kinda depends on where you are. Australia has absolutely been decimated by feral cats. Hawaii too. Most island-ish communities get totally irreparably destroyed by feral cats. Like, hundreds of extinct species.

The cats would be decimated by the snakes. You'd need feral weasels like ferrets or minks for that to be interesting.

I'm not going to pretend this is rational or anything, but I would probably want to end this bitch if she killed my cat. It's probably the toxoplasmo gondii living in my skull.

That being said, I would never let my cat outside unless there was a plague outbreak in my neighborhood and it was needed for rat control.

I think my favorite arguments on this story have been the "people so hunting all the time, what's the big deal?" comments. Like, they really think you can just go shooting deer whenever and wherever you want.

Recent discoveries suggest rats were falsely blamed for the plague. It was actually fleas and ticks responsible for spreading the disease. The cats were the ones bringing the fleas and ticks into the homes. So for the next plague Fluffy is best staying inside.

    NAPLES, FL -
A killer is on the loose in Collier County -- a cat killer that is.
A cat was found cut in half on the side of Estey Avenue in Naples Saturday morning. This comes after three severed cats were found on the same street two weeks ago.

"It's terror. It's like having a terrorist in you neighborhood," said neighbor Kaylyn Smith.

Kaylyn Smith loves animals. She has three cats and a dog of her own. She was horrified when she learned a cat was found cut in half down the street from her home.

"They only found half of the cat, so we're still looking for the other half of the cat," said Smith. "It's frightening. I'm concerned about my own animals."

Investigators showed up Saturday morning to find half of a butchered cat on the side of Estey Avenue.

Two weeks ago, three other severed cats were found in the neighborhood.

"I always look for cats, some killed cats. I've never had to do this before, but I'm starting to look now," said neighbor Barbara Messing.

"I thought it's a boot or something. But I got closer with my dogs, and my dogs started pulling. I saw it was half of a cat," said neighbor Ruth Luenterbusch.

Smith hopes the cat killer is caught before things get worse.

"Usually if it's someone killing cats, they step up to larger animals. Then they start killing people," said Smith.

The neighborhood is hoping to find the owner.

"These are people's pets, not feral cats. They're people's pets, and people's pets are part of their family," said Smith. "I'm not mad at them, but I am concerned that what they're doing is harming a lot of other people and their animals. They need help. They really need help."

The Collier County's Sheriff's Office is investigating the killings.

ll of us whom sent letters to the board, a copy of that letter. We will all be able to issue responses to that letter, and they are trying to get an audience with Kristen Lindsey. If they are able to do so, they will let all of us know so we have time to make any needed travel arrangements to attend that hearing in front of the board.

Eh--feral cats are noxious pests. Beyond their ecological impact, they will bite and claw passing humans, and the bacteria they cultivate is no joke. I think it's disgusting that people want this poor lady to lose her job and face felony charges for what was a honest, if misguided, mistake.

Oh well, she was dumb to post the pic online.

It was a pet. It wasn't a feral cat. You can't just shoot domesticated animals because you want too. You can't even shoot game animals if you want too unless it's their hunting season.

If you have a cat in your yard, you won't have anything else. They'll kill every single thing in their vicinity. It's kind of awesome.

Someone who is sawing cats in half is probably pretty fucked in the head. Especially, if they like it enough to continue to keep on doing it. I'm not saying they'll become serial killers, but you wanna know who the fuck they are so you can keep the weirdo in check.
Edit: not you as in you yourself, but the neighbors and the community there.

Hence the "mistake." And it might have been a pet cat, I don't think anyone knows for certain.

Anywho, you can't hunt game with no restrictions, but you can (or should be able to) clear your property of pests such as rats, poisonous snakes, etc... I have no problem with adding feral cats to that list regardless of their cute, fuzzy looks.

I read the story. It's "believed to be" Tiger, although I don't think anyone knows for sure or if there's any way they can definitively ID it. Certainly seems like it was Tiger I agree. Again, that's why I said "mistake."
  37. Yes it's totally normal and acceptable to walk around with a fucking bow luring animals to you and shooting them in the dome.

The bitch had no clue if the cat was feral, fuck em, give him one through the dome!

There are plenty of animals you can hunt in Texas that don't have a closed season or require tags (although you do need a valid hunting license). Feral cats are not one of them and killing one is more than a "mistake" regardless of whether you/she feel like they should be on that list.

    Most likely, yeah.

What method of death would you prefer? I know some ranchers who clear them with a 12-gauge, and others who bag and drown them. I think an arrow is better than either of those options, if less efficient.

Yep, still not allowed to do that by law. Not sure what the state's actual law is for that, but I'm from probably the most ass backwards state in the U.S, and they're throwing the book at a 19 yr old kid that did the exact same thing as this girl and he's not even a vet.

The discussion had me interested so I was going through some of the Texas game laws and a couple blogs on it. I found this one from Michigan State that indicated most states don't have specific laws regarding feral cats but evidently Texas is in the minority.

Not according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. You are correct though feral cats aren't covered. It shouldn't be that way IMO, but like I said she was stupid enough to post it online so it's hard to have too much sympathy for her. I still think it's disgusting how many strangers are clamoring for her to be prosecuted/lose her livelihood.

Yes, I was referring to TPWD as well...

    http://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoor-annual/hunting/nongame-and-other-species

The point is that feral cats are not covered on any TPWD page discussing hunting regulations. I'm also not sure why you would be disgusted by people wanting her to be prosecuted since there isn't any debate regarding whether or not she broke the law. She's also a vet (or was one) so I think it's safe to assume that she was aware that she was breaking the law, not that ignorance would be an excuse.

thank you. such a dumb fucking "fact" people love to tie into instant fear of being around a real serial killer(despite the fact that actual serial killers are incredibly rare). animal abuse is a warning sign for mental health disorders not necessarily a calling card of a future Dahmer. the problems inside that person's mind can manifest in any number of things which, of course, can lead to murder but it's for damn sure not a little box you tick off on the "is this kid fucking nuts?" diagnostic sheet.
