Just have to reiterate how fucking good Russell Wilson is, since I'm still a bit depressed over the loss

    • Quarterback Russell Wilson completed 24 of 36 passes for 385 yards and two touchdowns. He also had seven rushing attempts for 60 yards and a touchdown. Wilson set an NFL rookie record for passing yardage in a playoff game. He became the first player in NFL history with at least 385 yards passing and 60 yards rushing in a postseason game. Wilson's performance established him even more firmly as a franchise quarterback and one of the best young players in the NFL.
Bear in mind, he didn't throw an interception in his last 5 road games (2 playoff games, and fuck off, I'm not including the last throw of the game).

Also, having 10 draft picks is about enough to beat your dick raw to.

Edit: so maybe it's 9 because we traded our 7th rounder for KW the no limit soldier. And we don't know what we're getting for Ruud and Tarvaris, either a 4th or 5th for Curry.

Fuck man...was looking at our last 3 drafts:

2010 - Okung, ET, Tate, Chancellor in the 5th
2011 - Moffitt, Wright, Sherman in the 5th, Malcolm Smith in 7th

Also didn't realize Lane was a rookie...and what the fuck happened to Carpenter, completely forgot about him. Is it just injuries, or are we going to have to look into another RT? We can't afford to keep starting that Italian bastard.

Carpenter was out for the year last year with injuries. Season ending knee injuries two years in a row so it's questionable if he will make an impact. Sucks that we've dealt with that with both he and Moffitt.

I'd like to upgrade both Giacomini and McQuistain if Moffitt and Carpenter aren't going to be reliable.

Darrelle Revis is reportedly on the Jets' trade block, and with former Seahawks' VP of Football Administration John Idzik now the man in charge of hearing any offers in New York, it's pretty obvious that Seattle's name would come up as an interested party. According to Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, the Seahawks are one of several teams that are 'highly interested' in Revis' services, though at this point in time it's way to early to early to read too much into that reported interest other than Seattle likes to stir the pot.

The Seahawks have hired Matt Thomas as Vice President of Football Administration to replace John Idzik, who was hired as GM of the Jets last week. "Matt is a well-respected salary cap expert and was recommended by many top-ranking NFL executives," said General Manager John Schneider, on the hire. "I am excited to welcome him to our football family."
According to Adam Caplan, who has a very wide-reaching network of contacts and seems to have a strong grasp on NFL pro personnel departments and football operations league-wide, noted that Thomas spent the last four years as the Browns' negotiator and "for the most part, does solid contracts. Agents speak well of him."
For what it's worth, the Browns were the youngest team in the NFL in 2012 on a snap-count weighted scale (Seattle was 2nd), according to Football Outsiders, so that 'forever young' theme that John Schneider seems to espouse should come naturally for Thomas, and might've been part of what made Thomas attractive to Seattle and visa-versa (h/t Mark Dickenson for pointing that out).
More important though, I'm sure, is Thomas' long history in cap management. Prior to joining the Browns (weirdly enough, via a trade with Miami for Cleveland's cap specialist, Dawn Aponte), Thomas spent 12 seasons with the Dolphins (1998-09), including 2009 as Vice President - General Counsel and Football Administration. Per his team bio, "during his tenure with the [Dolphins] he held numerous football administrative functions, which included assisting with the management of the salary cap, player contract negotiations, football budgeting and acting as a liaison with the NFL Management Council on salary cap compliance and other labor and legal matters. Thomas is a graduate of the University of Denver, University of South Dakota School of Law and the New York University School of Law." His bio reads almost word for word what Idzik's read on the Seahawks' website.
According to the National Football Post's Joel Corry, Thomas' main role with the Dolphins was as a contract negotiator, which can be also said of Idzik, for the most part. I don't know a ton about Thomas, but it's encouraging that they've hired someone with over a decade of experience managing salary caps - losing Idzik hurts from this point of view, but hopefully there won't be a ton of dropoff.

Seahawks hire Travis Jones to coach defensive line

The Seahawks have hired Saints' assistant defensive line coach Travis Jones as their new DL coach, according to Jason La Canfora and others, replacing a recently departed Todd Wash, who was allowed to take a lateral move to go coach in Jacksonville with Gus Bradley. Jones was not on anyone's radar, from what I can tell, but did coach alongside new defensive Seahawks coordinator Dan Quinn when they were both in Miami with the Dolphins. Jones spent three seasons in Miami as an assistant, his first year as assistant defensive line coach and the subsequent two seasons coaching the outside linebackers and defensive ends.
Jones previously had coaching stints at Georgia from 1997-98, Appalachian State from1998-2000, Kansas from 2001-02, Louisiana State from 2003-04, the Miami Dolphins from2005-07, and was most recently with the New Orleans Saints from 2008-2012, including the 2009 Super Bowl Champion team. Jones was Nick Saban's recruiting coordinator and also coached the defensive line for the National Champion LSU Tigers in 2003, so he's had some experience with successful programs, no doubt.
    According to his Saints.com bio:

In 2009, DE Will Smith enjoyed his finest season as he ranked fifth in the NFL with 13 sacks, while the trio of Ellis, Anthony Hargrove and Remi Ayodele provided a solid pass rush on the interior of a line that played an important role on the Super Bowl XLIV champions.
In 2010, Jones helped tutor a line that contributed to the defense finishing in the top ten in the NFL in yards per game (fourth) and points per game (seventh). DT Sedrick Ellis broke out with career-highs in tackles (78) and sacks (6). His takedown total led the team and tied for third among NFL defensive tackles.

