I coach soccer, and I am out on the field probably 4 days a week, but I have never stopped to pick a team to root for. I think it's about time I chose a Premier League Team to root for, but I don't want to be a bandwagon fan. Sell me on a team.
Not Wolves. We're doing our damnedest to alienate fans. I'd go with Swansea. Extremely fun team to watch.
OP, the real question is how do you feel about rooting for the same club as Osama Bin Laden and Fidel Castro?
so the only good reason I was given to choose a team so far is that their fans are the Yids? I need more than that. Also, does anyone other than MU, Chelsea and Arsenal ever win it? I need to root for someone that has at least a prayer, or are there other things to focus on?
well i'll go ahead and give you some reasons to support tottenham -a very exciting attack (most of the time) featuring gareth bale, luka modric, rafael van der vaart, and others -brad friedel -good youth players that could see first team minutes in the near future -great old stadium with a good fanbase -daniel levy (club chairman) is very smart and seems to have the club pointed in the right direction but since picking a team based on players alone isn't really a great idea, it should be known that tottenham will be a team that should finish anywhere from 3rd-7th or 8th here on out depending who is bought/sold. not normally in position to win the title, but with a good/lucky year, it could happen. -----------------------------------arsenal hate shield--------------------------------------
What aspects of soccer do you enjoy NY? Because if you enjoy someone that plays by passing and possessing the ball, your best choices would be Arsenal or Swansea. If you want teams that got a chance at success you gotta go Arsenal, Manchesters, Spurs, Liverpool. It all depends, you can't usually just pick someone, there has to be some sort of reason.
i'll go ahead and throw newcastle into the hat. rabid fanbase, successful club with good tradition, awesome manager imo
I think the best way is just watching all the games you can for a couple of weeks. You'll be able to gauge what you enjoy both tactically, and if there are any players that particularly captivate you. Just picking a team might take some of the fun out of actually finding your squad.
My only advice is dont pick a team based on a single player(fuck you Fernando Torres) Sounds like you are only interested in the top clubs so you have already trimmed the list to 5 or 6.
If you don't mind not seeing matches and want people to think you're tough (and unique), go with Millwall.
I don't know if this will be any help, especially now, but this article is how I ended up choosing a team. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/060719 It is dated, but the second page lists six contenders with information on all of them. My brother was a Chelsea fan and I began to follow them, but ended picking a new team because I didn't want to be on the bandwagon of a team that was already at the top. I came down to Newcastle and Man City for the record. My advice pick a team that is good, not great and also won't be in too much danger or being relegated. Current teams that would fit that: Everton Fulham Stoke Newcastle Villa
If you are gonna pick a mid level team go Newcastle. Only thing about them or any other middle of the pack club is that they will have to sell their top players when larger clubs come calling.
pick a club that is good or popular so they will be on FSC nothing worse than picking up a club that you can never see play
I'm absolutely terrified this thread will turn into a shit show. I hope that nobody says anything mean.
