Alright guys, I was in this thread a while back. Gonna be heading to Houston in a couple weeks for work. Finally figured out where we'll be staying and it looks like it'll be pretty close to downtown. Good food suggestions nearby?
You're in the galleria area. Not really that close to downtown but not super far. What are you looking for specifically? Nice dinner? Lunch spots?
I suppose both since we will be working the majority of the time we're there. Definitely always looking for something unique. I know we'll be going out to dinner every night after work.
Kenny & Ziggy's is an awesome deli lunch spot. Place is a very legit kosher deli. If you're in a rush then nielsen's is close to you and its awesome, great mayo spread.
From where you will be staying the bolded ones are probably the closest to you and not far from you at all, but can't go wrong anywhere: Also in the Galleria area, heard nothing but good things about Phillippe http://www.philippehouston.com/ I also like Del Frisco's in the Galleria for steaks.
second JY on kenny and ziggy's for lunch. phillipe is excellent for supper. both are very close to you in galleria.
Sticking in the galleria, Piatto is a good Italian place. There are 20 good steakhouses right there if you want that. If you want to venture a bit further, go to El Patio like JY said.
Have y'all had Fadi's mediterranean? Had it for the first time a couple weeks ago and it is damn good. Shish kabobs and fried mash potato balls....
Not a huge fan of indian but place is good. So is The Queen Vic for more pub style Indian/English food
For lunch, Jenni's noodle house is good Americanized Vietnamese. Pappas Burger uses ground up steaks from their steakhouse next door. BB's has damn good cajun food. Do yourself a solid and make sure to eat at Luling City Market and El Tiempo. For upscale dinner, RDG Bar Annie is solid, I had the rabbit and it was fire.
That's a good point, you don't really need to like Indian to like that place. White people serving me asian food?
This is actually an excellent guide to some of the new places that have opened up of late. Which is surprising since it's a city of Houston site. http://www.visithoustontexas.com/travel-tools/new-and-notable/
Another good list with a little bit of everything. http://www.stradleylaw.com/my-list-of-top-houston-restaurants/
I am actually referring to the place of business on richmond. Although it's not the actual City Market in Luling, I still think it is some good bbq.
I'll write up a thing for you in the next day or two JY and TK are pretty good at being houstonians too
cajun: calliopes, ragin cajun on richmond, bayou city on richmond, danton's seafood on montrose (has good lunch specials but is a sit down spot). brennans is fine dining but is also cajun/creole. brennans also has a badass happy hour on the weekends until 7, great place to go get a good drink and have an appetizer. bbq: gatlin's on 19th vietnamese: pho saigon on milam for pho. there are also these vietnamese sandwiches called banh mi that are charbroiled pork on a french roll with vegetables for about $3 from a place called les givrals. there is one downtown, one on milam, and one on washington in the heights. one of my go-to cheap lunches. mexican: ninfa's on navigation blvd, el tiempo (on richmond, dont be a punk), irmas downtown by the ballpark. irmas has a small fixed menu but focuses on specials so if you go in there just tell them what kind of meat you want and ask for the chefs special. irmas also has the best margaritas in the game. if you want kind of a more unique approach, el gran malo has really good small bites and great drinks. if you just want cheap, greasy, delicious tacos, go to laredo taqueria on washington. fajita tacos are $2 each. steakhouses: pappas bros, del friscos, vic and anthonys, etc
Ayy, siii. Egg rolls are standard, vermicelli salads are solid, haven't had pho, but I would prefer to go somewhere more authentic. Their jalapeños are a good change of pace too.
I've said it once and I'll say it again: if you're listing tex-mex without escalante's, you're doing it wrong.
I like escalantes but it's nowhere near Irma's/El Tiempo.. On a different note, I went to Mi Cocina (DFW chain) in The Woodlands this weekend..ate my food and then was like that was mediocre..silly DFW don't try to make Houston mexican food, it's stupid just don't even try
Yeah mi Cocina isn't even good Dallas Mexican food. I'm interested to try the Gloria's downtown as the one in Dallas is pretty good. But that's more el salvadoran than Mexican
