Only player I’ve liked on this team all year. Gonna have a Mason Jones type season next year. Everyone else can kick rocks except maybe Menifield and Fall.
I’m not confident he stays. Last couple games being DNP-CD is strange but maybe just a feeling I have
Not that anyone cares but Jimmy Smith left for lateral move to TCU. A year ago I would’ve been upset but his group really fucking sucked last year and the recruiting didn’t do him much favors. Supposedly him and Petrino didn’t mesh well and he’d been looking for a way out, and almost landed the RB job at UGA. Don’t really care anymore, but certainly don’t need anymore Enos or Kennedy types on staff that have already packed their bags and trying to gtfo. Only problem is we’ve got that with our head coach.
He made 360k last year. Not sure if he was set to make more this year or not. Doesn’t really matter bc he wanted out. Our assistant pool money shrank last year mostly bc we are cheap and bc Odom and Briles were overpaid
Now we can start with all the who's staying, and who' s leaving shit. The portal will be wild for us this year.
from SI House Cleaning Needed at Arkansas Razorback basketball's only path back to prominence requires Musselman's mental toughness KENT SMITH Spoiler FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Many years ago, there was a film program in North Texas that had all the ingredients to be a national award-winning program. There was a ton of energy, people were falling over themselves to get in and the group finally had its hands on decent equipment. Among the hopefuls in the beginning class was a young man who was incredibly talented. He was a great story teller, brilliant actor, one of the best artistic eyes through the camera lens and people naturally followed him. Yet, the only way that program was ever going to reach its potential is if he was gone. Arkansas coach Eric Musselman had a room full of guys like this young man this year and it forced him to learn a hard lesson. You see, the young man was highly disrespectful and difficult to work with. If the spotlight wasn't on him, he acted out in negative ways that brought it back to him even in times it shouldn't have been. When it was time for him to help others shine by contributing to their success, the one thing that could be counted on was that his attitude would turn to garbage and he would sabotage what should have easily been greatness one way or another. He gleefully ran down all those around him to make himself feel better, including the staff's adviser. It was a cancer that took what should have been the most productive group of students in the beginning class and seriously stunted their growth and potential. In the end, a call had to be made. When it came time to hand out applications to join the varsity film team, he not only wasn't accepted, he wasn't allowed to apply, instead being encouraged to take his skills to another program. Arkansas had the talent to compete for a national championship this year. Unfortunately, it was selfish talent with unwarranted snotty, know-it-all attitudes. The players themselves said as much, and throughout the course of the year, reports of players running their mouths in practice and away from formal team areas painted a picture of Razorback athletes, many of whom had no skins on the wall, deciding they know better than the staff, so no need in getting on board with the plan put forth by Musselman. It should be noted that Musselman isn't completely innocent. Several portal players, when reviewed by our staff as people Arkansas had contacted last season, were labeled as candidates who weren't to be taken seriously as possible future Razorbacks because they were selfish, turnover prone, and wouldn't play defense. None of those traits were a fit for the Musselman way. Yet, for whatever reason, his prime targets fell by the wayside and those odd fits were brought in. Everyone knows the rest of the story. Complete implosion of a team torn apart by internal strife. Now it's time to review the receipts. Anyone who was super talented whose attitude kept the rest from coming together and reaching their potential must be refused the chance to consider coming back next year. However, every effort needs to be made to keep those hard workers, solid foot soldiers who did what was needed to help whenever asked. Good players with great attitudes can achieve much under a good coach, but great players with bad attitudes can't reach greatness no matter how good the coach. Unfortunately for Arkansas, bad apples usually do so much damage that good men are soured on coming back. Getting rid of the film kid who had superstar written all over him from a talent perspective was the best thing that could happen to that program. A staff full of worker bees with great attitudes highlighted by several good talents who evolved to really good with coaching created a truly great staff. The result was numerous national championships the following year while the young man watched from afar. The same can be the case for Arkansas if Musselman takes the right approach. If players don't want to be coachable, get out of their comfort zone, and do everything to push forward with their teammates as one for the greater good, then they need to go somewhere else. These cuts need to happen quickly. A strong message needs to be sent. It's not like Musselman doesn't know who has had a trash attitude throughout the season. There's no need to drag it out falling in love with a players' talent. Great talent is useless if it doesn't show up every day to be utilized for the job its asked. The best chef in the world has no value if he shows up to work late, makes everyone around him miserable with his whining and complaining and refuses to make half the menu because he thinks its beneath him. The faster that chef is removed from the building the faster production can get back to the previously established level to grow from there. The good news is with those who are out of eligibility and others who are already in the portal, there's not a lot left for Musselman to consider. Things have pretty much been stripped down to the studs. If he chooses to invest significant time into evaluating who players are as human beings both on and off the court in addition all the time spent breaking down traditional basketball skills, Arkansas will be fine next year. Musselman didn't forget how to coach this year. He just needs young men who are willing to soak up what he has to offer. I didn't spend much time watching this team. Which player(s?) are/were the attitude problem?
I ain't reading all that. Bunch of headcases and drama queens were the problem this year. When you essentially bring in a new team every year, you're bound to have one that doesn't gel. This year sucked. It happens
He compared the Arkansas basketball team to a random film school team from north Texas? I honestly can’t believe that’s a serious article
Best of luck to Devo on his next stop. This was obviously a mutual decision and best for both for him to play elsewhere. Truly hope he can stay healthy and have a great last season.
#Oklahoma State Cowboys I'm very likely going to @ ok state game this fall, Stillwater will never be the same. Any advice? TIA
Good. One bad year does not negate the previous three. Muss is a good coach. Good coaches should be given the chance to fix things.
