Completed at about 11:20 pace. Nothing on this thread but I'll take it considering I started 6 weeks ago
My best 1.5 mile time is 10:40 from a few weeks ago but now i keep getting stuck at 11:00 for some reason. Ran my longest distance ever yesterday at 5 miles with 9:18 pace.
I'm on Week 4 of C25K. I know I've made some progress but sometimes it feels like I'd never be able to run 3 miles straight.
I think week 5 is the first LONG run with no walking. I felt this same way and surprised myself when I made it the full 20:00. Definitely know what you're saying. Even now there's a couple times I'm like "damn I should restart this week just to build stamina"
First of all thank you so much for the donation. What I noticed that helped me get faster was I started to count my cadence and started to make my feet hit the ground faster. I tried to shorten my stride but turn my legs "over " faster. What helped me was find music that helped me run to the beat. Stand in place sprinter drills also help you move your feet faster and have helped me. I am running sub 8 min miles that is about 40 seconds to 1 min faster over the last month or so.
20 miles, 3:19:46 time, 9:59 pace. First 10.0 miles @ 10:16 pace. Last 10.02 miles @ 9:42 pace. 79 F and very humid. Those last 4 were very tough for my legs. They tightened up a lot. I'm might be doing too much, I've gone from 14->20 in only 6 weeks and probably should have done 14 a few times, then 16 a few times, etc. *edit* oh yeah, also went over a bridge 10x during this 20 mile run! I guess that has something to do with the tired legs. *edit2* Also ran 6 miles semi-hard two days ago Thursday morning. Should've made that an easy run. Keep remembering all this stuff.
Just killed 4 miles. Left the house at 6:30 and the brisk morning air was beautiful. Felt like I could've run another 2 miles.
3 miles this morning. Half Marathon tomorrow. Need to do some Foam Rolling. Goal is under 2:15:00 tomorrow.
Did a 10k in 51. I was up all night think I might have slept an hour. My wife and daughter were hit by a drunk driver and I think our car was totaled. Have to wait to see what the adjuster tells on Monday. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
8 @ 11:45/mile Was going to go 12, but the week's events drained me mentally and I needed my inhaler as breathing was a struggle after 6 or so. Legs felt good though. 2 weeka until the half.
First 5k today in probably a year 20:09 - 6:26 pace Was shooting for a sub 20 :/ Next one in 3 weeks to get close to my 19:21 PR
I'm not paying RunKeeper for insights, but I can tell you that I'm within 8:45-9:15 pace for 90% of my runs. Second 6 mile tomorrow, not phased anymore. I think I'll do this for two more weeks but I think I can get into the actual training after that. Need to spring for those new shoes between now and then.
Sitting in a NYC hotel four blocks from Central Park about to take a nap. Read this thread and now I feel obligated to go run. Lacing up now.
Thanks for getting me off my ass. 7 miles at 8:18 in light rain around Crntral Park. One of my favorite places to run.
9 miles at 9:40 today. Nice and steady, great temp around low 50's. Completed 35 miles this week, I have 2 more runs next week and than the marathon on Sunday. I am jacked up and excited to go run a PR in distance again; taking 3 days off before 10/16.
Ran in the market to market relay yesterday. First leg was 5.6 miles at 7:40 pace and I felt great. Second leg was 4 miles at 9:00 pace the side ache hit me pretty hard. Anybody here into trail running?
6 at 8:37 with almost completely controlled breathing. Am I unknowingly a secret genetic experiment, raised to be lazy but with powerful latent talents?
Finished in 2:11:18. Glad that I got under my 2:15:00 goal. Last 3 miles were littered with small hills that killed me.
Ran another 26.2 for training yesterday at 8 minutes per. I was at a 7:50 pace until Mile 23 and then my legs died again. My route has a total elevation gain of 800 feet and those hills don't mean much on the 1st or 2nd loop, but on the 3rd and 4th loop they destroy me. My actual race in November is really flat so hopefully my time decreases when I run there.
duddde you shouldn't be doing that. Next Marathon don't run 2 marathons before the race you dont gain anything by running over 20 miles.
I know that is what some people say, but I just dont buy it. A lot of training plans call for you to run a full marathon or more before the race and I think that makes sense. I dont get how your body would be ready to run those additional 6 miles at the same pace you have been running the previous 20 if it has never done it before. The one thing that I do worry about and think is valid, is injuries due to overtraining. So in that respect I get it, but I firmly believe that your body gains something from running the full 26. Maybe for me, the most important part of it is mental as well. Knowing how hard I will be able to push myself on race day so I can run the smartest race possible.
I've never seen a marathon plan call for running a full marathon before, could you link? What's your goal pace for the marathon?
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/128.shtml Goals: In my wildest dreams, but somewhat in the realm of possibility: 7:30 Ill be really happy with 7:45 Ill be happy with anything under 7:55 I wont be mad with anything under 8:05. And not that I am Meb ( or even a competitive runner) but he runs the full distance several times before a race. http://www.active.com/running/articles/should-you-run-the-full-distance-before-a-race
Thanks man. If my body holds up I feel pretty good about, but like you alluded to no promises when running that kinda of distance.
Hell, what about this guy? In October 2005, Karnazes ran 350 miles in northern California. It took him 80 hrs and 44 min, an average pace of 13 minutes per mile. (No, he did not stop to sleep.) In 2006, Karnazes ran 50 marathons in 50 days.
Been neglectful with updates. Daniel Ocean I hope the family is OK. Ran a 5K Saturday night in 28:45. Just 10 seconds behind my freaking 10 year old who I swear was toying with me. More impressively, my wife ran the Queen Bee half that morning and still ran the 5K with us that night in 37. She's a warrior. 4.2 tonight at 10:20. Getting closer slogan119 .
Yes they are both fine. My wife is a little freaked out and after seeing the car I can understand why it was bad. I am just grateful she and my daughter are okay. Thanks for asking.
Fecta23 good link about Meb. One difference it seems is Meb runs his full 26+ mile training runs about 60 seconds slower than race pace. Seems like you push pretty hard treating the training run like a race comparing your goal paces and your training runs below. I think it just shows different training works for different people. Guy at work has a friend who just runs balls out fast every run no matter what, that's just how he trains, and it works for him. I bet what happens is you end up nailing your 7:45 goal come race day, maybe that 7:30! Good luck!
Thanks man. I probably should have pulled back a little in this last run, but im not very smart when it comes to stuff like that. You could say its competitive, but its mostly just me being an idiot. I think once I start running more ill be more confident in my ability to hold back during training a bit and know that when the race comes ill be able to hit my goal.
Just doubled my previous longest run with 10 miles tonight at 9:52. Limting factor seemed to be hydration towards the end there. Going to be really sore also, i can feel it already. Anyone ever deal with high school kids who like to scream out the window at joggers when they drive up behind them? its pretty terrifying and frustrating when they drive off giggling. Makes me want to jog around with pebbles in my hand ready to crack their window.
Couple times in the past year, Aaron Hernandez - chuckled at the idiots and didn't think much of it after that. I suppose if it happened a lot it would be pretty annoying.
3 miles at 10:47/mile First was terrible and I thought about quitting. Second was OK and felt better after I made the turn. Third was one of the best miles I've run recently.
3.4 at around 9:45 with one stop The sprints seem to be helping s little bit. First 5k on 10/28 and I want to get under 30, I think it's doable
You're at a pace to get just under 30 now. Running your first race should provide just enough adrenaline to help keep you under. You may even finish with a couple minutes to spare.
