I read that he's ineligible for most juco leagues because he declared for the draft. Have no clue if true. Apparently California is one league without scholarships where he could play
Cal's continued hate on the SECT grinds my gears. Do any of y'all like his idea of moving it to fall? I think it's a great event, though I do think he has a point in that the committee doesn't factor results of conference tournaments in as much as they should. He's still butthurt that UK got a 4 seed, which they deserved imo
How much should they factor in the results of a single elimination tournament made up of mostly terrible teams? And the SEC tournament in the fall? Aside from that not making any sense, has he ever heard of college football?
I mean if they're going to play the tournament, shouldn't the games mean something? I think like last year, there will be a lot of teams on the bubble going into that conference tournament and I think head to head matchups between them should be given weight. In the past, almost no "reward" at all were given to those games, or punishment to the losers of those matchups. I'm not sure that's something the conference can really change though except for calling the committee's attention to it, which is maybe what Cal is doing. If I were Cal, with UK basically having a homecourt advantage in the SECT (as we know it's more the UK invitational than a conference tournament), I would be trying to make the SECT seem really important and like it was a huge prize. Also, I think the conference was a lot better last season and is definitely on the upswing. I wouldn't say the teams are terrible. I'm really excited about the future of the conference. Totally agree on the football timing though.
It's pretty clearly a negotiating ploy. Ask big and settle for what you actually want. He's been saying for years that the SEC Title game needs to be on Saturdays so the teams in it can actually benefit from it for tournament seeding. It's been falling on deaf ears so now he goes with something ridiculous and eventually gets the SEC to give him what he actually wants. That's how Calipari rolls, everything he says that is insane has an ulterior motive.
After some how getting left out the tournament last year, South Carolina has really beefed up the non-conference schedule. They will now play: Syracuse (in Brooklyn) Seton Hall (in MSG) at South Florida UMass Clemson Also trying to set up a game with VCU in D.C., a home-and-home with UConn and Georgia Tech.
Just trying to play better teams in general. Didn't say all of them were world beaters. Gotta have some games you can win. Everyone's schedules have a South Florida. We got killed for schedule last year, but a lot of those teams weren't awful as they ended up being when we scheduled them.
Auburn has scheduled a home-and-home with UConn starting with a trip to Hartford, Conn., on Dec. 23, a source familiar with the decision confirmed Tuesday to SEC Country. UConn will make a return trip to Auburn in 2017 Notable OOC games we have for next season @UCONN OU at the Hall-of-Fame in Springfield, Conn. Boston College @ Madison Square Garden Cancun Challenge with Purdue, Texas Tech and Utah State
Arkansas renewing their rivalry with Texas in hoops starting in 2017-18. Good chance both teams commit 30+ fouls each
Another in a long line of false statements from you No need to lash out about other sports because y'all have been in the cellar for like 20 years in hoops
That game will never not give me chills, remember it vividly as a little kid, was the loudest I've ever heard bud walton that night.
Qualls tip slam at the buzzer against Kentucky was wayyyy up there as far as noise goes for me. Had season tix from '91-'04 with my family and then gave it up after Heath
Sustained crowd into the game was that one for me, crowd didn't stop through the tv timeouts like it does now.
Well this might be a good thing.... Per Gary Parrish of CBS Sports: The SEC will soon announce it’s reached a deal with the AAC that’ll have the leagues sharing basketball refs, a source told @CBSSports. …… It’s a complicated deal. But here’s the bottom line: the SEC should now consistently have a higher caliber of refs working league games.
I still contend that the Big12 refs are worse than the SEC's. But college bb officiating is awful all around.
Apparently the referee agreement is with both the AAC and the ASUN. Sad that the SEC has to come to an agreement with these two lesser conferences to get better officials.
So Frank Martin is kind of a beast at building programs. Yesterday we announced Michigan is coming to Columbia for a game this year which is our best non-con game that wasn't part of a tourney or something in forever. Today we announced the commitment of a 6'9 Australian JUCO, which makes the fifth guy 6'9 or higher that will be on the roster this fall (with another 7 footer committed for next year). This is at a school where 6'9 is usually our center. Fuck football we basketball now
Frank Martin is a good coach. Psychopath, but a good coach. He definitely has an expiration date. His demeanor will grind on donors and a fanbase after a while.
It almost all came apart after this season when he had to kick half the team off for their BB gun shenanigans. However Frank turns right around undaunted and grabs cruits and big names for the schedule. This fan is ready to be in love with this psychopath for a while
Am I missing something with the recruiting? Only 3 of the 12 players signed in the 15 and 16 class were ranked in the top 300 on 247. Only 1 in the top 100. I know Frank can get a lot out of his guys but that seems like not much to be excited about. It is nice to see him upgrade the schedule though
What is the best site to look at basketball recruiting on? I feel like our Rivals page is not up to date
