Latest loop looks like it's starting to pick up some defined circulation and a bit of outflow as well. Would be surprised if the hunters come back and it isn't at least a depression. Also hoping for no LA impact, they can't afford more rain/floods.
I'd use www.tropicaltidbits.com as a resource over that page. That page hurts my eyes; he has a breakdown of all the different acronyms: http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/data/nhc_model_list.txt ECMWF/EC = European global model GFS = Global Forecast System, US global model CMC = Canadian global model UKMET = UK's global model Plus a handful of higher resolution, mesoscale models...
Hasn't happened in a realllllly long time. A) Good thing we don't open at home B) A direct hit during the first week of classes for FSU is not exactly the thing I want. Students are already bad enough during that week, it would lead to so many hassles for me in my life. I would appreciate the tropical system taking my feelings into account as it chooses its path. I vote for going up the east coast.
Latest satellite loops had that big plume of convection over the DR die down but looks like it is flaring back up along the southern coast now. It looks really well organized right now, one big ball of convection heading due west over the northern coast of Hispaniola, but the mountains will take a chunk out of her if it stays on its course I would imagine.
Still a pretty big mess but all the models were in pretty good agreement that this was expected. Just have to see what it can do once it gets over the Bahamas and into more favorable conditions. The Euro is still having a hard time pegging how strong the ridge is going to be which is going to play the biggest impact on the storms path. Just going to have to wait it out until it can pull away from Hispaniola.
1 minute satellite imagery centered over 99L began as of 10 minutes ago; Sector 1: http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/ramsdis/online/goes-west_goes-east.asp
A whole bunch can change but the current models suggest a Florida panhandle landfall around Wednesdayish and then moving up the east coast at a fairly good pace. You should be good though for Sept. 3rd in south florida unless something very unexpected happens.
Haven't been extensively following hurricanes for too long but is this one of the most discussed systems without actually being named?
Looks like 99L is starting to get together as it passes through the Florida straits and into the gulf. No real idea where it's going
As long as it's a TS or weak Cat 1, I'd be fine with a South Mississippi landfall. Probably get out of classes for a couple days.
We're supposed to be flying into Ft Myers Beach on Wed. and staying through the weekend. Should I cancel?
its ok in that it is a beach with sand and water. If I was choosing a beach vacation location, it would be way down on the list.
Pretty much. I used to live there and I currently live just north of it. The beach is mediocre on a good day (by Gulf standards). It's going to rain and be a mess. It will probably still be hot out. I'm sure it won't be crowded. Your call. If you're looking for a Gulf Coast vacation then you need to look elsewhere. I'd personally go Sarasota, Manatee, or Pinellas Counties.
https://www.change.org/p/atrocity-change-tropical-storm-hermine-to-tropical-storm-harambe national hurricane center messed up not naming it tropical storm harambe Spoiler
Flying into fort myers beach is impressive since there is no airport on the island. Anyways, fort myers beach is mediocre and there are 5 beaches in the county alone that are better, much less to the north and south.
You'll probably still have fun, there's plenty of restaurants, bars, cocktails, activities and trashy girls to make up for how mediocre the beach is.
So Hermine looks to finally be building well. Track has been trending more west bringing lots of rain up the east coast.
School is cancelled here in Tallahassee (public schools and community colleges) for the next 2 days. FSU still hasn't announced anything.
Lots of flooding along the west coast from Tampa to Fort Myers. But, still surprised a bunch of school districts cancelled classes near Tampa for tomorrow.
This thing is going to be a massive rain maker. North Carolina could be getting 8 inches plus in a lot of locations. Also might stall once it gets to the north east and cause massive problems up that way as well.
It should be well clear of most everything by Friday evening. Fields will probably be in rough shape in GA and SC, though. All the games in Florida are further down state... shouldn't be any issues. Maybe in Gainesville? But they play Saturday night and it should have plenty of time to dry before then.
my buddy has a place near alligator point. water already coming inside the house. still 6+ hours to landfall this gonna be bad yall
I'm going to try and be as accurate as possible with this.....I was pinned down for about 20 seconds. Eternity. I'm assuming a second wave came. In about 6 ft of water nonetheless.
