I liked it, didn't love it. No idea what to make of Patti and what she says. She was right about the phone but then she sings Never Gonna Give You Up aka the troll anthem.

laughed my ass off when she started singing that.

i agree though, not really sure what to think about her, but kevin's stick his fingers in his ears and la la la i can't hear you bullshit is getting pretty stale.

I've had this on repeat for weeks now. Iris DeMent - Let the mystery be. Song was recorded years ago but it's remarkable how well it works with themes in show. The intro hits me with the feels every time ...

Hate to retread, but yes, that's what made the last two eps from last season so perfect. I was able to "get" why everyone was so fucked from the event, subsequently followed by an extreme hate for the GR ...

that happened early on. Waynes very last scene was in bathroom stall where he meets Kevin (on his way back from Cairo) and attempts to grant him a wish (to prove to himself he's legit). He tells Kevin "you don't have to say it" and Kevin gets a pensive look on his face, to which Wayne responds "granted" with that weird Holy Wayne grin. Then he croaks and ATFC breaks in ...

So the episode was called No Room at the Inn. There are 9261 residents of Jarden. When Matt leaves Jarden and lets the boy stay the number is assumed to be the same.

this show is all about that tension. on the edge of my seat every episode.

watching matt take care of mary on the constant brink of losing his shit is gut wrenching. i felt uncomfortable during a lot of that episode.

I think the title is more to draw a parallel between Matt and Mary while she's pregnant and Joseph and Mary while she was pregnant with Jesus.

I've read a lot of theories about the significance of 9,261 and that the population of the town has to stay the same but I don't really put any weight into it. At least not yet. The idea that no one is being born or dying in Jarden without a corresponding addition or subtraction from the town is too unbelievable for me.

I absolutely can't disagree that the primary reference is to the manger with Mary and Joseph, but I do think we are getting quite a few breadcrumbs regarding the number 9261...
    • There was the scene where Matt is part of a congregation saying "We are the 9261" when he was not part of the 9261 who originally were verified in Jarden. That felt so weird and misplaced at the time.
    • You have Nora, Kevin, Jill, and the baby appear in town and three girls disappear plus Isaac getting evicted out of the town by John.
    • Now you have the boy take Matt's spot, and initially the boy and his dad taking Mary and Matt's spot.

Random thought, and I am more joking than anything, but for those looking for religious meaning, I guess Lindeloff has taken a stance on whether fetus's have a soul. They all disappeared with their moms and now one enters and doesn't count.

Also, did anyone have the thought that maybe the boy being referenced by Mary and the guy in the visitors center may actually be the boy whose dad died and not the fetus?

Definitely bread crumbs and I agree wholeheartedly that it was weird for Matt to be in the prayer circle, but the logistics of the theory just don't make sense to me.

For every fatal drug overdose, car wreck, hunting accident, etc the universe allows someone from the outside to gain entry in to the town to keep the number at 9,261? And then on the other side for anyone who moves to the town or is born there is someone else killed off or forced to leave? If any of that is true it seems like Jarden would have a history of disappearances or bizarre deaths, but when Evie and co disappear it seems like it's the first time that's happened. And we know that the Garveys are not the first people that have moved there.

On a side note, Matt and Nora's parents did a great job raising them. They are two great human beings.

nothing really new to add, but just can't get over the emotional toll of this show. It's an exhausting 60 minutes every week, but so enjoyable and rare to be impacted in that way by a show - in my mind it's how you can evaluate the quality of a program

It must be a weird having Matt manipulating her body, touching her face/mouth, carrying her, basically moving her in any physical capacity, and doing it all with a lifeless expression and completely limp. I hope she's getting paid as a normal secondary role would be paid ...

Again, such a good season so far. Lot's of niggling things answered last night that were connected to other theories...
    • goat murder was a ritual that occurred right before the departure and carried on as a ritual OCD of protection. Goat did not live.
    • Virgil is either Erika or John's dad and we know how he got the limp presumably
    • Virgil was likely shot by John and that is likely why he was in jail
    • birds come back to life related to a story Erika was told and her wish is believed to be the cause of a potential departure of Evie and friends (would be curious if the other two mom's have similar wishes/conversations)
    • we know who sent the pie
    • we now know why the woman wears the wedding dress
    • numbers painted on the ground are from the visitor audio tour
    • the glass box with the crack was numbered, so the assumption is that there must have been an earthquake on departure day
    • we found out that Erika was clearly not in support of John and his behavior
    • John has an anger/violence issue that predates the departure
    Any others?

    Random thoughts...
    • Loved the rocks thrown and not 100% sure how to read why Nora did it, but I was thinking they both have glass houses and both threw stones at one another's.
    • Gotta love how Matt just took over shanty town
    • last 2 scenes were fantastic...
      • Erika vs. Nora questionnaire (I do want some of those answers)
      • Tom reveal of Patti - loved how we knew from the onset that we were getting her perspective of how he looks when he talks to Patti
    • Jim James song at the beginning and even the Rhianna song were so good.

Another classic Lindeloff. Using the name Azriel, which is not a demon in the bible but represents some of the Kabbalah numerical references out there.

Azriel of Gerona, Azriel ben Menahem was one of the most important kabbalists in the Catalan town of Girona during the thirteenth century when it was an important center of Kabbalah.

    Means "help of God"

Again, it wont mean anything other than adding a layer of texture and cross-reference to the show like he did with Lost.

A couple of other interesting contrasts between season 1 and 2...
    • Matt being asked what denomination last week as a throwback to what he was asked by the casino cashier last year
    • Nora being asked to pay by paypal with the exact same words as last year with Holy Wayne, If you don't, we can set you up."
I would be interested to see if they tried to create some specific mirror image to last years season when it is all said and done.

Just saw this post on reddit, and I totally saw the eyelash and just looked right past it. It's like when you see someone with something on their face and for whatever reason you just don't even think to say anything...

Did anyone else catch during the last conversation between Nora and Erika the whole time there was an eyelash on Nora's cheek. When that happens you are supposed to blow it away and make a wish. The whole time they were talking about wishes! Also when Erika turned the table and started asking the same questions to Nora with her crying - the eyelash was gone. Earlier in the episode the birds in the box were dead. Both of their wishes could no longer come true. Do DPs ever let distracting eyelashes stay on actresses face during an entire face shot monologue???
