I feel like the THJ trade means that Bud thinks we can win asap. He has something planned out in free agency.
Personally really like the trade. I was a Hardaway fan coming out of college and i think he played well last year on a bad team in an offense that didn't fit him. He could really excel with Bud and I trust their judgement. Cap savings makes me think we might be trying to make a run at one of the big guns
THJ came into a shitty situation with the Knicks. Basically was asked to stand in a corner while Carmelo played Hero ball for a year (where he did make the 1st team all rookie) and last year I wouldn't put too much stock into that, playing on a bad team that was actively trying to bad and basically green-lighting him when on the court which is not good for him. That being said, not sure he's worth a 1st round pick. He's a streaky good shooter, hits shots and scores in bunches ... still not the best ball handler or defender and his assist numbers will never wow you, better rebounder than most who play the 2. On a personal note, I grew up in Marietta in the late 80's and my Dad had season tickets at the Omni so took in a bunch of games in that era and was a borderline obsessive Nique fan, moved to Michigan and kind of went all in on the collegiate stuff, but been watching more NBA since some Michigan guys are making it. Been thinking about pulling the trigger and getting back in and would obvi be the Hawks if that were the case so might be hanging around a little.
So are we stashing the two foreign kids? Basically we saved a lot of money for free agency? Fran Tarkenton?
From what I'm reading, it looks like the Hawks are trying to pick up a power forward via free agency and will dump Mike Scott or Pero Antic. The last two picks will be stashed.
Definitely seems like we want to make a run at a free agency big... If we could pull off a quality signing to pair with horford could be scary good
So the new ownership is already talking about a new arena. Phillips isnt good enough. Stated they havent decided if itll be downtown or OTP. RReal laaaaame
Terran Petteway was a good signing for the summer league. Wouldn't be surprised to see him grab a roster spot. Saw him as high as mid 2nd round in some mocks so kind of makes up for the two stash picks in the late 2nd round. Petteway is a utility player without a defining strength, but he's still a good one. Great at attacking the rim, good rebounder for a wing, forced to play hero ball at times with Nebraska not surrounding him with talent, but he basically willed that team to the NCAA tournament in 2013/14. Last year, was the focal point of every defense he played and still was 3rd in conference in scoring. Plays balls out all game, can get hot, but not going to light up from 3. Utility garbage man type of player on the next level. On the negative, falls in love with the long jump shot and have seen him shoot Nebraska out of a lot of games like that. Not a great athlete and tends to turn the ball over, but out of hustle, not laziness. Good kid too, know he had some rough family stuff happen last year, but probably was a late 1st round grade in 13/14 before coming back.
Is this for real? No way this can be real after all the hate the true to Atlantans have given the Braves. Bad pr to even mention otp as a possibility.
Not sure what the problem is with Phillips other than it was really built for Hockey. Maybe the wall of unused Boxes.
He is basically saying, "hey, any governments want to give me free money?" Public funding of stadiums have set the shitty precedent where it is a smart business move to at least test the waters. We don't really know his intentions yet.
well the entire seating configuration and sightlines for Hockey is a big problem then the premium seating needs to be re-done the concourses need to be modernized/enhanced too Philips is the perfect location. The City just needs to pitch in on renovation upgrades bc its about to be 20 years old. The City profits off of Philips. If the City doesn't give the Hawks money, one of the suburbs will.
Just read the article on the AJC.. The Hawks management had this whole plan for a new arena somewhere along 400 and Ted said fuck that, I like to walk to games from my pent house. That had to be infuriating.
Yup, lived in Jefferson Township for a couple of years, then over to Horseshoe Bend off Holcomb Bridge. Moved back up with my Mom to MI in 89/90 and my Dad stayed down there until 03/04 I think. Haven't been back since then which sucks.