You guys have any thoughts on the draft? I know JS doesn't like to trade up but we're loaded with 10 picks and a roster that is relatively full. There's no way 10 picks are making the roster so we should get creative.

I want a bookend DE in the first round since this draft is just stacked with DL.

Trade picks for Percy. Trade back in the draft to recoup lost picks. Shit on everyone in the 3-5 rounds again. BOOM. Win the Super Bowl. Become the biggest cunts on TMB. Mission accomplished.

Percy is by far the best option to complete the offense right now, and maybe a second round TE. Problem is you are going to be paying for it and have to hope he is a team player.

The only trade up options I see are going high (13-14) for if one of the top 3 DTs are still there, or going to 17-18 if Ansah is still there. If we stay with our pick, the best available talent looks to be at LB (Dion Jordan/Khaseem Green) or WR (I would love Allen if he is still there).

    Sherman:

"Bobby Wagner, the no-name out of Utah State, the ‘What are you doing?’ pick. These analysts were sitting there crashing our draft the last two years, and now they have to go back and, ‘Oh oh, well, at the time I thought ….’

“No, you guys are terrible at your jobs and I don’t know how you got them. They sit there and they make all these declarations and they say all these things about these given players when they don’t, they really have no idea how they’re going to play.”

I'm really unhappy that we took Clark, and he'll have to do a lot of good to make me think even average of him. Lockett was a great selection, and someone that fills a need. I wanted us to take Strong, but Lockett's film is dynamite and he can return.

Other picks I don't know/haven't read enough to make a judgement so we'll see.

Lots of people up in arms about Clark. I'll reserve my judgement as far as his on-field ability. This reminds me a lot of the Irvin pick a few years ago that baffled everyone as well, that didn't turn out too terribly for us. I read some stuff that the staff is 100% convinced he did not hit his girlfriend...now whether that's something they have to say in order to prevent some kind of uproar or they truly feel that way, i dunno. His GFs name was "Diamond Hurt", which just sounds like a name of someone who would make some shit like that up.

The police report was really unnerving, and he seemed relatively unremorseful when asked about what happened. Again--he has an opportunity to prove us all wrong but he's starting in a different place than a guy like Lockett.

Oh no doubt. Living in Kansas, I saw Lockett play almost every week. He's a damn good kid, and a hard worker. Obviously quick as fuck too.

Anyone know if we should expect production out of Chris Matthews like in the SB? How's Richardson's recovery coming along?

Pete is, and said that was why they aren't looking for a big receiver like everyone expected. They already have their guy.

I'm by far most excited about Lockett. He is just insanely polished and seems to run routes as good as anyone. When he gets that separation you know Russell will light him up. I fully expect Graham, Baldwin, Matthews, Lockett (and paul richardson?) to be the best set of wide receivers that Russell has had by the end of the year.

Clark is the weird case where nobody is arguing his crazy athletic and play-making ability, the pick can only be liked or disliked based on your feelings on his background. In the end I think he deserves the second chance. Especially when you realize who many other players (and coaches) have the same issues in their past, what's the point in singling him out just because the team used a high pick on him.

Kristjan Sololi is another really awesome pick. His numbers basically say he is the most athletic OL in the league.

Overall I'm pretty hyped about this entire draft (ignoring Clark issues). It just seems to perfectly fill every need, which matches with Pete and JS said about the draft falling into exactly what they wanted. They're all players where you can see why the office targeted them.

Baker is a professional troll, but it's pretty hard to escape from

"We did a thorough investigation and would never draft somebody who hit a woman"

    then

"we didn't speak to anybody who was actually there other than Frank."

They should have just been honest and said they talked to Frank and decided he deserved a second chance. The problem now is that the Seahawks have potentially screwed themselves with this story. I guess they have to take the position that Clark said he didn't hit her. If one of the witnesses comes forward and corroborates the police report, it will confirm that a) Frank is a woman beater, and b) he lied to the FO about it.

People are going to keep pulling the strings of this story, as they should.

Yup. You can't say you did your due diligence if it came out you just spoke with Frank. If you want to go that route then you talk about second chances, redemption, growth, etc. I foresee a healthy amount of backpedaling from JS & PC moving forward.

So has it been explained how he was able to get such a light plea deal? I've read a few things, but nothing that really covered this. It seems like it would take some magical lawyer buttfuckery to get this lowered to a disorderly conduct when there were multiple witnesses corroborating her story.
