There is also the very real possibility that the TV series is the only ending were ever going to get. Heck, Im not sure we will ever even get WoW. Might as well enjoy what we got along with the rest of the plebes.
So what do y'all think on why he can't seem to finish? Went too big? (Hard to believe with the other massive epics out there). Got rich and quit trying?
His inability to finish the books started waaay before HBO even thought about a show. I think the splitting of Affc and adwd is where he lost it.
Yeah Im just saying its not getting any easier for him. Whatever writing block he was having is being compounded by the pressure at this point
Locking that fat fucker in a room with his source material, a laptop with no internet access an adderall drip and pizza that can only be delivered when he finishes a certain number of pages is the only way I expect the series to ever be finished. But because the last two books were so comparatively bad I started the grieving process years ago. Now the occasional sarcastic remark is all I can summon up. Maybe I have Hater's block?
I really liked 4 and 5. They are remarkably different in tone and don't have a climax but I think it is because they are only meant to set up the massive problems that will kick of book 6(if we get book 6.) The few sample chapters released so far have all been great so I have high hopes for Winds. Or i'm just a sunshine pumper.
Hope your right but suspect the latter. Setup chapters I can accept but setup novels, that's just poor planning.
I personally think he's a Meereenese knot on his hands with Dany and writing in Aegon (just to basically fuck with the readers) made it even harder for him to finish it. Her timeline is so far off course and he's backed her in a corner where she's gotta do a stupid amount of things in a short period of time.
Perhaps but you could say that 1 and 2 were just a set up for the book long length of a climax that is Storm.
I think there is no way to finish without creating massive issues with the ending. The "what if" will always be better than whatever forced ending he comes up with. The show will give us the closure and he will leave it to our imaginations for how the books may have arrived at the same ending.
He's taking his sweet sweet time so if he does finish, the ending definitely will not be forced. It will be different from the show but it won't feel contrived. We shit on him a lot here because he's fat and slow but he's far too good a writer for a forced awkward finish. Though I'm sure he finishes forced and awkward in just about every other aspect of his life.

My initial thought was it's a ton of stuff to pack into one season, especially after the past couple of seasons have been so story driven.
Since no one looks at the book threads I'll ask in here. Rereading ACOK and last night read when Daenerys visited the house of the undying. Right before the vision of the Red Wedding she saw a naked women being fucked by a rat-like dwarf while 3 others were biting her nipples, etc.. Was that a reference to something that happened later or was that just filler?
It was mainly to give the audience something to masturbate to. Spoiler Nah - naked woman is Westeros literally getting fucked by the War of the Five Kings
the fifth had crawled up her ass and was eating its way out. it represents the leaders of westeros destroying the city from within.
Surprised this wasn't posted. Pics from upcoming season http://www.makinggameofthrones.com/production-diary/exclusive-pictures-season-6 Spoiler RIP Myrcella
