Wow awesome! Is your goal to Boston qualify next year? Great stuff watching your training and now a 3:24
Ran the marathon last Sunday Ran local half marathon race today. 1:50, 8:24 pace. Improved just a bit on my 2:28 / 11:19 pace half I did in February!
Thanks man. I was pretty happy with it especially with my hip hurting the entire time Due to overtraining haha.
Thanks man! Yeah it is. I'm planning on signing up for the Eugene Marathon in May and if I train right I think I'll have a shot there. But I miss it I'll look at something in the fall. Kinda funny, the last 4 miles all I could think about was how much it sucked and how stupid it was to pay to do it,but I'll be back for more.
I thought I would run a Marathon once and that would be it. I am already looking at a spring marathon, and possibly and 50 mile ultra come late summer/fall. The New York Marathon was on live this morning, I DVR'd it, will watch sometime tomorrow.
Also, if any of you are not following the "Ginger Runner" on Youtube, you should. The guy puts together great mini docs on his ultra running journey. He produces all his own music for his videos, and his editing skills are on point. Here is his first 100K:
Exciting news this morning, looks like I am having surgery sometime in the next 30 days to repair a torn meniscus. Glad work has slowed down so I can get this addressed and hopefully be back to running by the end of the year.
No problem. Quick question on the watch. How is the battery life and do you wear all day like an activity tracker?
I do wear mine all day. I usually have to charge it every 2-3 days. There's a power saver mood that can extend the battery life but I haven't tried that as I'm not sure what functions it disables.
Does it have a cycling setting? Can you shower with it? Mine is scheduled to arrive on Dec so I kinda want to know if it is worth it.
Yes, the activity app has indoor and outdoor cycle as well as many other activities. It's made to track your swimming also so I'm sure a shower will be ok.
With the sun setting at about 4:30 PM where I live, I have to either run on weekends or go into treadmill mode
Just curious, I live in Michigan and it is getting dark quick. Grew up in Anchorage Alaska, so I was used to the extreme day light change from summer to winter.
It's not that bad for me, but for a couple months I don't see sunlight when i go to work and when I leave It's ok because spring and summer is awesome
Had enough and exchanged the Mizunos for just a newer model of my old Pegasus shoes. They're nice and I definitely sized up. Once I get over this mini-cold, official marathon training starts this coming week.
Spewing of running the dark, I saw on shark tank several weeks back lights that attach to your shoes. Anyone remember those or having anything like them they can recommend?
Speaking of night running. Went out at 10 tonight feeling like seeing what my 1 mile time would be. Haven't tried it since May. Awwww yeah into the 6's... down to 6:39. Date Miles Time Pace 08/09/15 1.00 0:09:25 10/01/15 1.00 0:08:35 11/05/15 1.00 0:08:06 03/09/16 1.00 0:07:30 05/04/16 1.00 0:07:04 11/09/16 1.00 0:06:39
Kinghill, that is really fast. I do probably 50% of my running at night. I like the night time better for a couple reasons. During the summer time it is much cooler, less traffic and I like seeing the moon and the stars.
I love running in the evening. i can eat slightly worse during the day, which for some reason motivates me more to run, and then it's all cathartic to burn off the crap I ate during the day.
people carrying more weight burn more calories. same as a fully loaded tractor/trailer burns more fuel than an empty load. it's amazing to see how much a difference dropping 5%-10% of your body weight can cut back on your caloric burn during excercise even as your intensity & pace speed up.
Know that first hand, went from about 225 to 190 pretty easily over the summer(easy in the sense that I was losing 2+ pounds a week, was working my ass off). Haven't dropped shit in the last 2 months even though I'm doing more, it may have a bit to do with my excessive drinking during football season though.
I want you to know not all of us compare you to a fully loaded tractor trailer like a.tramp. We think you are beautiful.
Not long distance, but I've been pretty consistently running 4-5 miles at lunch a few days a week. Per my timer I had my fastest 3 to 5 mile run Tuesday this week at 8:01 per mile for 4 miles. Unfortunately these wildfires all around chattanooga have made the air quality absolutely terrible, so I've had to miss a few days here and there with allergies/asthma. Will probably attempt another half marathon somewhere in a few months. Eventually would like to do a full at some point.
Just signed up for the Eugene Marathon in May. Pretty excited about it. Im gonna do a better job of sticking to the plan. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/129.shtml Also, im trying to lose 10 lbs if anyone has a good diet or meal plan regimen they can recommend.
7 miles at 10:10 pace. Nice easy run, the leaves are falling, but still a comfortable temp to go run. First mile was a bit cold but after my body warmed up I was good the rest of the way.
Was just able to hit the ghm today for the first time in 3 weeks due to a terrible sinus/lung congestion issue. Thought I was going to die, and didn't really do much. Going to be another week or so before I could consider running again. Ugh.
Finally starting tomorrow. Will see how the new shoes fit. Pretty much over the mini-cold, I can breathe through my nose again.
Signed up to run a 10k on Dec 10th. Should be a nice fun distance. Took a week off after the half which was cool but fuck by Monday of the following week I was feeling horrible and needed to get back to working out. Currently running, cycling and going to the gym. Feels good to not have to get out to because i am training for something but for the love of working out. Plan to run a few 10ks and a couple of halfs next year and another marathon in 2018. Anyone use a fuel belt for marathon training?
They're better than the Mizunos. I tried a new running area since I was at school, I ran 3.5 at 8:06 per but my breathing was getting to me and I sputtered to walking after this huge hill with half a mile to go. Disappointed a bit of course but I'll take the rest day tomorrow to get right. Probably not running this route again though hah.
Running the Kiawah Island Half in December. Longest race I've done is a 10k and the longest run I've done is a 10 miler. I have a hard time getting motivated to run. Am I good on those distances or should I try to get a full 13 in before race day?
You are good but it depends on what you want to do race day. I did one 10 miler before my first half and that was before I could run the whole thing nonstop. So I ran/walked that half. Since then I've run many 13+ mile training runs up to 20 and ran one full 26.2 marathon... I feel so much more comfortable with the 13.1 distance. You should probably run more
I probably should. The plan is to run/walk this half. The real limiting factor is my wife (I run with her), she's in shape but is struggling to break through the 11 minute mile on a run/walk interval even though she does it 4 days a week. I think it's all mental, but have no clue how to help her improve it. It's a struggle for me to run at her pace though, I get so bored.
