they dont even play the same position, so I dont get that line of thinking. I did want Portis but I also have no clue what the free agency plans are.
Portis is 6'11. I don't see how a guy that plays 4 and a guy that plays 5 aren't connected especially when Horford plays both positions. I'm just saying we have one less big body than we thought.
They don't play the same position. Portis wont be guarding the 5 in the NBA. Taveras wont be guarding the 4. Neither are Al Horford and not many NBAers have his skill set to play both positions. You cant say that when you dont know what the free agency plans are. Bringing Taveras over might never have been the plan ya know? Everything is going to be OK. It will be safe to panic when we strike out on everybody in free agency.
Posted about this in the Supreme Court Decision thread, but man the amount of jimmies rustled could fill an ocean right now. I think that maybe it wasn't the best idea seeing as how there are plenty of fans in the "South" and don't agree, but the jimmy rustling was top notch.
It'll be interesting to see if new ownership wants to make a splash or not. Lot of bigs on the market and while I dont see us in play for Drandre Jordan, I could see us making a run at a David Lee type player
Hawks principle owner Tony Ressler said he expects to spend over the NBA salary cap on player salaries. In an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week, Ressler addressed a wide-ranging number of topics in discussing his commitment to the franchise and fan base. Ressler said one way ownership will show its commitment is by “having a payroll that is between the cap and the (luxury) tax but never below the cap, having real payroll, having a commitment to keeping a quality team.” Atlanta Hawks new owner Tony Ressler speaks during a news conference to announce the sale of the NBA basketball team to an ownership group led by Ressler, Thursday, June 25, 2015, in Atlanta. (AP Photo/Todd Kirkland) The salary cap will be $67.1 million with a luxury tax line of $81.6 million next season. The cap is expected to rise dramatically the following year with the new television contract. The Hawks have $40.5 million in committed salary to 11 players next season. Starters Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll and Elton Brand and John Jenkins become unrestricted free agents on July 1. Pero Antic is a restricted free agent.
Pero can piss off Wonder if letting Payne go to Minnesota was the right call if we can't get Tavares over
Thoughts on Draymond? Yahoo article linked him to us perhaps. I think he's overrated and doesn't deserve a max, but he defends well and brings a lot of energy.
sounds like Detroit is going heavy after Demarre Thiago Splitter could be had (costs $8mil) if we are in need of a big and San Antonio gets Aldridge.
Yeah, even though our name was out there for him, practically everyone's was. I didn't realistically expect it would happen. I think the most realistic course is that we end up with Millsap and (hopefully) Edy. Only question is who we'll get to fill Demarre's spot. Still wish we kept Demarre and let Millsap walk, but that's not how things are trending.
@Chris_Broussard: Sources: @Paulmillsap4 met w/Orlando last night, was offered Mac 4 yr, $80 million deal. Millsap will decide Btwn ATL & Orl.
@Chris_Broussard: Sources: Kings like FA's @RajonRondo & @JLin7. Eyes Ty Lawson, Dennis Schroder, Jrue Holiday n trades. Plan 2 play another PG w/DCollison
@Chris_Broussard: New York, Indiana, Dallas were interested in Millsap but he will not meet with them. Deciding Btwn offers from ATL & Orl
So none of you think Millsap is worth that contract, even with the projected spike in the salary cap? Serious question, I'm a Magic fan
Interesting. I like the guy and think he'd help Orlando a ton. Maybe it's the difference in cap situations between the two teams; Orlando has zero big contracts... Well other than Frye, but even his isn't god-awful
Millsap with his bird rights this year for $20m isnt bad, especially with the cap going up to like 95 next year. Spurs should be needing to dump Thiago Splitter now. Demarre is going to get paid, have to hope he takes the unlikely hometown discount.
@WojYahooNBA: The San Antonio Spurs have traded center Tiago Splitter to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
