Michael Lowry @MichaelRLowry First pass from Hurricane Hunters. 878 mb extrapolated pressure. Flight level winds 220 mph. #Patricia hasn't weakened. This bitch will not give up. 878 is just stupid.
Should be fine as far as the high speed wind thing goes. We're right in the middle of the city which is a ways from the coast. To be fair she did park it in a flood zone because she is a woman.
Sam Lillo @splillo 3m3 minutes ago Latest dropsonde into the eye of #Patricia ... 32.2C at 710mb. Holy....
wow, hurricane force winds are really tight around the eye. basically, miss the eye and you're in pretty good shape.
I feel like this is something that only someone really into weather/meteorology would care about, but it being that warm at 710mb might be even crazier than the winds and/or pressure with this storm.
I wouldn't imagine you guys having any winds of note, being that the storm has to travel a thousand miles over land before it gets to you, however, I'm no meteorologist, and there's plenty of people her that could answer that better than I. dem rains doe...
Follow Ryan Maue@RyanMaue Recall suggestion for addition of Category 6 to Saffir Simpson scale? If extrapolated further, Hurricane #Patricia would be Category 7.
those dudes must need extra room in the cabin for their giant balls. I cold sweat / white-knuckle when I'm flying somewhere and the pilot comes on and he's like "it's going to get a little bumpy for a couple of minutes here"....
Do they use turbo prop planes for a specific reason? I'm assuming theyre more reliable than a jet engine in this type of weather, but I'm looking for a more scientific reason, ie why they are more reliable.
That's probably has more to do with the "where the fuck did that thing come from????" nature of this hurricane than anything else. Oh, and Mexico.
This storm is fucking crazy. What do the PV resorts do with all the guests since they've only really known how bad it's going to be over the last day?
Yeah, it's really fucking scary with how quickly this escalated. We could have a lot of American casualties.
I think the general rule of thumb is "don't go to western Mexico in September or October" so hopefully the resorts are largely empty. Also they were talking about 75 mph winds in PV, not the brunt of the storm.
Not sure if already mentioned but TWC brought up a key point not many are hitting on that with warmer deeper ocean waters, this storm was sucking it all up and fueled it in a way whereas cooler deeper water would have slowed it down
