It would be a consistent hour. Highly recommended against living out there. I have a 35 minute commute. Which is actually shorter than when I live in thecity. Be of the peach pass.
The n Fulton burbs are nightmares if you have to go to the city daily. Go to Dunwoody or Sandy Springs. Roswell/Alpharetta great places to live/raise families but that's 2 hours of ride time each day if you work downtown
Good to know. Have been trying to make a move to Atlanta for a while but couldn't get a sniff with a Tampa address on my resume. In this case, the company came to me so they're aware it's a relocation and have mentioned a relo package. I realize Atlanta is way larger than Tampa and it's impossible to live somewhere that's within a reasonable commute to everywhere because of traffic, but my fear is moving somewhere that closes off a significant portion of opportunities if my wife has to look for a new job. She's a Jewish lawyer. Y'all take kindly to them or nah?
Yeah, as much as we can be with two kids, I guess. Some of these houses look absurd. This looks like a god damn ski chalet: http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/751-Grimes-Bridge-Rd_Roswell_GA_30075_M61464-92993
This one is even crazier. And how are property taxes so cheap? http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/421-Sassafras-Rd_Roswell_GA_30076_M54749-17329
Personally, with that budget, I wouldn't live in roswell. dunwoody should be as far out as you should go. Go to zillow and draw a map.
Just gonna leave this here. FICTION: Cobb County residents will pay more taxes to fund the stadium. FACT: Cobb County homeowners will not see their taxes go up one penny, and no money will be diverted from public education or public safety. The bonds being financed to pay for the stadium’s construction will be paid off with revenue currently being used to pay down existing bonds that were taken out to complete countywide green space improvements. Once the green space bonds are paid off, the revenue will used to pay down the stadium bonds. Additional funds needed to pay for the new stadium will be paid by Cobb County businesses and visitors. In addition, no taxpayer dollars will go into the mixed-use development, which will generate millions of new dollars in sales and property tax revenue to the County.
Yeah, that makes sense. Still can't get over the property tax thing. Both houses we've owned have been in a master planned community in suburban Tampa. First house was 1,749 square feet, purchased for $225k and our taxes were $3,500. Current house is 2,400 square feet, purchased for $385k and taxes are $7,000. Then again, we don't have state taxes.
May also want to check out Virginia Place Townhomes for an idea of where to say no to a realtor when they start trying to suggest square footage in town
For sure. ATL has an long established Jewish community. Some of the city's most renowned philanthropists. Was chronicled a bit in Driving Miss Daisy.
Boo MFer! How important is your kids education weighted against killing urself because you live in the fucking suburbs? On the east side of the city north of 20, you're good at elementary then shit gets scary. If you can afford to live in Grady or North Atlanta HS districts, they are solid intown locations. Not ATL, but druid hills and oak Grove has decent schools. Big Jew area, some hasidics too. Wife might fit in. For 500k East Lake might be a solid spot. Or my hood, Kirkwood. MARTA for ur commute and 1st Tier for Drew Charter school. Public Elementary is good through 5th grade, so you'll have a few years to get into drew.
Schools would be pretty important. I've had 45-60 minute commutes before, so I know how much it sucks, but there's no way the wife would send the kids to a shitty school. I have a call next week to talk more with the company, so we'll see what happens. If we move, I want a brick house. Brick houses don't exist in Florida. Like I said, there's a good chance this is all just a daydream, but I'm ready to become a Barves fan!
The Braves are faggots. If you wanna be a fan just go live in Cobb County and never associate with anyone else in this thread again.
Boo MFer! I live in Brookhaven, very solid community. Chamblee, which is next to Brookhaven, is gradually being improved with lots of construction going on along Peachtree. Smaller, older houses are now being torn down and built up there. Most of the kids in Brookhaven go private and wind up at either St. Pius or Marist, which is a 5-10 minute drive. I grew up in Roswell and know that there and Alpharetta are quality locations for families but if you're working in Atlanta with a 500K budget, then Brookhaven, Sandy Springs and Dunwoody is where I would focus
Good buddy just bought in Chamblee one street over from Brookhaven. Chamblee has a good public hs, along with the the catholic schools above nearby.
Still a great time to buy but damn I wish I would have bought back in January before construction started. With everything being put in on Peachtree, prices went up a tad bit more than I'd like for a smaller house. Your buddy buy off of Johnson Ferry?
Yeah, either of these would do nicely. http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/1948-Gramercy-Cir_Atlanta_GA_30341_M63188-92825 http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/3205-Bolero-Pass_Atlanta_GA_30341_M59724-05404
Great info being shared it seems like. Wife and I are going to look to buy our first house in probably another year and a half but will probably have a budget around $300k-ish. Hope Chamblee won't be super fucking expensive then since it seems like would be a great place for us given the schools and the location. We're currently in Doraville just inside the perimeter and it seems like it's slowly increasing in value as well, but I'm not sure how good the schools are either (no kids yet but currently trying).
For sure, all economic drivers and demographics point to a strong market for the near future. Demand will keep intown areas strong even with potential economic troubles on the horizon. He bought immediately across Clairmont from PDK Airport, one street north of being Brookhaven. I can get to him up Clairmont from East Lake just as easy as the interstate.
I live on Gramercy Cir. My buddy just moved out of 1948. It's a nice house and has a basement that you can deck out.
I'd like to speak on behalf of Marietta but I will wait to see if Tim "backalley stadium shithead" Lee gets voted out next week. We got them schools tho. But really that stadium is single-handedly wanting me to move elsewhere. fuck that shit so hard.,
As if driving up 75 to see my family occasionally wasn't hard enough, now there's Comcast Park to fuck things up worse, but go Trojans!
