If I am Liverpool, I treat him just like Suarez at the time all the drama came up and see if he falls in line. If he does, put a new contract on the table with a large buyout clause and at least set up another year of him in Red to prove himself to the World he is worth it. Maybe he scores a lot more goals, helps us get back to CL and then we can profit from the sale next Summer. Just got to hope we don't blow the money this time, which is my hope if the two stat guys on the committee really do get fired.
I just hate that after 3 years we have no identity, no system. How can anyone buy players when no one seems to know what formation we're going to run? I also hate the idea of a transfer committee. They need to hire a DoF who can be responsible for what goes on in the transfer market, and someone to whom the coach will directly report to. This talk on Rodgers meeting with FSG where they'll slap his hand and tell him to play the players they buy is insane.
It is also insane for Rodgers to play players out of position because he is pouting about not getting who he wants. The whole thing needs to be evaluated and revamped. And I agree we need a Director of Football, with a scouting group/committee that presents them to Rodgers and the DoF for a final decision.
i'm sorry but comparing this situation to sterling's is hilarious. As i've said, there's not many clubs outside of the UK that want him, and there's no reason to think he isn't going continue being a twit about this. The big english clubs are all you got, and luckily for lfc, the fact he's english will mean you'll get a nice amount of money for him.
A lot of players have forced their way out with that much time. Cesc refused to participate in preseason with 4 years left on his deal, believe Modric did something similar. You can hope for another Suarez situation, don't see him having that level of interest in a year. His value isn't gonna be higher in a year than it is now.
it'd also be a bold move to hold onto him for another year relying on his potential to still bring in 30mil
Close to 100k, he actually took a pay cut to go to Barca plus Alexis was their #1 priority that summer. He was just hell bent on leaving even though they didn't act like they wanted him all that badly.
Sterling makes 35k. He's already given away over £2.5 mil by not signing an extension. He's not going to forgo pay as a 21 year old and refuse to play
Why even deal with him and his shit bag agent, you could probably get close to 50 mil. It's not like giving us Suarez for 40 which is way less than his worth as a player, 45+ is more than fair for what Sterling has shown. Highly doubt his value will be higher in a year, especially with 1 year left on his deal.
If they get an offer like that, they'll sell him most likely. I just don't think they'll get a 40-45 mil bid
City with no FFP restrictions = 45. Chelsea and Arsenal probably pay 30-35 for him, United maybe a bit more.
Either way it is our choice. We can leave him on the bench at £35000 a week in wages (this is the same club paying Glen Johnson £100,000 a week to sit on his ass or stand like a statue on the field). We paid £600,000 for him. While I would sell him at £35M to anyone, I don't think they are too worried about finding a team outside of EPL to pay £30M. He has a lot to lose by playing this out and/or sitting on the bench.
How about if he doesn't sign for either Manchester team this Summer? I will leave if he does sign with either.
Liverpool and Man United will never do business. So anyone thinking that's even an option is kidding themselves. City though..........
Could easily see City spending 40-45 on Sterling and paying him 180 a week. That's nothing for them. Liverpool would be dumb not to take that too.
I mean you do what you want. I was more making a point that no non English club would pay the money you want
I would miss you too much anyway. Plus, if City wants to pay 40 or more for him, have at it. I just hate that we will waste it on the wrong Southampton players.
Of all the place to shop, buying midtable players from the premier league is the absolute worst place to go for players. Look at all of the shit we've bought the last few years, Lovren, Lallana, Lamber, Allen, Adam, Downing, Carroll. We even got Jole Cole on a big wages free. Henderson is the only player that's really panned out and even that fee is a bit iffy. Please stop fucking buying midtable players. People talk about FSG's moneyball approach but if you've read moneyball you would know what they are doing is nothing like what moneyball espoused. They aren't finding any market inefficiencies, if anything they are doing the exact opposite.
I am excluding Lallana from any list right now. I think he is going to round into better form next season. I think he would have had a better season with the right guy/healthy guy up front.
I know the Liverpool journalists have been adamant, but if we lose on Sunday and finish 7th, that has to be it for Rodgers right?
Sterling wants to be in London. He's shown every sign of it since he came to Liverpool. I'd take Walcott in a heartbeat.
@LFC: Confirmed #LFC team v @stokecity: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Lallana, Coutinho Can't decide if I should root for a win or a loss. If we end up 7th maybe villa can pull out a FA cup miracle and Rodgers will be fired
