What's the best Indian food in town? Was discussing it with some friends and I don't think I've ever had real Indian food and I'd like to give it a fair chance. I generally like spicy/hot things but I don't wanna get my day ruined by some curry or something. Google tells me Taj India, Bayleaf, and Sitar are the spots but I also remember PrinceWimbley mentioned Silver Coin out on Lorna Road in Hoover as being pretty good. Surely we have some serious Indian food fans in here with some recommendations. For restaurants as well as dishes, please.
Ive had the lunch buffet at both Taj and Bayleaf and they were both good. Can't remember what I had. Silver Coin also does buffet, but I usually order off the menu. I like the Chicken Vindaloo which is a spicy dish but you can tell them what level you want it. I can handle "hot" but sometimes just get medium. Get the garlic naan. The chicken saag and lamb saag are good if you like creamed spinach. Ragan Gosh also good for lamb.
The ol lady wants to go watch the big fireworks show, anybody have a recommendation on where to park? TIA
slight chance sat, higher chance sun and monday and MFER WE NEED IT so im watering grass fri and hopefully wont have to for another week
I maybe post in here once every blue moon but every single time Swim is in here bitching about his water bill. Amazing.
The new place on Oxmoor near SOHO has some pretty delicious Indian/Asian food. I can't remember what it's called and google isn't helping, but it used to be a Mexican place.
im on septic, so my water bill is 30 in the winter and 50-60 in the summer even though my usage doubles must suck to pay sewer
you dont have to pump them if they are working normally. we got it checked when we moved in and its fine, unless you see grass dying above it or it backing up, no real need to fuck around with it. i'll get it checked again next year
Haven't bought a ticket yet but before I buy one from Avondale I wanted to check here to see if someone bought one they weren't going to use and I could help a TMB'er out
https://www.gofundme.com/2d5f8jw http://m.tuscaloosanews.com/Section/373/Article/160709817 Tuscaloosa musician injured in Birmingham shooting By Stephanie Taylor Staff Writer Thursday, July 07, 2016 4:10 PM A well-known Tuscaloosa musician was shot in the back in an attempted robbery as he left a music venue in Birmingham early Thursday. Ronnie Lee Gipson, 28, was being treated for the gunshot wound at UAB Hospital in Birmingham and remained hospitalized Thursday. He was shot at 12:49 a.m. while he and his girlfriend were walking to his vehicle after attending a show at Saturn in the Birmingham's Avondale area. A dark Impala pulled up near Gipson and his girlfriend just before 12:50 a.m. Someone inside told the couple to stop moving, or they would be shot. Birmingham Police are investigating the case, but have no suspects, said BPD spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards. By Thursday afternoon, donors to a gofundme.com account had contributed more than $20,000 to help cover medical and living expenses. The Tuscaloosa native is known by some as "Bo" or "Little Bo." "Little Bo has done so much for the music community," said friend and fellow musician Bo Hicks. "If somebody's car is broken down or somebody needs to borrow a bass amp for a show, he's there. That has a lot to do with the outpouring from his friends, with the number of bands he's been in and the number of solids he's done people." Gipson has been involved in the Tuscaloosa music scene since he was a teenager. He plays guitar, bass and drums and is a member of several bands that tour the Southeast, including Bad Cologne, The Golden Monica, Thee Crown Imps, Model Citizen, The Original Snake Charmers and Black Willis Band. "He's really influenced a lot of people. It's important that he's stayed in Tuscaloosa. So many good musicians move out of town, but he's been here and is really owning it. He's made me proud, and is one of those people who is making Tuscaloosa better." Craig "Sweet Dog" Pickering, another friend and fellow musician, was one of several people who visited Gipson at UAB Hospital Thursday. "He was in good spirits," he said. Dozens of people arrived at the hospital early Thursday morning, he said, followed by a steady stream of visitors through the day. "Bo is connected to the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham music communities. Everyone knows him and he's a pretty selfless guy, which is why so many people are showing him support. He's a pivotal figure in the music scene througout the state." Egan's is taking donations for Gipson Friday and Saturday, at the door, and in pitchers placed on the bar. The Druid City Dames' ping-pong tournament scheduled Saturday is donating half its raffle tickets proceeds to the cause.
