You mean how everybody on this board is a master of the universe but in reality the avg household income is just $51K?

This is something I've never really understood. Does HHI include the retired living off of investment savings? Has anyone seen figures for households between 18-65? With an aging population, one would think HHI growth would have a negative bias as the elderly shift to relying on investment income and become a larger portion of the economy.

As I understand it, it includes everybody over the age of 15 that is earning income of any kind. Is it your thought that this number is artificially high or artificially low?

I'm with you though in that I disagree with how they classify most statistics, especially the unemployment rate.

I used SoFi and cut from 6.8 to 3.8 with decent but not great credit. Really no reason not to do it unless you're using IBR or plan to have them forgiven. Think SoFi even has its own IBR in some form but I can't honestly remember.

If you use my link we both get $100.:beerchug:

I seldom see mention of stocks outside USA. HK Hang Seng market has been up, along with Shanghai and Shenzhen markets on the mainland. Everything I hear is that Beijing will continue to make it easier for mainland investors to officially invest in HK market. Even though mainland companies' fundamentals aren't great, the lack of investing opportunities means those options available(mainland stocks and properties) to mainland investors are unlikely to go down anytime soon. If you are interested, 388 HKEX, might be a good stock to take a look at.

I can't see it because I'm at work but supposedly Cramer is talking about buyouts so the damn thing is all over the map this AM.

Anyone set up there 401k through John Hancock with any suggestions on what to load your portfolio with.

I work for a small company and only match 1.25% and then .10 for every dollar. Obviously put what they match in for the free money but it seems like most of my options are taxed pretty good my options seem pretty shitty.

Also, I've got about 5k in QQQ power shares and HACAX harbor Capital... Both mutual funds but they overlap a little more than what I like thinking of selling my shares in one and looking elsewhere to diversify a little more.

HACAX has a higher tax on it but right now I'm having a hard time justifying selling when it's trading really well right now. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

what do you mean by "higher tax?" they're both taxed the same way (which is zilch, cause they're in a tax deferred 401k) ...

quick glance a .66% expense ratio is not too crazy for an actively managed fund. out performing it's index and the S&P pretty handily, i'd say hold on to that one and move the QQQ shares in to int'l or mid/small cap, both if you can ...

Joe Louis my bad HACAX and QQQ are in my regular portfolio not 401k and by higher taxes I meant more so tax efficient.

Basically do you think HACAX has the potential to outperform QQQ enough to compensate for the taxes I would have to pay on the mutual fund if I held onto it? Also riGht now My Roth is set up in an intl mutual fun (noiax)

Only big hitters that were passed on to me is coke p&g and Publix... Also going to hold onto Alcoa and see what it does. I've got a decent chunk of change stacked up and I'm going to part ways with one of those and invest in a couple of things I can sit on for a while here shortly.

My favorite stock that I have been watching, ORIG, is off 10% today on the announcement that they are offering common stock diluting the market 28 million additional shares at $7 each. CEO is going to buy up 1.5 million of those.

Still with a current float of 132 million, adding 28 million is a dilution of ~20%. Stock only dropped 10% this am. Share price should drop another 10% I hope. I'd like to see this thing float down to 6 as the bad news weighs it down. They've got an annual dividend of a whopping 10% and here they are flooding the market with more shares. Hopefully this bad news festers for a little while.

I'm really hoping for an even more depressed share price but I don't know how much more I can hope to sap out of it with a P/E of 3.1.

Payrolls continue to gain steam, but wage growth isn't going anywhere due to the added jobs being teachers, waiters, temps, clerks, etc.

This is a very generalized statement, and it certainly doesn't apply to everyone or every job, but the "good ol days" of starting at one company and consistently moving up the ladder and receiving routine raises are mostly gone. In most cases, you need to move around a bit early in your career to get large pay increases.

I'm a corporate lawyer at a large law firm who eventually plans on going in house. Used to be you'd come in, do a couple years at a firm, then go in house after 3 years or so.

I've been advised by people who have gone in house that leaving the firm to work your way up at a company simply doesn't happen anymore, and that you're better off staying at a firm longer to accept a higher ranking (and paying) position later. Makes no sense to me, as you'd think a company would like to promote someone from within who knows their business and their work (and in house work is substantially different from firm work), but they'd rather hire someone with more firm experience. Oh well.

Those kind or articles make me want to roundhouse kick people in the temple.

"The education system had prevented me from pursuing this life because I had the misfortune of coming from modest origins."

....or maybe your decision to go to a PRIVATE lib arts school then start a career as a writer is what caused the problem????

Great quote on Fool the other week about college saying how ironic it is that people agree it's dumb to go finance a Porsche when they can really only afford a used Ford Escort, yet nobody thinks twice about going to $40K+ per year private schools when they can really only afford a 2 year JUCO or the state school.

Any ideas on what to do with 3D systems? I'm currently holding it in an IRA converted from an old 401K, and it has just gotten hammered since I bought. Down 56% give or take. I had reasons when I bought it, and some of those are still valid, but now I'm just wondering if it's better to cut and run and put the funds elsewhere. Thoughts?

Can anybody find total box office records by year? I'm on mobile and can't find it. I'm looking for "in X year, the overall worldwide/domestics ticket sales for all movies was Y".

Considering the pace we are currently on and with the final Hunger games, Star Wars and 2 Pixar films due out, I'd be shocked if we didn't at least approach some overall box office sales records. If the theater chains don't get a slight boost from all this then I'll concede I have no clue whatsoever how the markets work.

My guess is that you are looking at yesterday's performance and comparing it to today's market. Mutual funds don't have intraday prices. The NAV (Net Asset Value) or price isn't known until the close of the market.
