I agree, but if he goes to the BCC and beats Chrome and Shared Belief, he's in the argument because they will retire him right after. The thing about AP is he has had perfect trips and run his own race everytime out EXCEPT his maiden where he got caught in a pack and just gave up. We'll see, but was good for the sport even though historically, I would put him in the bottom third of triple crown winners.
Just got home. Sunburnt and tired but fuck was that awesome. Going to be a horse racing fan for life now.
One of the best days I ever had was at Santa Anita about 10 years ago with a bunch friends from LA. We rented a motorhome and drove out from Manhattan Beach, spending all day Saturday, tailgating at the track fro the afternoon runs. Day at the track is a great time, even if it isn't a real sport, like hot carl says.
Do you think he will even go to the Classic? I hope so, it would be great for the sport to see the Triple Crown Winner compete in the Classic. I don't blame the Zayats if they prefer the $100,000/ moneyshot option, though.
They will race him out through the year I think. Even if he finished 5th in the BCC, first triple crown winner since the Bee Gee's were at the top of the charts, they will send thousands to line their mares up regardless, but of he wins the BCC, they will send tens of thousands.
I am starting to get the 3 year old crop harness in Indiana figured out. One leg through the stakes, I will update picks here as we get into the fall. Usually by the final there is over 200k in the tri and super pots so hang tight.
I just got into it this year and despite being broke there is not a more exciting way to spend a day than sitting at home watching TVG on a Wednesday and betting Los Alamitos. Shit can completely turn a boring-ass day into an incredible day. Don't get me started on a weekend day of races
My wife and I, when we have a week where we are saving money, will go buy a case of beer and put $40 in expressbet and just pick numbers and bet super straights at one track on a random Saturday and listen to music in between races and it's the best. Always lose, but a good chance to hang. And mt and I have been following the Derby horses since October of 14 and to be able to handicap it to where we hit the 7 of the top 9 in the derby, Preakness was a wash because of the rain and then hit the Belmont, makes it awesome. I am soooooo excited about the Breeders Cup, should be the best field in years and likely that more than half the field retires to stud right after.
I love getting PP's from twinspires after placing .10 bets and then going to my TVG account to actually gamble. Attempting to make sense of PP's is how I have my fun. I rarely bet that much money but like you said, simply having any amount can turn any day into a blast. I'm borderline addicted to this shit, especially after a day of work with no other sports on tv.
My family (and now I have a 20% stake in two horses in Indiana) always have pacers going. It's totally different when you have a little bit of ownership, vet bills are insane, but when you actually have a piece of the horse on the track, totally different level. Everyone should own a piece of a racehorse in their lives. But yeah, just betting randoms on a Saturday is so much better than just shooting the shit and drinking beers.
My dad and I own a few horses and are partners in others. When you say Vet bills are insane that's a understatement. Can break you very quick it that horse ain't finishing in the money.
It was $18 on a $0.50 bet. I won like $10. No big deal. But fuck it. I watched history. Something never seen in my lifetime. Stuff like that brings me a lot of joy.
i would imagine, and i could be very wrong, that they are already insured for a ridiculous amount. Cza will know more about it, but it's what we do with our best show livestock, granted the chance of injury is less. the absurd stud fees will still be there come February.
No decision has been made on where American Pharoah will make his next start, but his connections said the Oct. 31 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) at Keeneland would be the final start of his career with three potential races between the Triple Crown and then.
I think there is a strong possibility that the Pacific Classic is one of the starts. Zayat was very outspoken against Del Mar for putting in the synthetic track, but now that they are back to dirt, he'll run more horses there.
It's about damn time he came through for me. Dale Romans has beat me too many times before in spots like this, I won't let him do it anymore. By the way, I'm almost certain that Shared Belief is done for the year, so we won't see Shared Belief and American Pharoah race against each other.
Baffert tells TIME he got $200k to let the Burger King guy stand by him. He’ll give it to charity http://time.com/3912017/triple-crown-bob-baffert-trainer-american-pharoah/… Baffert is a rich MoFo
It's a long shot, but Canterbury Park is trying to get American Pharoah to run in the Mystic Lake Derby (the track's most highly regarded race) in late August by upping the purse from $200,000 to $2 million if he were to run (they'd also change the race from a mile on the turf to 1 1/8 on dirt). http://www.startribune.com/canterbury-hopes-to-draw-triple-crown-winner-american-pharoah/306783671/ As a Minnesotan, I'd love this. As a racing fan, I'd rather see him either in the Travers or taking on older horses in the Pacific Classic- both of which are within a week of the Canterbury race.
and I bet Hoosier on Wed-Sat, since this thread is barely being used, going to put picks in here the rest of the summer until last race in Oct. Have most of them figured out, the 2 year olds start this month so those are just pick numbers, but 3 year old crop, I think I got it.
