When I buy this game during the next Steam Sale (probably Spring) I'm going to need one of you homos to run through it with me. Heard the game is almost impossible to beat on Single Player

 

Yeah I have not had much luck by myself, and everyone I play with online jacks every drop so that's not much fun either.

 

Do any of you all play any games with a controller? I hear games like Assassins Creed are almost impossible to play with a mouse and keyboard. Thinking about picking up a wired xbox controller.

 

I would have to play something like AC or Arkham City with a controller.

 

Just bought Arkham City too, looking like a controller is going to be necessary.

 

Damn, I just sold my Xbox and wireless controller. I need to find a cheap ass wired one. I can't believe they are still going for around $45

 

I got a wired one, I play Skyrim and Far Cry 3 and it's great. I have AC2 and the controller layout is fucking stupid, but I kind of got used to it.

 

What is Dota like? I have always heard so much about it but I really have no idea what kind of game it is.

 

I have heard of it but no idea what it is. I see there is a big thread for it on here.

 

I was just reading about it on Steam. Sounds interesting. I would be interested in trying it out if nobody else wants the invite.

Dota (and other Multiplayer Online Battle Arena / Action RTS) is a 5v5 online game where you join with your four teammates to battle the other team of 5 people. Each person picks a hero (out of a large pool of ~100) and each hero has different abilities -- 3 regular abilities and one ultimate -- and fulfills different roles within the team. You win the game by attacking and destroying the other teams base. Each teams have "minions" that spawn regularly and travel down "lanes" (look at the map and it will make sense) that the players kill to gain experience and gold to buy items. As the game progresses, everyone's heroes will gain levels and their skills will become more powerful; also, you will be able to buy increasingly powerful items by "farming" gold and killing the other team's heroes.

Dota started as a custom map on Battle.net using Warcraft 3 and its expansion The Frozen Thrones. Other games like Heroes of Newarth and League of Legends have come along recently with their own client to help alleviate some of the issues War3 had and give the games a more modern look. Valve has hired some of the developers of the original Dota mod/map and is developing Dota2 to act as a direct replacement (with better bells and whistles).

There is a huge learning curve and is very intimidating to start out, for all games of this type really. League of Legends is a similar style game but has done a few things to make the game "easier" (IMO) but it is a good way to learn the genre. If you do get into these games just accept this fact: you're going to suck and people will probably rage. If you can deal with that and persevere and learn, you'll do just fine.

Thanks for the info. I have installed it but I haven't tried it out yet. I am sure I am going to get my ass kicked for a while.

 

I would probably search YouTube and watch some videos that cover the basics then play some private lobbies versus bots until you get a slight idea of what is going on.

 

Probably a good idea. Only competitive game I have ever played online are shooters so I am out of my element.

 

Coop vs bots would be good because you play with humans but against bots and records aren't kept. Allows you to ask questions if necessary. Good call.

 

dotafire is trash. Don't listen to the things it says unless you want to be stuck in the trench forever

Any of you guys grab Torchlight 2 for $10 during the sale? Put like 30 minutes in, once I wrap up BL2, going to dive headfirst into Torchlight for a month or so.

 

Probably going to put about 30 more into BL2 and then switch over. I 'try' to only play one game at a time, but definitely down to get going on TL very soon.

 

The problem with dotafire and all the guide websites is ybat dotas meta and balancing changes so often that many of the guides become completely irrelevant mere months after theyre posted. Dota isnt like league where theres only one way to build a hero. Everything is situational and trying to stick to guides is generally a poor strategy for anyone but the newest of players.

 

Thought about it but I just have so much in the backlog already with a ton of new games on the way.

I heard it is much better than Diablo 3.

 

Just from messing with it for a half an hour, it definitely is.

Been playing Borderlands 2.. not bad so far

 

GPU could probably use an upgrade. The rest is good.

 

What do you recommend? NVIDIA only. With the ability to use two monitors.

 

I have the GTX670 and I love it. Just depends on what you are looking to spend.

They recommend the GTX680 for Crysis 3.

 

How much will that run me? And do you know if it is compatible with my motherboard? ASUSTeK P6T.

 

I run two at 1920 x 1080
