How big, geographically, is Westeros supposed to be? I initially thought it was the size of Europe, but it seems that it may be smaller because of how quickly characters like Littlefinger and Cat Stark travel between camps. (Although I really have no idea how time is scaled in the series)

Also, how many people are in Westeros? What about population per kingdom? What exactly are the seven kingdoms and whom is in charge of each one? I have a pretty decent general knowledge of everything, but I feel like I learn something new every time I catch up on the show thread. Just a quick analysis of the 7 kingdoms with quantitative details would be appreciated. I know some of you bookfags could type this up in 30 seconds so thanks for the insight, gentlemen.

PS-I'm still reading Book 1 but I'm gonna try to read the whole series this summer.

In the show they said Torrhen's Square was less than 40 leagues form Winterfell. 40 leagues=138 miles

Both those places are on the map. Should give you a pretty good idea about how big it is. I can't think for you Snakes.

It's not that big based on how fast people travel. The books cover a very short amount of time.

There are very few estimated distances in the books and you can't really trust how accurate they are. GRRM is kind of a dumbass and has no real perspective when talking about distances/lengths. He made the wall something like 700 feet high and has said he made it too tall because he didn't really know how tall 700 feet high is.

Its definintely not as populated as Europe. The North is huge yet when Robb called his banners he only had about 20,000 fighting men so I'd guess there are about 100k people in the North. Renly had all of the Stormlands men and the Reach and had like 90k so I'm guessing there are about 400k people combined in those areas too. It doesn't seem like the population of Westeros could be more than a few million which would make it more like the size of the UK and the map is pretty clearly a take on Europe with Westeros being the UK and everything across the narrow sea being the mainland

since I first saw the maps that's the size I've compared it to, as well.

Also, I believe in either ASoC or ADwD, he stated that Deepwood Motte was 100 leagues (which I think is about 340 miles) from Winterfell.
