My first 10k race this morning. 56:08 time. Previous best 10k time on my own was 57:05. Kind of pissed. I was hoping for 54-55min range. The last mile I ran in 7:50 after these splits in the first 5 miles: 8:54, 9:10, 9:01, 9:24, 9:26. Definitely pussed out in that mile4-5 section I kept thinking I need to not go too fast or I'll crash. I should've pushed it more, I shouldn't have been able to do last mile in 7:50. Oh yeah also I finished 4th in my age group and the top 3 got medals. 3rd place beat me by 30 seconds. Obviously a very small and slow field but after seeing last year's results I had that top 3 in mind. Can't wait for the next one
Beautiful day here in the Nati. Wife's out on her last 8 mile run and in 1/2 hour it's my turn. Then put in a few miles this week and next Sunday is go time. I'm kind of pumped. I think this will be a good run. BTW, stopped in the local shop last night where I bought my shoes to pick up some gels and stuff and thank the staff for the service and extensive great free advice without a sales pitch to really help me get into this. The woman said the flying pig is actually a very tough race to make your first attempt with all of the hills. Ah well. Bring it in. Here piggy piggy....
Allergies suck. It makes running so difficult. Going to see an allergist later this week. Hopefully I'll get shots or meds that work and can breathe. 6 miles today was OK, but I think it would have been better if I could breathe instead of wheezing the whole way.
Yeah, oxygen can be important. Hope you can get it taken care of. Went 9 miles for my best-feeling and most enjoyable long run yet. 11 minute miles. Not fast for serious runners, but for perspective- went 7 earlier in the week at 12 per and last Saturday went 11 miles at almost 12:30 per. I just felt that good today. I kind of wish the pig had been today.
Just got into running the 1st of the year, been running 1.5 miles on the treadmill just about everyday. Over the last few weeks I've moved up to 2 miles outside since the weather broke. I'm training for a mud run on May 21 (5k and 30 obstacles), leading up to the race when do I quit running to get ready for the race, a few days before or a week before? I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to running any help would be appreciated.
you dont quit running. you adjust your workouts between harder and easier workouts and end on an easy day the day before your race let me rephrase that. if your race is on a Saturday you should go Mon-easy Tues-somewhat hard Wed-hard Thurs-easy Friday-Light. also you could switch Tuesday and Wednesday
Gotcha, I wasn't sure if you took a couple days break or just kept doing what you've been doing, thanks.
1st 5K ever at 7:31 pace today Been training for ~8 weeks, was a personal best even with the complete cluster at the start dodging all the walkers
So this cold/sinus infection I came down with Friday is going to put a damper on my running. Going to take today off and at least get back to walking on the treadmill tomorrow
Went out to run 6 miles. Got very lost. Ended up running 8. Fun fact: freshly turned earth is not easy to run in. Fun fact two: it is super creepy when 50 sheep all look up at you at the same time.
Been busy and getting over a cold that's still lingering from last week. 3 mile run this morning at about 9:40 pace.
I'm an idiot. Instead of taking my Hal Higdon-prescribed rest day, I attempted to do 4 miles. Started off blazing for 2.5 miles in 25 min (I'm a 5mpher or so) and hit the wall. Had to walk the last 1.5 - but was so fast on the way out, I was still on pace for the full run. Ridiculous.
Just did 3.8 miles at 9:48 per. Pretty sure that's the longest distance I've ever run in one go non stop. Did my 3rd mile in 9:31
http://www.runnersworld.com/london-...arathonWin&smartcode=YN_0022666498_0001550785 Dude finished 8 seconds off the world record in London.
I've been doing no other exercise except running since February and it's time to add new stuff to get stronger. Trying out this for the next few weeks: http://hundredpushups.com/hpu_pocket.pdf any of you do other training aside from running? lift at gym? bike? swim?
Few other push up workouts we do: 10 in 10. 10 pushups every 10 seconds for 10 rounds. With 10 second breaks 4 pushups every 15 seconds for 20 minutes. We've only been able to to up to 15 minutes, since we do it at the end of the workout. Got it from a Black Sails article in Mens Health.
Tried this once. I think I made it 2 weeks. I do DDP Yoga sometimes but not enough. Need to do it 2-3 times a week on top of running. Running in the morning now so I should do Yoga in the evening.
strained my neck last night doing day 1 of that push-up program. brilliant. the last set I was straining and probably lost good form. triceps feel good today though
No kids. They were still sleeping. It was nice running alone for a change. How often do you guys buy new shoes. My heel was hurting me all day yesterday after my run.
I lift a little and cycle. Brick workout are great. Trick your body into thinking you went on a long run without the added injury risk of a long run.
I haven't run enough to buy new shoes yet. Shoe store told me suggested shoe replacement is in the 300-500 miles range. per Strava I've put 141.5 miles so far and these Asics are doing fine. I hated the Hoka Clifton 2's and returned them after 40.7 miles.
Got my virtual swag bag today. Mostly unimpressive but thought "LOOK AT ALL OF THESE FUTURE RACES I CAN SIGN UP FOR!" I think I may already be addicted.
Good way to stay motivated. Got 3 10ks coming up (May, June, & July) and a 10mile in Oct. Will Probably sign up for a Half Marathon in November. Means I need to find some races in August and September. Just found a 10k on Labor Day. Meant to do it last year, but I lost motivation in August. August is kind of dead for races in GA but there is a 10k trail race up in Chattanooga that might be fun.
I think 10Ks will be a good way to keep myself accountable without a training regimen that takes over life. With the half coming up, the Mrs. And i have killed entire weekend says trading long run time slots.
I need to find a 15k or Half Marathon plan I like. I'm really enjoying Higdon's 10k Intermediate Program.
I'm lifting 2-3 times a week and running 2-3 times a week. I used to run exclusively but I think I wound up with a lot of muscle imbalances (and therefore pain and injuries) as a result. Lifting has helped correct those and has definitely had a positive impact on my running. Find a good program that works for you and go with it.
Wow nice! Are they all local? Can you share any good sources for finding these? I can't seem to find one good site that posts all races.
Yeah all are in or around Atlanta. I find most on RunGeorgia.com Try http://www.runningintheusa.com/race/Default.aspx
2 miles this evening at a very slow, end of the day, after dinner pace of 10:30. At least I didn't just sit on the couch drinking beer.
murdered my 5k personal best this morning with a 24:32. excited about fitness level improving. 5k personal best progression
Yeah, probably a good move on my part. Allergist performed the scratch test, walked out and back in, and said "Holy crap!" Said she had never seen anyone as allergic to all tree pollens as I am and that she can't believe I'm able to breathe, let alone run. While I'll feel better, I'm more excited because this should make running easier and sleeping better. I mean, priorities and whatnot.
Ugh Damn weather warming up. Nipples chafed bad yesterday. Woke up in the middle of the night to one of them bleeding. Then half way through my run this morning the band-aids fell off. Did make me pick up the pace for the last 2 miles.
