Logged just over 200 miles in September. I feel surprisingly fresh and I am a week away from starting my taper.
Pushed my long run from this AM to tomorrow due to weather. Slept in for the first time in a while. It was glorious. Ready for a day of football, followed by 10 miles in the AM.
Did my long run today because I am weak and the call of the Saturday Ale's is too skrong. 8 in 1:05. If I can keep this pace I should be able to finish my half in less than 2 hours. If I do I'll sign up for the LA marathon in march. Now time to sit in front of the tv all day.
12 miles at 10:57. 735 total elevation. After 7 beers and a lot of crap last night. I was surprised myself. Three weeks until the half.
Bitched out a couple days ago with my long run. It has been raining here over the last 3 days. Seems like the theme of the day, weather broke up a bit and I finally went on my long run. Knocked out 21 miles. It was a perfect day to run, mentally I was all in and I was well prepared with water and food. Ran it 3:47 at 10:50 a mile. Last 3 miles were all will power. Now I can relax, have a beer and watch my Wolverines while I soak my ankles in a bucket of ice. Happy running everyone, enjoy a great sports weekend.
I wasn't going to go this morning. Waking up at 6:15 on Saturday to go run kinda sucks. But, I realized how close mine is and I just can't put off the miles. At least I know now I got them in and don't have to worry about them tomorrow. Oktoberfest and pretzels oh yeah let's undo all the hard work.
Ready for the cool weather. Running in this Florida heat and humidity is hell. its finally below 90 so it's cool. Ha
No no races yet I'm doing a 5k next Saturday I think, hoping to break 20mins Then a 5 miler on Thanksgiving When's the marathon again? I know I regret not running more miles, I only got around 30ish miles a week for the 2nd Marathon training. I should have been in the 45-50 miles per week range :/ Don't be too concerned about your time in your first imo. It's awesome just to finish that one! A lot of people start faster than they should because of the adrenaline then crash hard at the wall, so don't do that!
My favorite part of distance running is when you're feeling yourself start to fade and you see a bright light and hear all your ancestors calling your name and then just the right song comes on and your adrenaline hits you in some combination of the "rage against the dying of the light" and the speech from the Battle of Pelenor Fields and you just start to fly.
10 miles at approx 12 min/mile Why approximately, you ask? Because my fucking Apple Watch decided to stop tracking at 6.22 miles. Legs felt good, but got cramps after my water break at mile 8. I had to walk some on mile 9 as a result. Mile 10 felt good, but my legs were a bit stiff from walking on mile 9. 12 next week then a quick taper, then it's on to the half.
Work schedule changed a bit last week, leaving the house at 6:15 so I didn't run at all Mon-Fri. Got my miles in yesterday and today. Might be just a weekend warrior for the next few weeks.
So did the 6 miler yesterday, wasn't too bad. 9:08 pace, was just a little mindfuck running for just shy of 55 minutes when I was dying on 8 minute runs a month or two ago.
My goal is to qualify in May at the Eugene Marathon. But right now I am not even close. It takes a 7:05 per mile for my age group and I think when I run my marathon in November my best case is 7:44 per mile. Which, dont get me wrong I am very happy with after only running for a short amount of time, but I am wondering how much are "newb" gains. I imagine that once I reach a certain point my gains will become a lot smaller and take longer. I think by May its possible, but not likely.
3 in 23:37 so about 7:50 a mile. Was a horrible run although the time was pretty good. Just still dealing with the Oktoberfests and shit eating from Saturday.
Now that I'm into this, I'm dreading the winter months when it's cold a storm hell and have to run inside on a treadmill.
I play more basketball in the winter on the really cold shitty days. Great for cardio, but the last few winters here haven't been that bad.
I wanted a deliberate slow pace tonight so I went out and do 4 at 11:56 with my wife and 10-year-old. That's her pace, not his. He kept running ahead. After tonight, he and I are going to do a 5K together Saturday evening. The kid needs a fifth grade cross country team.
Did 8 miles on Sunday and have a 10 mile race on Thursday. I went out just to do a maintenance run today but my legs just died after about 1.5 miles at a shit pace. Legs and hands are both shaky. I'm hoping this is just a bad day and Thursday goes well.
You will great on Thursday. That is plenty of time to recover. If 8 is pushing it for you, then it makes sense you were dead today.
Quick question for those that might know more. I found out I have a normal arch and supinate. I have a fairly new pair of Kayano 22s. Do you guys think that they might cause me pain or hurt my running somehow? I picked up a pair of new balance 990v4s.i currently have 3 pair of running shoes that I've spent almost $500 for and 2 pairs I might not be able to use.
Hey guys I signed up to raise money for the aspca for the half I am running. Please if you can donate to a good cause. I know you guys are runners and animal lovers TIA https://secure.aspca.org/team/daniel-ocean
Ran some shitty intervals last night. Hammy was tight and I think im starting to get a cold. Might take today off to let my hammy get back to 100 percent. I dont want to mess with that.
Fuck, this killed me. Had to put our dog down this AM, but he passed in the car on the way. I'll donate later tonight or tomorrow.
Donated. Ran 9 at 7:10 last night. If my legs are fresh November 6th I have a good feeling about my time.
Fuck that. You gotta run either in shorts with the built in boxers or some dri-fit spandex workout underwear. I have a pair of Dry Dudz and they are my favorite: http://www.drydudz.com/ Also if you start running 10 more consistently invest in some petroleum jelly and take care of your groin area with that before you run.
Compression pants under shorts. Short runs regular gym/basketball shorts. Longer runs running shorts.
Compression pants you'd recommend? I want to start gearing up for the colder runs ahead. Given, Atlanta won't get too bad, but we were victim to a Snowpocalypse once upon a time.
I have been going with Asics compression pants I actually bought these for hockey like 4 years ago, then running shorts over it. Local running store had NIKE running shorts and dry fit Ts 50% off.
I use under armor or Nike ones both are great (these are about 40-50) a pair. I bought some cheap tesla ones from Amazon which are decent and about 10-15. I got shot in the leg a few years back so when I wear the cheaper ones sometimes my leg hurts. With the better ones my legs never hurt. I'd recommend the tesla ones if you don't have any underlying leg (circulation) issues.
8 at a 11 min pace after I swam a couple miles earlier, I am fucking dead. Gonna try to get closer to 10 per mile on Sunday if my legs can recover by then. Definitely have the lungs to do that or faster but legs aren't strong enough yet.