Bad start, came home fastest so good to look into next week. Anyhow, the sire stakes start next Friday so will rundown those. I *might* have a horse racing at Arlington in Chicago next week, she's been out for a year with random injuries, but finished 3rd to the world champion fillies at 2 with a 97 beyer mark. I will make sure and clue you in if she does go next week, should be 7-1 or higher and if she's fit, will win for fun. Consistently breezing in the top 10% with the boys.
Looks like California Chrome is finally coming back to the US. He's tentatively being pointed for the Arlington Million. It's just a really slow time of the year for horse racing (although the Belmont races on the 4th of July should be interesting). Once Saratoga gets going, the thread should start picking back up.
We have a stake in Tulira's Star who should be out there next Friday if the race fills. Hopefully, is good enough to hit the million undercard because I heard the same thing as mtsucalico85 with California Chrome being pointed towards there as he didn't adjust to Ascot at all.
Thought this would be worth posting- DRF has a podcast that they do twice a week with three of their handicappers, and there are some good discussions on both the big stakes races of the week as well as general handicapping information in all of their episodes. But in particular, I think the conversation from this past Wednesday between 21:30-29:15 is well worth a listen to, especially if you are someone looking to get more involved in betting and how to make bets to give you the best chance to make money in the long run.
Hoosier Park bets for tonight (Race 11-Race 13) 3 year old sire stakes eliminations Spoiler Race 11 8:35 eastern time We drew 5 ou5 of 10 here, have to finish top 3 to make the $75,000 final next week. Easily the strongest of the group, but the top 3 here are set with (3) sandysgoldenhour, (4) Feetonthedashboard and (5) Rock the Look. The real battle on this one is for 4th, where it will be (2) Pacific Pancake, (10) Image of Felicia or (6) Best of Jenna. It's a pretty safe trifecta bet though. Win Contenders: 3, 4, 5 Exotic Contenders: 2,6,10 Race 12 8:55 eastern time 4 Nora Rockwell is the class of this field, went head to head with (7) Mystical Angel last week and don't see that changing. There are a couple of horses switching over from half mile tracks so never sure what to expect there, but top two are pretty set. Win Contenders: 4,7 Exotic Contenders: 1,9,5 Race 13 9:15 eastern time Easily the softest group of the 3, (3) Rockin Good is last year's 2 year old filly champion in all of Indiana, but I think she has looked lame this year. Got a late start which is never a good thing and struggled to come home in a 30.00 second last quarter last week. Should be the favorite based on name, but going to bet against her here. Going with (5) Velocity Lana and (4) Blues Queen as win contenders. Win Contenders: 5,4 Exotic Contenders: 2,8,10
We did get in the 4th race on Saturday, 3:41 central post time. Was a late draw, so not sure on the competition, but will be her first time back on the track since August of last year so not sure if she's ready to go yet. Easily has the best beyer out of this group, so might be worth throwing a few dollars at, but we'll see. #4 Tulira's Star - 4th race.
Track downgraded to sloppy. I think most of everything will still hold, but they are having little monsoons over and over so bet with care if you are going with me on these. About an hour from post in race 11.
So far so good, Race finished 4,5,3,2 .... Prediction from earlier below. We drew 5 out of 10 here, have to finish top 3 to make the $75,000 final next week. Win Contenders: 3, 4, 5 Exotic Contenders: 2,6,10
Had a 45-1 shot sneak into 3rd, finished 4,7,3,5, but had the first 2 in race 12. 4 Nora Rockwell is the class of this field, went head to head with (7) Mystical Angel last week and don't see that changing. There are a couple of horses switching over from half mile tracks so never sure what to expect there, but top two are pretty set. Win Contenders: 4,7 Exotic Contenders: 1,9,5
Last race finished 4-10-8-5 and because I drank too many beers, had a 4/5/8 tri and a 5,8,10 $2 box on both instead of just fucking combining them, lost $1400. Rockin Good finished 5th and is lame or sick, god damn it. Had it. Oh well, bet with me next time fuckers. I hate myself ... Easily the softest group of the 3, (3) Rockin Good is last year's 2 year old filly champion in all of Indiana, but I think she has looked lame this year. Got a late start which is never a good thing and struggled to come home in a 30.00 second last quarter last week. Should be the favorite based on name, but going to bet against her here. Sign up for an account on xpressbet or twinspires, they have live feeds to every track. Works a lot better for watching even if you aren't into betting as the live streams from the track are usually not as reliable and most just redirect to twinspires anyway. After that, just find Arlington on the track list, I think they kick off at 2:00 E today.
turns out i have hrtv so i was able to watch on my tv. damn horse came out strong. tell her to not fade down the stretch next time. thanks.
haha, I'll relay the message. Didn't want to do in 22 and 23 coming out, the favorite pushed us early and she ran out of gas. She's got some speed though.
