Definitely. I'm there next weekend for the FSU game and planning to drive the course to get a feel for it. Also hope to scope out some good restaurants.
Food and alcohol. There's a reason I'm 230 lbs. I have a list of places I've cobbled together to try and get to next weekend, but that depends on the group I'm with to an extent. Here it is: Harvest Restaurant (fried chicken) Mayan Cafe Lilly's Bistro Pat's Steakhouse Wagner's Pharmacy (gameday breakfast) Holy Grale Wild Eggs J. Graham's Cafe
wild eggs is a great breakfast holy grale and mayan are the only ones of those I've had. we enjoyed ceviche as well
Ran an 8K in just over 37 minutes today I'm quite happy with that as someone who generally doesn't run long distances and would much rather just hike instead
At the end if the day I'm a big pussy. I get jealous for some of you guys running sub 8 min miles on + 5 mile runs. I almost throw up a little bit thinking about running at an 8 min mile pace.
Those were the first running shoes I bought at the beginning of the year. I put about 40 miles in them. I hated them. Had ankle issues and constant blister issues. Switched to Asics Nimbus 18 which have been great. I guess it just depends on the runner/foot. I must be in the minority because I've heard many great things about the Hokas.
It's definitely down to the runner, as I've never found a pair of Asics I enjoyed. I'm mostly a Nike & Saucony guy. You had the 2s, if you got them at the beginning of the year... I didn't like how they fit either. But, they actually made several changes on the newer model. They are slightly wider in the toe-box & upgraded the materials, so it's now no-sew to help prevent blistering. These are by no means my favorite shoes, as they're ugly & high stack takes getting used to. However, I rotate my shoes pretty religiously (Kinvera & Pegasus) depending on the workout. I was having a lot of joint & muscle fatigue after longer runs, which forced me to start taking extra rest days. I added these to the rotation to help reduce that & they seem to be thus far
Of course we're down the day I want to brag about 3 miles @ 10:23/mile, including the last two at 10:12 and 10:10.
Damn, that's fast. My girl and I were there today at 2 pm. Great day to run. Did the loop and then turned back the other direction to meet here and run alongside. Got 4.2 miles in. Did you run clockwise or counter?
That's my preferred direction. Fist mile uphill, downhill for another mile and change, then an uphill finish. Eye candy out there tonight?
Almost done with one of those apps that utilizes the couch to 5k program. Just finished the 25 minute/run week earlier today, I am still focusing on just running for that length of time but not booking it. Watch is telling me I run about 2.5 miles, so yeah, slow. Is there a post in this thread or some resource to explain what my next steps should be after reaching the end of the program in two weeks (30 minutes/run)?
couch to 10K, other 10K programs. Big thing is to get a base mileage, and start increasing that. That will get your body used to the rigors of running and help decrease injury. Those should add sprint training, hills and tempo training
We are close. 5-9, and have myself down around 225. At my heaviest I was pushing 260 a few years back. I'm not lean by any means, but I'm muscular. I'd like to get closer to 220 by my 1/2 October 23 and 215 by The Flying Pig in May. I ran this year's pig at 235 at 42 years old. 10 at 11:43 last night, by the way. Jumping in, would love to start mixing in speed work but this time of the year, our local field with a track always something going on and I haven't brought myself to figuring it out in the roads/sidewalks.
Did a 8k race on Saturday came in 3rd for my age group with a time of 45:47. It was a small race. Less than a month away from the Half Marathon . Got to make sure I get my longs runs in the next 3 weekends. Also I am 33 weighing between 195-200 right now. Wanting to get down to 180.
22 at an 8:15 pace.I felt better afterwards than I did when I did 20 at a slower pace a couple weeks ago which was a nice surprise. The first 16 felt pretty easy, the next 4 were a little harder and the final two were killer. But still felt better afterwards than I did when I did 20 at a slower pace a couple weeks ago which was a nice surprise. Doing some hills for the first time tonight, I think they might wreck me.
Because they're my favorite. Long story short, I had horrible shin splints so I got multiple brooks and Asics support styles (adrenaline, gts, etc.). The shin splints got worse. I haphazardly tried a pair of Frees about a year later and had 0 pain. Have been running in them since January and not a single issue of shin pain since. Will that be the case for everyone? Nope but it worked for me.
Are you getting injured ? Comfortable ? If not and they are comfy then great. Pegasus are a good shoe.
2 miles at 9:36 pushing my girls. It's too fucking hot to run at 5:20pm here in Louisiana, but I gotta run when I can.
3 miles at 11:38/mile this AM Had some strange knee pain, so I took it slow. Going to take the weekend off and skip my 3 mile, then get back to it on Tuesday for the last 5 weeks before the Urban Bourbon.
Knee and ankle pain goes along with being bigger runners. It kinda sucks but that's why I wear ankle braces and compression pants.
Anyone run in or tried Newtons? A girl I know works for them and sent me a pair for free. I had always run in Brooks but I am digging the light weight/thin soles. Now that I am used to them, my Brooks feel like I am running in cinder blocks.
Yea I run in Newtons. They're what I liked best at the store. I love lightweight tops. They were without a doubt the ugliest choice but hey, they feel good.
3.2 in 35:25 but had to quit because sunscreen was blinding me. Shit was in my eyes so bad I couldn't keep my eyes open.
