Spent some time at the bar on top of the Grand Bohemian on Saturday night. Big fan, ultra smug up there
Home prices are exploding in crestline park right now. A buddy of mine and his wife just close on a 3/2 with about 1100 square feet (on Royal) for over 260k and they think they got a deal on it. I haven't seen even a 2/1 listed for less than 200k in quite a while. It has pretty clearly become the 'it' spot for MB kids to move when they get back from college and the parents that are putting down the down payments on the mortgages just don't seem to care if they're getting ripped off in terms of $/sq ft. Beautiful situation for home owners over here.
For any other bham/high school hoops fans, former Ramsay HS star and UAB player Taurus Dortch died in a fire in his apartment yesterday. Kid was a hell of a high school ball player. I remember watching him dominate the 5A championship game my junior year (2006) and had several great battles against those great John Carroll teams. Had a good freshman year at UAB from what I remember but disappeared after that
I'm doing The Word > WSP Might be more excited for TTB than WSP, if it weren't for the tour news this week.
We sold over there about 9 months ago. I was blown away with how easily it was for us to sell at the price/sq ft. We had 4 offers in about 24 hours. The crazy thing is you had people buying those houses out of foreclosure in the 130's to 150's 5 years ago. We did alright but there are some people that killed it coming out of there.
I've heard that Avondale elementary is pretty high quality. They said its fine to keep your kids enrolled there until about third grade. Apparently, once the kids hit that age they start carrying their home life to school a lot more. This all came from a single conversation I had with a mom who lived down the street from V.Richards.
We were eating dinner with the neighbors and had this exact same conversation. They were talking about their family that lived in Nashville which went through the same type of transition earlier than Birmingham. There were certain areas that you could get away with sending them to the city elementary schools but after that you pretty much had to go private or move to the suburbs. Avonadale is trending that same direction as more people move in there and property values go up.
The information on Avondale Elementary is correct although I would say the kids are pretty much good the whole time they're there. The issue is more the middle and high schools that it feeds into
Yea that is why those people are going to move over the mountain. I didn't realize that it was even an option though to keep kids in Birmingham city schools through elementary school.
I don't check in here very often but when I do I am always looking to see updates from people who've just eaten at Mr. P's Aside from right now obviously. Because I assume it's closed and it'd be foolish to expect anyone to have just eaten there
Shit, I think Homewood is just as bad or worse. My buddy almost bought a fuckin 900 square foot house for like 220k on Oxmoor. I looked at him like he was nuts.
Real estate all over town is high right now because the supply<<<<demand. We're looking right now and not seeing much. Anything that's been decent has been marked up and they're going pretty quick. I'm hoping to get a nice bump in supply as the end of the school year approaches.
Had some filet tips Saturday night. They were great as they always are. Also hitting WSP Saturday night. Can't make the rest because I'm old and such.
no concerts for house swim. just pepper place and maybe some pressure washing of the driveway saturday finished with some grilling out if some good tix come through, may be headed to barber's for the race sunday yay domestication
Tommy from Tuscaloosa got a question right on Jox for free tickets today in the villain or wrestler contest. Unfortunately I was not picked in the drawing
Got an extra ticket for the Word tonight if anybody needs a single. Face value was $30, I'll sell it for $20.

Passengers at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport are about to have one more option for pick-up and drop-off: Uber. Uber has reached an agreement with the airport for both pick-up and drop-off starting at 1 p.m. Friday. Drivers will pick customers up along the arrivals curb on the lower level of the front side of the terminal. As part of the agreement, riders will pay a $1 fee for airport rides. "We're excited to bring travelers more safe, reliable transportation options so visitors and residents can get where they need to go when they arrive in Birmingham," Uber Alabama General Manager Tom Maguire said in a statement. -- ive been dropped off twice, so not sure why that wasnt already included.. maybe no way to stop it, but yay bham wont be embarrassed when visitors land
I'm not sure, but I think the pick up at the airport part was the issue. I've never used it in Bhm to be picked up at the airport, but have been in several cities where pickup at the airport is a sticking point.
A ton of major cities don't have airport pickup for Uber, including Chicago. You can get around it by putting your pin outside the airport and the driver will call you for the specific pickup location.
KC is another city that doesn't have airport pickup. Told me the cops caught on to that tactic and cracked down on it. Glad someone's getting their beak wet here with the surcharge and giving us airport pickup/dropoff.
