I've been giving myself allergy shots for about 5 years now. Started with a weekly shot, then every other week, now I'm at once a month. I've also had two sinus surgeries in the last few years cleaning out/opening up my sinuses. My breathing is much better now though I still breathe through my mouth when running.
Fidelio rv12 didn't realize we had crossfit runner crossover bros itt I do the same thing. after my ultra last year, I've scaled way back. just building back into running the past few months but am doing cf 6 days/week. I think I'm going to focus on fast 5ks while my girlfriend schools me in distance runs.
I started cf in November. I try to get to the gym at least 5 days a week. I'm starting 5/3/1 next week to add onto wods.
Yeah, actually going to do it with one of my coaches. I usually go to class from 6 - 7 am. I'll do the 5/3/1 lift 4x a week (bench, squat, deadlift, and military press) from 7 - 8 am.
our earliest class is 730 so I'm usually pressed to get out of there and into the office. result is that my two-a-days send me back in the evenings. I've usually used that time for skill work or progressions (I am so close to ring muscle ups and it's driving me insane) but a good lifting program might be sensible.
Have been having foot & calf issues... Swapped out my Kinvaras 7s for a size down & problem seems to be solved. REI's return policy In about 6 weeks, I've gone from a near 30 minute 5k to sub 24 minutes... Need to work on my diet & drop weight to get to my goal of <21 minutes by November
4 miles this morning at a 10:25 pace. Humidity swallowed me whole. At least there was a little breeze.
Who lives in NOLA that is on here? Going to be in town next weekend for a Bachelor Party and want to attempt to get out and run 8 miles Saturday morning. Staying at Le Pavillon Hotel. Was just thinking I'd go towards the River and just run by it. Good Idea? Also want to swing by the Louisiana Running Co and get a shirt.
As someone who had been to New Orleans 1 time for two weeks I can honestly say I don't know what I am talking about. But, running there must be beyond miserable Ts&Ps running in that humidity .
You can go down Poydras towards the river until you get to convention center blvd. and then take a left to get over to canal street. You will be right at the riverwalk/aquarium of the americas. From there you can run along the river going north. I have no idea how long of a strech you can run along the river there so i would get on google earth and measure out a path. Looks like you might have to run a 1-2mile loop to get to 8 miles
Or go from that area towards the Garden District and around there and back. It's around 2-3 miles away and you'll get good scenery (but shitty sidewalks).
Did 4 miles today following 2 days of meds. My pace was down 30 sec per mile from my best 4 mile run and matched the pace for my best 2 mile. I somewhat pushed myself, but only to the point where I still felt OK. Best of all was that I wasn't exhausted at the end and felt I could keep going. This breathing stuff is nice.
slogan119 -Asshole- Thanks. Doubt I will get in 8 miles but if a at least get 3+ it should help with my hangover.
Yah. This was my first year doing the Open workouts. Couldn't get through the thrusters 16.5 cuz I was coming off a cold. Wasn't happy about that. I have a stellar playground less than a mile from my place where I run like a maniac. Cold War anti-aircraft missile site is my starting point and extends into the San Fernando valley and Brentwood. Haha http://m.yelp.com/biz/la96c-former-nike-missile-control-site-encino-2
that's absurdly cool this was my first open as well. hated them all obviously but 16.2 was woat. racing through cleans after the t2b. I've rarely walked away from a workout pissed but I left that one in a tizzy.
16.2 was dumb and didn't differentiate the common/amateur crossfitter. Anything that ends under 10 minutes is poorly programmed. I think my best one was 16.4, or whichever one had the DL/wall balls/rows/push-ups. On paper, looked like the worst, but I'm better at endurance vs strength.
Yah for sure. I'm going to work on building up my strength and want to retry the thrusters on my own in a few months. A bunch of members are going to del mar (to watch) for the regional in May, but I'll end up going to Carson for the finals. Want some gear
At the starting line. Holy shit I'm doing this! Thanks for listening to my ramblings. May your runs be light and fast today.
Any of you all in any type of local run club or local meetup running groups? Have surprisingly found a few near me that meet several evenings a week, thinking about checking it out
Congrats on finishing! Finishing (slowly) my half marathon a couple months ago really kicked off my want to start running. That sounds weird but it's the truth.
I've looked at two. They both run 3x per week. Based on the days they run (Sun, Tue, Thu) and my schedule with my kids, I would be able to go about 7x per month. I'm thinking about it.
I get it. I'm already trying to figure out what's next and how to better my time next year. BTW, if anybody ever gets a chance to do The Flying Pig in Cincy, jump at it. It's a great race. A ton of fun and the fan support is awesome.
2 miles pushing my girls. One of them kept saying "daddy go faster". I had to calmly explain that that's as fast as daddy can go.
I feel obnoxious about how much I mention it, but breathing is amazing. I almost enjoy running now, and don't feel wrecked when I finished. I'm also down 30s/mile and am 4 days into meds. Can't wait to see how allergy shots help. Who knew breathing was so important?
Really been increasing my mileage this month. I've done 8, 7, and 6 this week with a 2.5 speed day in there. I'm definitely feeling it; today was rough. I have my annual PT Test in about 2 weeks and then I can really focus on adding distance.
I'll admit I don't push myself on any of my runs anymore, but when pushing my girls it's my legs, not my lungs that's the limiting factor. I'm soon to be 37 and I've been running regularly since the beginning of the year (usually 2-3 miles at a time). When I push myself I hurt so much more afterwards than when I was younger. My feet hurt. My legs hurt. My body hurts. Recovery just takes longer. So instead of running less or enduring soreness afterwards, I just run easy. Pretty much all my runs are at an easy pace. Now I have gotten faster, but I could be much faster if I pushed harder on at least some of my runs. But my goal isn't to get faster. My goal is to just continue running. Getting faster will just be something that gradually happens as a function of continued running. At least that's my plan.
6.5 this morning. Ran in shorts with a brief inside for the first time (Been running in 2-n-1's that have spandex inside). With the aid of some 2toms I found the experience to be enjoyable. Need to get some more of these shorts for the summer.
Did a 5-miler yesterday. Must've seen like 20 fucking lizards. Butterfly was racing me for what seemed like a minute. Trying to be consistent with 3 runs/week now.
You have to enjoy it. If you do, you'll keep at it and will enjoy the health benefits for years. It's up to you to decide what goals are worth the required punishment. Though it sounds like your girls might have an opinion, too.
Good stuff. That's pretty much what I've been doing. But I do push it once every couple weeks just to test my progress. Did a lunch run today which is crazy. Heat index says 95 F. It drizzled a little while I was running which seemed to crank up the humidity right after. 3 miles @ 9:23 pace @ 146 average HR
Rocked my best 2 miles this morning at 19:45, going to work on it the rest of the week and then add the 3rd mile next week. Then it's time to work on the next goal 3 miles in under 30 mins.
Sorry I'm late to the thread and this has prob already been discussed, but where do your guys run and what surface? Street, park, trail, etc?