This is actually not true. There is a treatment you need to put in once or twice a year. You just flush it, but it helps renew the bacteria, etc.
Those little dishwasher lookin cubes? Yeah i put in one every once in a while. Shit is like 5 bucks for a 4 pack
Decent sustained rain. Should last at least a few more hrs. We're in a good swath of moisture until weds. Got .2 or so now Really need a solid inch in the next few days to stem some of this dry shit
Food was ok, service sucked. PTs the original just wasn't going to work in swanky Soho. Tried to get cute with the burgers and fancy with the decor. Ghostbusters 3 tier disgrace to the original.
I grew up on septic and am on it now. I asked my mom about it and she said she never did anything for twenty years she lived in that house except put Rid-X tablets in it monthly. I do remember that the toilets flushed slowly when it rained a whole lot. She never had it pumped out. My house now has one and it was pumped four years ago when I bought it. No clue if it will last, but my neighbor just spent a bunch of money getting a new one. They destroyed his yard. Tree roots tore his up though.
When I bought my house the sellers had it pumped. My realtor said I should get it pumped again in 5 years, which is coming up. Guess I need to do a little research first.
WTF does ADOT have 2 lanes closed on I20/59 btw Arkadelphia and I65. I barely could exit onto I65 S this morning.
Headed to Birmingham this weekend. Any breakfast/lunch/dinner/bar recs would be greatly appreciated. Staying downtown, but will drive/uber wherever.
Most popular places on the weekends these days are the breweries. Good People, Avondale, Cahaba always have a good crowd. Trim Tab for a more low key unique atmosphere. For restaurants and regular bars it really depend on what kind of food you're looking for and price point. Surprisingly large number of really good restaurants for a small "big" city
There used to be a good Google doc with a list. Probably needs updated but I don't remember where it is.
Loving the rain this week, but my grass was already burnt to a crisp. I don't think there is any recovery in sight this season.
Pretty open in terms of types of food. Dont want to break the bank or anything, but willing to spend $50 or so (not including drinks) for a good meal if it's worth it on Friday night. Less than that the rest of the weekend probably.
You going to Sloss Fest SC? Speaking of, anybody know how they handle the two day passes? A friend and I want to split Saturday and Sunday of a 2-day pass, is that possible? Do they do wristbands?
Actually in town for the Wilder fight Saturday night. Depending on the weather, might head down to Sloss Saturday afternoon for a bit though.
and thankfully, the rains of the last 3-4 weeks in bham have staunched the movement of the drought that was coming down from the TN/GA border. still, we need an extra inch or two a week for about a month to get out of it. likely wont happen until winter. and our brothers up fort payne ways just got declared a drought emergency from the USDA... N AL people probably seeing low levels and slow movement on the TN and maybe the coosa. that will take more time to develop because they arent small rivers, but another 2-3 months of that and you'll see it downstream for sure.
For a good (but not crazy expensive) dinner Friday night I would recommend a few places: Bamboo on 2nd- Good ramen and sushi http://www.bambooon2nd.com El Barrio- Mexican, great drinks, great guac/queso http://elbarriobirmingham.com Bottega Cafe- my favorite place to eat, fantastic pizzas http://www.bottegarestaurant.com/cafe/ Bamboo and El Barrio are basically across the street from each other downtown. You are close to some cool bars (Carrigans, Paramount, and my personal favorite The Collins) I second what everyone says about the breweries. I tend to like to be inside so I prefer Trimtab and Cahaba. Good People and Avondale have cool outside seating and are usually pretty happening.
You got Friday night covered. Now Saturday for lunch go to either: Saw's Juke Joint or Saw's Soul Kitchen Post Office Pies Saigon Noodle Avondale Hattie B's 5 Point Oyster House