so now we are working with PG: Teague/Schroeder/Mack SG: Korver/Hardaway/Bazemore SF: _____ /Sefolosha/Bazemore/Austin Daye PF: _____ /MikeScott/Muscala/Austin Daye C: Horford/EdyTaveras?/Muscala and we will have something like $25million of cap space to work with
oof 29. Atlanta Hawks: If the Hawks weren't trying to save money, their trade of the No. 15 pick for Tim Hardaway Jr. would be one dumb move. Well, it's still dumb. Then they drafted two unknown foreign players — Spain's Marcus Eriksson (No. 50) and Greece's Dimitrios Agravanis (No. 59). Grade: F. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...es-heat-nuggets-timberwolves-lakers/29308641/ Selections: Marcus Eriksson (No. 50), Dimitrios Agravanis (No. 59) Acquired Players: Tim Hardaway Jr., two future second-round picks The Hawks had one of my least favorite drafts of the night. They started the night with the No. 15 pick, and ended up moving down to No. 19 for the price of two future second-round picks. The Wizards then selected Kelly Oubre, a player that could have acted as a pretty nice long-term replacement for DeMarre Carroll in a few years. Then, instead of insuring themselves against the potential of Paul Millsap leaving by taking the No. 11 player on my board in Bobby Portis, they traded out of the first round altogether for Tim Hardaway Jr., a guy that shot 39 percent last season and really struggled to defend. He fills a depth need on the wing, but I'm not convinced he and two second rounders are worth giving up for Oubre, Portis, or any other higher variance pick at all. In fact, that one didn't make sense to me in the slightest. Their second round picks were both stashes. Eriksson is a smooth shooter that missed a majority of the season with a torn ACL. Agravanis is a potential stretch-4 at 6-10 out of Olympiakos. Overall, it just seems like an awfully squandered opportunity out of the pick swap from the Joe Johnson trade. Draft Grade: C-
I like the move. This system made Demarre millions, he averaged 6 ppg when we signed him. Bud was in San Antonio when guys like Gary Neal, Danny Greene and Boris Diaw resurrected their careers. Thabo (fuck the police) and Korver are coming off injuries and Hardaway can give us some juice and made buckets coming off the bench. Gotta think we go all in on 1 big FA and bring a stashed foreign player over.
I think the original plan for the arena for hockey/basketball was around the 400/Abernathy area on the west side of 400. I think some more fans from that area would've gone to games (especially hockey) but I'm definitely a fan of all stadiums/arenas being downtown or a centralized location. Football is the only sport I don't mind being in the burbs due to the amount of events and when they are played. As others have said, nobody was bitching about the location of Philips in January/February during the winning streak or during the playoffs.
Last paragraph is all that needs to be said. Phillips will be packed if they are good. I went to numerous week night hockey sellouts. People stopped going when ownership quit on the team.
Using that same logic Oubri could have turned out to be a star in this system and/or bazemore could flourish in a bigger role. I think everyone will be fine with this if the couple million bucks actually lands us Aldridge.
Earlier in the day, we took an advanced look at the options the Atlanta Hawks could pursue with regard to Walter (Edy) Tavares and Lamar Patterson. Ironically, news broke shortly after about Tavares, and the fact that he wouldn't be pursuing an opportunity to play with the Hawks in the upcoming Las Vegas Summer League. David Pick @IAmDPick Walter Tavares is gonna get paid. Barcelona, Madrid and Fenerbahce - I'm told - in pursuit of EuroCup best center. David Pick @IAmDPick Walter Tavares isn't joining the Hawks for Summer League, a source said. Fenerbahce pushing to sign him. This is huge news in that Tavares could legitimately be weighing options to pursue a contract in Europe that would bar him from joining the Hawks in the immediate future. Some have assumed that Tavares would arrive in time for the 2015-2016, but at the very least, he has appeared to be in the short-term plans for the franchise, and it is not encouraging that he would bypass Summer League. The potential implications here are wide-reaching. Atlanta would already be forced to use cap space to sign Tavares, but if chooses to sign a long-term deal in Europe, it could nearly close the door on a future in Atlanta. There is much more to come with this situation, but as of now, it is safe to assume that Walter Tavares won't be in Las Vegas, and without a first-round pick to focus on, the Summer League roster could be... interesting.
Brad Rowland @BTRowland If we are to believe reports, the Hawks will have Mike Moser, Terran Petteway, DeAndre Kane, Brandon Ashley and Lamar Patterson for LVSL.
The line of thinking seemed to be we didn't need a big because Tavares was coming over. Have to wonder if we would have gone in a different direction had we known this a week ago.