They’re going to be much more selective in the portal this year and do some better vetting rather than just acquiring talent. We turned down a bunch of guys that ended up being awesome at their next spots because we wanted to secure guys like Davenport and El Ellis and holding a spot for Ron Holland.
imo seasons like that will happen when you're relying on 8-10 new portal players every single year. seems like they get it right more often than they dont though
Below the rim big with some good footwork and touch in the paint. Kind of a weird take tbh and not someone that we’ve had in the past under Muss, but I’m fine with it.
Would be pretty out of the ordinary to take a commit from a transfer like two days ago if you planned on leaving. Think it’s pretty clear Muss and HY’s communication is pretty minimal right now which probably isn’t great
was just coming to post. Hunter has lost his damn mind Yurachek’s Revelation about Musselman Contract Can’t Help but Stoke USC Basketball Fears By Evin Demirel - April 1, 2024 In the last few days, the last name “Cohen” has been a source of good news for Arkansas basketball fans. Especially after Josh Cohen, a 6’10” big with smooth moves down low, committed to Arkansas to become the first in a transfer class brimming with promising candidates. Such good vibes associated with that particular surname may not last long, though. Jennifer Cohen is the athletic director of the University of Southern California and she has a new coaching search that could end up making the Razorback faithful quite upset. USC Basketball Coach Candidates Emerge Their head coach, Eric Musselman, is considered by many as a top candidate in the wake of former USC basketball coach Andy Enfield’s departure for SMU. At this juncture, other possibilities include Texas A&M’s Buzz Williams, TCU’s Jamie Dixon, Kansas State’s Jerome Tang, Colorado State’s Niko Medved and BYU’s Mark Pope, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander. It would be reassuring if a new contract extension was in the works at Arkansas. But that’s not the case, Hunter Yurachek said on Monday in an interview with 1 Star Recruits out of, coincidentally, Los Angeles. “There’s not a new contract in place for him this year,” Yurachek said in the below snippet recorded on Monday afternoon. And he went on to explain that he had his staff doctor an old “Muss Bus” video to dispel rumors that Musselman was going anywhere late last week. “That is my sense of humor coming across. That was not something that was a coordinated or collaborated effort between myself and Coach Musselman,” he said. Spoiler In another segment, Yurachek added: “He’s still the basketball coach as we sit here today and record this podcast at the University of Arkansas. He has been well taken care of in his past contracts, where he’s had a couple of extensions in the past few years and six figure increases… that video was just to kind of dispel some of the rumors [to stress] that, ‘Hey, he’s still our basketball coach.'” “Now, this may change tomorrow. You’ll have to ask Coach Musselman that. But we very much want him to be an Arkansas Razorback.” This is not exactly a resounding affirmation that the head Hog will return for the 2024-25 season. We’ll have to wait and see what happens on the USC basketball front, as it would be a big surprise if Jennifer Cohen’s people were not in contact with Eric Musselman’s people to gauge interest at this point. It would be an even bigger surprise if Musselman didn’t entertain the notion given his love of southern California in general and the proximity to his mother in San Diego. Hunter Yurachek on Bobby Petrino Taking Over In the forthcoming interview, Yurachek also discussed a multitude of other topics, including his thoughts on Bobby Petrino, the Razorbacks’ new offensive coordinator, and what went wrong during the 2023 Arkansas football season. “One of the things our program, I think, was really missing last year was strong leadership, both on the offense and defensive side of the ball,” Yurachek said. “We had some talent. I’m not sure we had great leadership, and then we had a offensive coordinator that may not have been the best fit at the best time for our program.“ “That’s where Coach [Bobby] Petrino has filled in that gap. One of the things I truly believe that Sam Pittman missed last year was having a head coach like he had in Barry Odom, former head coach, is a member of his staff. Coach Petrino has been a head coach in the NFL and at many stops along the college space.” “I think he offers a different perspective and point of view for coach that he did not have.” Interestingly, Yurachek does explain what he’s looking for in terms of wins next season: “I don’t know that this is a make or break year, but this is a year, definitively. We’ve got to show some improvement heading back in the direction away from four and eight, and towards seven and five, eight and four.” The 1 Star Recruit podcast hosts also asked him something on the minds of most Razorback fans – Is there a path for Petrino to take over as head coach for Pittman during or after the 2024 season? “I will tell you that that is not definitively a path here at the University of Arkansas, for him to get back to be a head coach,” Yurachek responded. “I don’t know if he has aspirations to be a head coach somewhere else. What I will tell you is he’s done a great job, so far, being our offensive coordinator. He’s been incredibly supportive of Sam Pittman and buying into the program that Sam Pittman has.” This has only been a preview of the great 21-minute interview 1 Star Recruits conducted today. I really haven’t been following much since the middle of football season. Seems like the university just doesn’t care anymore. shame.
Yurachek has to go. He has totally fucked up NIL since day one. He couldn’t find the money to fire Pittman. He is doing weird shit on social media with a coach that is in demand at other schools. He got taken to the cleaners by sexton on the Pittman contract. They can’t let him hire the next football coach. It’s cool that the non revenue sports are doing well but really who gives a shit. The absolute disgrace that is Arkansas NIL should be enough to fund someone new. He isn’t built for 2024 athletics. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone in Fayetteville cares.
keeping pittman and losing muss should be the nail in the coffin for him. tbh he should've been because of the terrible NIL situation. they need to hire houston nutt in some capacity at arkansas edge. he can work a room and would bring in a ton of money imo. send his ass to every country club in the state with donation forms.
Knowing how many people were antsy to help athletics when I was there years ago, the departments fumbling of the NIL bag is pretty incredible.
If he’s trying to run off the most successful basketball coach of a generation because he thinks he might he able to hire beard then he needs to be locked out of his office. That’s so fucking dumb.
