My last 3 were 180 for my asics and 165 for my new balance. I fucking spent 15 a pair for running socks and I am the kind of guy who won't throw away underwear before they disintegrate.
120 is pretty standard for good running shoes. Anything over that is overkill, not that there is anything wrong with that.
After talking with the clerks at the stores, they are better but not in terms of support or ability to prevent injury. They usually just have better material around the laces or the tongue or something like that. The exception is the support supportive shoes, I think those start at 150.
just signed up for a race, Tun Tavern Ten, http://www.mccscp.com/TunTen "virtual" (you can run it anywhere, yes anywhere) 10k or 10 mi, supports the marines. signed up, get a cool shirt and medal, helps marines all for $35
Get myself Brooks Glycerin size 12 anytime I need shoes. I was a big fan of trying them on in the store and then saving 50 dollars and buying them online
Really enjoying my time off, other than being sick. My knee is thanking me. Going to hit the gym next week for some light weights, then the fun begins with my off-season program.
Don't fret, you're likely still the fastest guy on here! I gotta think you won your age group with that. I would kill for that time, I can only get in the upper 21's when I am feeling perfect.
Just did my first run with the Apple Watch 2 Nike edition. Once I get it configured right, I'll love it. It weighs more than my vivoactive. I didn't get it snug on my wrist like I should have. My Bluetooth headphones couldn't connect to my Watch so I had to still take my phone with me. Once I can get the headphones figured out it will be great. Just need to find the right face for my run that will show pace, distance, etc.
9 Miles at about 11:30 today. I kept having to hack up flem on the first half - I guess I'm not used to the colder weather yet. Most of my splits were pretty decent but I had a few at 12+ that killed it.
Finished my first 5k yesterday, was shooting for under 30. Got 25:36. Funny what happens when you start caring about speed.
Ran the half at 10:01. How do you guys battle nipple chaffing? I automatically start chaffing at mile 6 and have to take off my shirt and strut around in front of the neighborhood.
Ran my half this morning in 2:00:38. 39 seconds slower that I was hoping for. I don't think I'd be ready for LA in march. Will try to do a few 10ks and a couple of halfs next year and then god willing LA in 2018. I am kinda sad that it is over. But am going to run a 10 near Christmas that will be a nice fun distance.
No offense but I would have thought you would have crushed the 2 hour times based off your mile averages. Still a great job.
TBQH not to make excuses I need to train with hills more they killed me and I ran the front half slower than I've trained so I wouldn't burn out. But, I agree with you I am kinda disappointed with my time. I feel good though my legs aren't hurting like I thought they would so that's a positive. At least I got some wicked cool medals.
What type of shirts are you running in? I use Nike or Lulu Lemon running shirts and don't have a problem. I have a few adidas running shirts and my nips are rubbed off by mile 5 if I wear them. They have been relagated to workout shirts. But bandaids are a cheap easy fix.
Feel great after only one day of rest. Will probably get back out there tomorrow or at least do some cycling or cross training. I might not have met my time goal but at least I met my recovery time
Finally got my Apple Watch 2 set like I wanted. I can't remember who was asking for the details. It felt great to run without my phone. Watch played my iTunes to my Bluetooth headphones and tracked my run with pace, distance, etc. Glad I made the purchase.
i use trislide (https://www.sbrsportsinc.com/collections/trislide) or a product (cant remember the name) similar to body glide (https://www.bodyglide.com/shop/body/). i use trislide usually on my neck for my wetsuit and the body glide on my nips.
Think I'm getting it. Have a fitbit watch but need a real tracker for swimming and will enjoy not bringing my phone along on runs.
First marathon completed Sunday - Marine Corps Marathon Both hams and quads cramped up bad around mile 25-26 and I walked for a few minutes. Really sucked. Ran the last 0.2. Overall had great time and have a baseline 26.2 time to beat now and stuff to work on including getting enough salt in my system during that long of a run. Finished in 4:08 for 9:28/mi pace.
2 miles pushing my girls this afternoon at 9:49 pace. I've taken several weeks off unintentionally (busy schedule and being sick) so it was good to get back at it.
Do you want to run another one still? A week after my first one I was like "Never Again". Then after a year off I started getting the bug again.
You ran yours much faster than I did and probably trained better. Maybe that's part of the reason why? *edit* wait, maybe I'm off here. You ran a marathon this year in this thread right? and that's what I was thinking of... but realize now that probably wasn't your first. Yes I definitely want to. Soon as I finished I was thinking about what improvements I need to make to do better next time. I'm registered for the Miami Half in January and considering changing it to the Full. I think the NYC lottery is starting soon so I might as well jump on that.
I just ordered the Nike one. It will be here in about 3 weeks. You mind if I tag you so u can ask you a couple of questions when it arrives?
Not a problem. Just give me my donor banner and access to the donor board from when I donated when the donate to the TMB thread was up. I went with the the silver and white band Nike edition. What band did you get? Still trying to figure out the Nike run club. I've used the activity app on my runs more than the Nike app. You'll love it. Just so nice not to be weighted down with a phone.
I got the Nike edition with the space grey face and black and grey band. The 42 millimeter. I also bought the powerbeat3 headphones. I ended up dropping about $600 so I can run without a phone.
I love the irony, when years ago the prevailing thought was "I wish my phone would do everything so I could take it on my run."
I did 10.5 yesterday. I was realistically more like ten cuz I got lost (new route, most of which is running thru and around farms) and ended up having to walk part of it. About a month until my half.
For our 17th anniversary, the Mrs. and I ran a 5K this morning. 28:34. Getting a little faster. I want a 27:00 5K in 2017.
