I own a P226 .40 S&W, but haven't had it since Thanksgiving. I was in L.A. for 3 months for work and forgot it under my buddy's guest bed. I'm flying out there next month so I'll take a bag to check.

I realized it when I was stocking up on road trip supplies at Ralph's. He was in S.F. for Thanksgiving, I had left his spare key and leasing office was closed for the holiday so I was fucked. I felt bad letting him know because he is afraid of guns big time. Took ten minutes to assure him an unloaded gun in it's case is not going to go off.
Checked out of my hotel in Ft Lauderdale like two weeks ago, got about 20 minutes up 95 when I realized I left it in the nightstand. Called the hotel and hauled ass back to get there before housekeeping got into the room.
Make sure it's a lockable hard case suitcase. I'm about 99.99% sure they won't let you check it in a soft bag. And it has to be combo or keyed locks that the TSA can't open.
Well duh. That forced me to go to the range sunday and shoot off the ammo I had bought down here and hadn't used yet. Still have 50 .223 rounds and 50 .45 rounds.
Anyone ever shoot fiocchi handgun ammo and the charge was too weak to fully cycle the slide? Never had problems with their rifle ammo and I'm pretty positive I've been fine with their 40 in other weapons but that shit just won't cycle my m&p9 Side note, anyone want any fiocchi 9mm ammo?
What if the case itself is hard and lockable? edit: NM. I checked the TSA website and just the case has to be hard-sided and locked.
I'm not sure. I'd go to the website of whatever airline you plan on flying. They may allow a pistol in a hard locked case inside of a regular suit case. Better to check their regulations.
Appreciate all the responses. Looking for something around $500, as for hunting probably duck but I'd like something that would work for both shooting clays and hunting. For reference I live in Northern California and am looking to get into hunting (was going to stop by the hunting thread once it starts up again).

I flew once with a shotgun. It was a pretty simple process. Just declare it to the gate agent, they brought me over to a tsa area where they had me open the case and they swabbed the case for explosive residue (lol), and had me lock it back up then it was tossed on the checked bag conveyor.
I've flown with my AR's 3 times now. Never had them swabbed, just declared to the gate agent, sign a form stating they are unloaded, lock the case up and away they go. Then pick them up in the baggage claim dept (where you claim lost bags, etc).
I'd recommend a remington 870 wingmaster. You can prolly find one for cheap at a pawn shop other choices would be mossberg or benelli, but I personally think everyone should have a remington 870...preferably a wingmaster as their first real shotgun...it will usually be their favorite even after they try others. The questions is do you want a semi-auto or a pump. I'd personally recommend a pump first (plus they are much cheaper). An auto will be >$1000
How about you just give me the M & P and then you don't have to worry about the ammo not cycling through it.
Been a few months since I bought a new 1911 and I've never owned a S&W one. Love the top of the slide and sights, will probably change out the grips.

I spent 5 hours aerating and reseeding my lawn yesterday. Woke up this morning to about 10 birds having breakfast on the seeds. Kopped an 1911 airsoft gun. Don't want to kill the birds. Wish these things were around when I was a kid. My concealed license should be good to go soon, so obviously I'll be upgrading here shortly. Hopefully the birds learn their lesson before The lethal option arrives.

I put a laser/flashlight combo on my p22. I couldn't find a stock holster that could fit it. I got a custom one made by Fist Holsters. They did a great job. I would try them.
