Finally feels like I'm out of the woods with my calves. They were all screwed up (I think I might have had some form of compartment syndrome) and I didn't think I'd ever be fully back. PT with a heavy dose of Graston did wonders. Changing my running style to be less reliant on my calves is going a long way too.
Arm strap. Did the pocket and held both got cumbersome after a few miles can't imagine running 13 like that
Thanks guys. Pocket and hand haven't worked for me so may try strap. Although I am intrigued by the tight shorts idea... But really I kinda like being away from the phone for a while. I don't want to get a text or email or something while I'm out there and fuck up my zone. It is nice for these fancy mileage track things you guys do though
I put my phone on "Do Not Disturb". There is nothing more frustrating when my podcast or music stops playing in the middle of a run. Then I have to slow down and restart podcast/music, yell at person who called, etc. etc.
Haven't ran since Saturday. Been too fucking hot. Take my hat off to you guys that run in weather like this. Hopefully it will cool down tonight.
4 in 32:42 so about 8:10 a mile pace. It is amazing how working out becomes a part of you. The difference in how I felt before (totally like shit) to after the run (great) was awesome. Not working out for two days had me feeling like crap.
Started C25K week five yesterday. It's starting to become easier, I've definitely been motivated, especially when before each week that workout seems out of reach but I finish it. Had to deal with a couple of weeks in the 90s which sucked. I swear I never dealt with this UNTIL I started the running, but my nose seems to be stuffed consistently haha
For those of you who are starting and having issues breathing, see an allergist. It made a world of difference for me.
Once I get the Apple Watch 2 I won't need to carry the phone. Will finally be great to have tunes and Gps on my run.
5 miles at 11:05/mile Felt fucking great. Everything was loose, no pain anywhere, breathing was great, weather was col and overcast. Hope it feels this good race day.
I think you can select/change songs on the watch but you would have to have the phone on you. I never listen to music when running so i cant really comment on music stuff.
Not pushing kids. A little less humid and tried to pick up the pace a bit. I really don't push myself at all on my runs. My overall goal is to just keep running. I wish i could run longer like you but i just dont have the time and i like to keep my workouts realistic. If i can run 2 miles 3 out of 5 workdays and then at least 1 longer day on the weekend 3-4 miles then that's perfect for me.
4.1 @ 10:19. 360 elevation gain in four miles. That's my neighborhood. Had to wait out the storms but was rewarded with cool weather. My wife's half is in a week and a half so she gets precedent on long runs this week with limited weather windows. That means I'm probably not getting a long in until Saturday but I'll only need eight to get my 20 in.
Damn so as I said Im on week 5 of C25K. 2/3 of the days done this week, just looked at Day 3 damn it really escalated. Week 5, Day 1: Run 5, Walk 3, Run 5, Walk 3, Run 5. Day Two: Run 8, Walk 5, Run 8 Day Three...Run 20 (2 miles), no walking. This should be interesting haha
It was like 65 degrees for today's, coldest I've ran since I lived in VA, and the third day in a row of running (3mi Tu, 4mi We, 4mi Th) so I assumed it was gonna be tough. Instead, turned in 8:40/per with negative splits almost the whole way and my last mile (almost all uphill) at 8:22, finishing strong. I'm surprised at what the body can put up with and do without very much discomfort. Sunday's 6 mile will be the true test though.
Lower temperatures can go a long way with decreasing time and improving distance. Good luck on Sunday.
3 miles @ 11:09/mile Felt tight and tired all run, nothing like yesterday. Whatever. 10 miles on Sat coming up.
Slept in this morning with the day off and missed the run this morning. Ran around 2 this afternoon, hate running in the middle of the day. Should have just waited until tonight. Ran a couple of hills though.
2 miles at 9:06 pushing my girls. Cold front came through last night and it feels great. Well not great but much better than summertime in south louisiana.
What do you guys do on "off days"? I do yoga occasionally. What about icing knees or anything like that if sore?
going to do last day of week 6 tomorrow, it's Run 22 minutes, full stop. pretty much everyone just says go as slow as you have to but dont walk. I did the first two legs of week 5 and week 6 twice to ramp up for each week ender.
Off as in not running or off as in do nothing? If you mean do nothing rest days then just that I do nothing except let my body recover. On days I just don't run I either bike or do gym workouts mixtures of HIIT, Plyo and strength training. Lots of stretching too. I try and do something 6 days a week.
Got in 15 miles on the bike then went for a mile run, just to get a feeling of transitions. Nothing really worked right at first, Im sure i looked like Forrest Gump braking out of leg braces.
Play a lot of soccer and basketball. Do a lot of stretching at night. I eat and drink too much to have more than 1 off day a week.
Some strength training on days off. But I try to keep a day or two of rest in there. Oh, and I drink bourbon.
Brick workouts I hate them and love them. Last one I did 22 bike and 3 running. Tonight 4.2 in 33:34.
Scaled long run distance back a bit today. 20 miler next week. I ran by myself this morning and cut way down on rest time. Hit all my usual water stops but drank quick and kept moving without stopping the watch. Trying to do things a little closer to what I'll do in a race. Didn't carry water bottle. Ate only 230 calories in gel/bloks during run, less than normal. Carried my phone, gel, bloks using belt which is a great belt. Don't even notice I'm wearing it. It's the black version of this. Holds iPhone6 plus food just fine: Amazon link won't fucking work. It's $9.33 on Amazon - "Running Belt Waist Pack,EOTW Workout Belt Waist Bag Exercise Band Fitness Pouch Universal Sports Waistband For iPhone 7 6S 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 S5 S6 Edge Plus Reflective Transparent Touch Screen" 14.02 miles, 2:08:11 time, 9:09 pace.
whoa I didn't realize I had went up so much this month. so much for gradually increasing, which I had been doing pretty well. probably should slow it down a little over the next couple weeks and keep it in the 100-120 range for Oct. Month Miles Jan-16 3.46 Feb-16 55.88 Mar-16 66.44 Apr-16 79.53 May-16 82.86 Jun-16 88.44 Jul-16 96.91 Aug-16 101.56 Sep-16 131.44
That's one thing I haven't done yet it interval speed work. Have you done any races since the Wrightsville 26.2? I'm doing a full soon. My first. Any tips you can share?
I just did my first attempt at interval training today. I did 4x400 sprints today and was fucking dead by the last one, much more like a desperate painful slow jog rather than a sprint. Is this normal? Did my first two in 3:15 before screwing up the last two.
maybe recover better in between? I thought the main goal with intervals is to perform at a high level (for you) during the speed part and the recovery doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you recover enough
3 miles at 9:03 average pace 1st mile 8:47 2nd mile 8:59 3rd mile 9:23 ideal temp for a run this morning. Right around 60 degrees.
