Thinking of getting the new Nike+ Apple Watch. Looks amazing for running and swimming. Going to sign up for a sprint tri soon to force myself to start swimming more.
I could see myself getting into triathlons. Maybe. Went for a swim in ocean after a run last week and enjoyed it even though water was a bit rough. Going to do that at least once a week.
Yes I have! I love it. I'm registered for a couple races too... in Oct, Nov, and Jan. Will share here as it gets closer.
I'll be getting one. I held out on an Apple Watch bc of no Gps. Love my Garmin vivoactive I've been using. Looking forward to not having to take my phone on runs.
dont do it! i'm going to focus more on cycling once i'm done with my triathlon in october. just not motivated to do it all anymore.
I think I strained a groin muscle or something. Pretty much hurts from the top of my thigh thru my hip and groin and up into my abdomen on my left side. I'm going to try to run thru it tomorrow. Anyone had this?
Could be a tight hip flexor also. Had a chiro do some massgae stretch that made me want to murder him. Here are some stretches for it: http://www.stack.com/a/4-hip-flexor-stretches-to-relieve-tight-hips
Joined a Yoga studio in lieu of getting a massage every 3-4 weeks. I'm terrible, but think the benefits of varied workouts, stretching & improved flexibility will outweigh massage.
Shitty run tonight. Humidity, uncomfortable stomach crap, not well rested nor smartly fueled. Stopped and walked home after three miles.
App said I ran just over a 7 min interval. I was like, what? No way. forgot I changed it over to kilometers yesterday to see how close I'm getting to 5k. 3.56 today. getting there.
Ready for the 5-week push until the half. Drove the course this weekend, and it's much steeper hills than expected. Going to incorporate some hill training because they are steep and don't start until mile 5 or so, and run through mile 8. Just laughed as I drove the neighborhood, knowing I was fucked. Iron Mickey - might want to warn your girl. Beautiful course, but them hills are not to be fucked with.
I demoed it on Friday and hated FWIW. Too small, I think on a long run it would be hard to use during and I have my doubts about its accuracy.
Ran a half yesterday at 7:52 pace. Was feeling pretty good after a shitty tempo run on Thursday. Really great run around Lake Union in Seattle but I think I could have been closer to 7:45 a mile without the hills. They killed me.
Was this a race or just a fun/training run? Do you have a half PR? I have a tentative goal of a sub-8min pace for my half in November. So 7:59 or run the half in 1:44. Not too confident yet but still have two months to go for training. cool site: http://www.runningforfitness.org/calc/racepaces/rp 10k PR this year is 48:41 - This predictor says my half will be 1:47:05 5k PR this year is 22:23 - This predictor says my half will be 1.42.27
Just training, but this was my PR. Im running a marathon Nov 6th and my goal for that is 3:30. We will see if I get there. I think if you train hard enough and smart enough you could get 1:44.
Check out Functional Range Conditioning. Improving your strength and active ranges will make a lot of aches and pains go away.
Good looking out-- thanks. She's way out of my league with her paces (last half was under 100 minutes), but I'll let her know what she's got on her plate. We'll have to exchange numbers or awkward physical descriptions because I can't walk around with a Iron Mickey sign made from a beer case like last time I hunted down TMBers.
Awesome goal! Will this be your first marathon? I'd have to think if you did 7:52 pace in a half in training... you'd be faster in a race. 8:00 pace for an entire 26.2 is pretty badass good luck I think for my first full my goal will be sub 4 hour (9:06 pace)
The biggest size, whatever that is. It will be, it will be my first race that I have ever trained for. Ive done some 8ks and 10ks but I just got off the couch for those, so I am pretty excited about this.
Get to run Central Park tomorrow morning. Hoping to do the loop in under 48. Only good thing about traveling for work is getting great places to run. Was able to do Golden Gate Park last month.
7 tonight @ 9:15. Ran it pretty smooth, feeling a speed and form improvement every week over the last couple of months. The weather drop here in Michigan during the nights has been great. 10 Miles tomorrow, day off, 19 on Thursday, day off, 7 on Saturday. Fecta23 good luck in November for your marathon. Didn't realize this is your first one as well. With the times you are running, going out and running anything under 4 hours is impressive. My goal is to run under 5 hours, ideal an average of 11:00 min miles (4:46). Really I just want to finish, but it is cool to see a couple other guys on here gearing up for marathons over the next couple months.
