Have any of you gentlemen had Taqeuria la Barba (taco truck behind catalina coffee near Liberty Station on Washington) If you haven't you are missing out on the best b-tacs in Htown IMO. Their smoked pork is better than a lot of barbeque restaurants in town and their salsa verde is amazing
Any cool lunch spots I should take my family in the city tomorrow? No mexican cause that's what we're having for dinner. Urban eats looks cool
Urban eats is pretty good. B&b butchers has a good lunch menu Lankfords grocery Killens burgers Treebeards
B&B Butchers has an incredible lunch. Tons of variety and one of the best hamburgers I've had in houston
Been to burger once and it was very good. Haven't been to STQ but my friend teases me with food pr0n from there atleast once a month and it looks pretty phenomenal
Found out yesterday that I am moving from Illinois to the Houston area in early November. I will be working in Deer Park. Recently married with no kids and she is a teacher. We would like to buy a house for the first time. Any recommendations on areas for us to start researching? Neither of us have been before and work is going to send us down for a weekend in early Oct to check out the area. Edit: I actually had a meeting in Pasadena once then drove straight to the airport. Was told to avoid that area. Appreciate the help and I'll start reading through this thread now as I'm sure plenty of my questions have already been covered.
If you're willing to drive a bit and want that city life, most transplants start in mid/downtown while they get a feel for the place. If you wanna be close to work, clear lake/Webster (where NASA is) is close and would offer many amenities most desire. If I were you I'd look at LaPorte/SeaBrook area. Waterfront and accessible to deer park, plus some great value for what you're getting.
I'd prefer to live closer to downtown just to have access to the food, shows, sporting events etc. but I know she wont. I have about a 40min commute to work right now so something similar wouldn't bother me especially if the suburbs here are like Illinois and have all the amenities you'd need. Clear lake was one of the first places I looked into. Also, Pearland and Sugar Land which may be a little far from work. I'll definitely check out the waterfront areas. Thanks.
Pearland is good if you're ready for a family and don't like coming out Commute would prob suck but come live in sugarland and we will be friends
Sugar land is a long way from your office and I'm just not a huge pearland fan in general. Friendswood is a nice suburban community near DP.
As the resident Eado shill, I'm happy to report that my lovely neighborhood offers great access to downtown
Pasadena sucks, deer park sucks, you don't want to live over there. Like others said if you're trying to be close to work your best bets are burbs like clear lake, league city, friendswood, Kemah. If y'all like doing stuff y'all should look at heights/eado/montrose. My parents live on the west side of town (city centre area) and it takes my pops about an hour to commute to Pasadena for work. If your wife ends up getting a gig with sbisd you might want to consider the north side of i10 between gessner and silber. Used to be the barrio (crime is not an issue) but people like you are moving in and there are plenty of new builds as well.
Friendswood or East Pearland is not too terrible a commute, close enough to everything you want and not downtown like your wife wants. Personally, I like living in the Stafford/Sugar Land area better but the commute is a little much and would probably be an hour going into work and more coming back most days depending on when you go in. Pasadena isn't as sketchy as everyone makes it out to be but you don't want to live there.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will definitely be useful. Hopefully I can get down there in the next few weeks to get a feel for the area.
Just moved out of the Clearlake area a few months ago. It's okay, not as much to do, but a big ass mall, and pretty quiet and safe. Carlos' Beer Garden is a great hole-in-wall Ice House, and Randy's Smokehouse is one of the most slept on bbq joints in the area. Having said all that, I would think Sugarland might be more your style. It's a lot closer to Chinatown, Montrose, and midtown.
have no trust in any authority to make the correct decisions here. at the local level, all you have is a history of officials who promote expansion with no regard for environmental effects. $$$$ > flooded residents. at the state level, you have a republican majority who is chomping at the bit to lay waste to the officials described above. political win > flooded residents. where are the fucking adults going to come from here?
Just realized the Portugal. The Man show is the same day as the girls bday Anyone want to buy one ticket for face value?
Sturgill Simpson concert in Sugar Land was moved to Saturday Oct. 13th, which is the Saturday of Texas/OU, so I'll be in Dallas. I've got 4 seats which I think are pretty good seats. PM me if interested; just looking to get my money back.
Day For Night presale started today. $165 plus like $25 in taxes/fees. Lineup supposedly will be released end of next week
