans, and okra this weekend. I've got black plastic down between the rows and the first three are planted through the plastic to cut down on the weeds and grass that have taken over the last several years. Also checked on one of my hives where the bees were packing the entrance to make sure they weren't overcrowded. They weren't thankfully, so they're looking good.
not to be a dick, but I am starting to think billdozer might need to start his own thread about bees and beekeepng
I would like to see pics of said goats. -Asshole- how are your bees, and flow hive coming along? I'm tempted to get my own setup if we get a new house with a big lot.
Garden is now completely planted. Jalapenos - 2 Green Bell - 2 Red Bell - 1 Habanero - 1 Cayenne - 1 Hot Banana - 1 Cherry tomatoes - 2 Better boy tomatoes - 3 Beefsteak tomatoes - 2 Roma - 1 Yellow Squash - 3 Zuchini - 3 Cucumber - 3 Eggplant - 1 And a cunty herb garden for Mrs. BIGASSTITTIES I do have little, but some additional room. Any suggestions to round this shit out?
Taken a few days ago, pretty entertaining just sitting down there and watching all the stuff they can get into.
We mainly use them for milk, but they also help keep brush down and you can sell the kids for a decent price. Ended up with 4 males so only looking at $400-600.
The goat I posted above got sick yesterday and died, no clue what happened. Went down to the barn and she was really sick, a few hours later she passed away. :(
My zucchini's getting close to blooming, the cantaloupe and watermelon are starting to run, and the snap peas, beans, and okra are starting to come up. So far the black plastic is working well.
I cut way back this year and am still going to add a few things this week, but my summer garden is underway. I need to add some fertilizer to get my okra going, but for the most part, everything is doing well.
I finally had a weather window to finish planting my garden this weekend. Here's what I have (all are 20' rows): Planted 3 weeks ago: 6 Buttercup squash 1/2 row sugar snap peas 1/2 row radishes 3 rows Cantare beans 2 rows carrots (1 St. Valery and 1 Kuroda long) Planted this weekend: Tomatoes 7 Super Beefsteak 1 Paul Robeson 2 True Black Brandywine 6 Tappy's Heritage 10 Omar's Lebanese 1 White Currant Cherry 3 rows of Detroit Dark Red beets 2 rows of Landreth Stringless beans 15 Kennebec White potatoes 9 Emerald Giant peppers 5 Jalapenos 1 Etiuda pepper (orange) 1 Ozark Giant pepper (red)
My tomatoes are just taking over the eggplant and okra. I have started trimming them back but it's of no use. Think I will make a 4x4 box just for tomatoes next year.
Is it to late to start some hot peppers and tomatoes in containers? I have been out of town so much I have not had a chance to think about it till now.
