So last Thursday was pretty crazy for me. We had a tornado warning and the weatherman said a possible tornado was heading my way and would be there in 8 minutes. The storm veered east, I'm guessing because of the mountain in its path. Pooped in my pants a little bit
I see they let the severe tstorm watch to the east of the current tornado watch expire, are they not expecting any more development tonight?
NWS Norman @NWSNorman 827pm - 3 inch diameter hail and 75 mph winds 3 miles east of Cheyenne, OK! Get away from windows if you're in the path! #okwx
Interesting storm W/NW of Wichita. Sounds like they are dancing. @NWSWichita: 847pm: Reports of intermittent tornadoes across NW Sedgwick county. Take shelter immediately!
I thought this thread was gone. Guess i didn't look hard enough Tomorrow is going to be really interesting. The overnight convection will determine a lot. Areas that see convection and clouds clear out by 11am or so could see some discrete supercells. Will be a very crazy day. I'll probably be in a NWS office helping out tomorrow; fun stuff. Again, another plug for the OU/SPC tornado forecasting seminar given by Rich Thompson of the SPC: http://live.som.ou.edu/ Excellent stuff
Some crazy ass hail pics on my Twitter feed today, and this adorable little tornado in Protection, KS.
Had the sirens going off in Ann Arbor today, but nothing touched down. Just some rotation west of town.
The Weather Channel @weatherchannel 10m10 minutes ago Before/after RT @ChrisJacksonSC: Fairdale, Illinois before and after today's tragic tornado.
CNN Breaking News @cnnbrk 31m31 minutes ago Tornado that killed 2 in Fairdale, Illinois, a preliminary EF-4 with winds of 166-200 mph. http://cnn.it/1OhMLD2
Pretty much. We basically go to the damage and follow the path, making notes of damage indicators that are used to determine the EF number. A lot of chatting with people who just lost everything. I was shocked at how upbeat people were...the neighbors, that still had houses, were making food and bringing it to everyone. Amazing how quickly people rose to the occasion to help others in the midst of such terrible damage. NWS Chicago's page on the event, will probably update quite a bit in the next week or so: http://www.weather.gov/lot/15apr09
Enhanced Risk of Severe Weather for Texas Panhandle, parts of Oklahoma and Kansas The Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk of severe weather for parts of the Texas Panhandle and adjacent areas of Oklahoma and Kansas. This means that a couple of tornadoes, along with damaging winds and large hail, are likely this afternoon.
east of amarillo through the pampa area. wtx drives through there all the time from what i gather about his feels
Texas Panhandle/SW KS Also an area of interest in central Texas too. Good rotation on the storm NE of Amarillo
Hmm... That's a nice little mash-up of "papa" and "grampa" Somebody should take on that name when they have grandchildren.