I'm in Artoo 's boat, I just want to do my first 5k. You guys are maniacs and I respect the undoubtedly long stretch of miles laid out behind you that got you to the point you all are today.
Looking at what these guys are doing, I'm not sure where I'll ever find time to run that long and far!
Did some 30/60s last night for about 50 minutes. Felt great. Running for 60 minutes tonight, gonna see if I can keep a 9min pace.
These two posts gave me the motivation to get out and run this morning. Didn't feel like it but you guys got me to get up and run.
Went for a short run this AM, 2 miles. Had no desire whatsoever to go out, so i limited it to that. Going to swap out my 3 mile runs over the next few weeks for hill intervals. Somewhere from 5-8, depending upon distance. I need to keep some distance, but seeing the course really shocked me.
3.5 in about 27. I didn't feel like running this morning. I overslept woke up at 9 and it was already (for me) hot as fuck (79-80). At the 3.5 mile mark everything went down hill so I just stopped and walked home. Still thanks to Artoo and PeterGriffin I got out there and ran. I'll tell you two guys, IMO the hardest worst part of running is starting. Either a run or to start running in general. Waking up at 6 in the morning to go run six or seven miles sucks ass. But, the alternative (not running) is worse. That being said once you get over the start running is great. Half a mile or so in once I am lost in my thoughts it is great. I tell everyone who is just starting out to start by walking. After you can walk briskly for about an hour straight then start running. Also if you don't start cycling also. These two things will help build up your cardio with low impact thus a lower chance of injury.
The hardest part for me is remembering to start the god damn Workout on my watch, I want to learn from my stats. Took me 2 minutes in to remember to start it. A smidge over 3 in 28 minutes, one more 28'er on Thursday and then I graduate to the 10k app.
Did some speed work last night: 1 Mile Warm Up 3x800 at 5k pace with 1 minutes standing rest in between 5x 400 at mile pace with a minute standing rest in between 5x400 at mile pace jogging a lap in between 6x200 at 90 percent effort with jogging 200 in between. Felt great. It is crazy what even one of these workouts a week can do to help your VO2 max and speed.
I don't measure it ( yet) so I don't know what my max is. But VO2 just measures how effectively you can use oxygen, the higher it is the harder you can go without getting short of breath. It will help your speed a lot on your intermediate to long runs. The best way to increase it is with short, hard workouts with some short rest in between.
Bought 3 pairs of thorlos running socks last night. Went to big five and asked the salesman "where are your running socks" idiot tells me "well here are our socks and you can use any type of sock to run in" my wife almost busted out laughing when she saw me give him the what the fuck face. She found them and says here they are. The guy was like oh we have actual running socks.
Do you guys ever run with your dog(s)? I have a bull terrier with all the energy, but I don't know, never tried it.
4.5 at about 10:30. Whatever I twinged in my groin seems to be working itself out; I can still feel a pinch sometimes but it's not impacting my runs.
I have seen some people do it. Most of them have the leash connected to some type of belt. I have taken my dog (Lab/Dachshund mix) on a mile jog. She is full of energy but around the mile mark she will get tired and want to start sniffing everything.
My dogs are small and couldn't handle it. I have read a few good stories about Shelters letting people come and take the dogs on runs.
At my peak I was logging about 30 miles a week. I started to cut back to focus on lifting more and ended up entirely falling off the wagon. I'm about 10 lbs over where I want to be now and I'm trying to get back into it but I've really lost the love for it being as out of shape as I am. I used to always talk about how great running is and how good it makes you feel but having lost all the fitness I built up over 4-5 years I totally get how it's hard for people to get into. My family does a 5k turkey trot every thanksgiving morning and I've set a goal for myself to run it at an 8:30 pace. It was tough to be realistic in setting a goal as someone who used to regularly break 20 minutes but I'm ready to get back into it again.
