Disagree so much. I don't dislike brown but LT and Jimmy America are who make that show great EDIT: rockstar is also a critical component
yep. and we supposed to get rain yesterday but because of the intensity of the storms thurs and the length of them well into early fri a.m they didnt materalize. this now making the rounds on spann's site -- The first thing to note is the the CAPE value this morning was just over 400 joules/kg as compared to 0 on the run yesterday morning. As SPC forecasters mentioned in their latest Day 1 discussion, CAPE projections in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 joules/kg will be possible today. I’ve also noted that the latest observation at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport was running at least 5 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday. Dew point values were also higher but only by a couple of degrees. I know that I underestimated the impact of the thunderstorms that worked over the atmosphere on Thursday afternoon and evening. I do believe that the atmosphere over Central Alabama has recovered from being worked over, so we are likely to see more thunderstorms today – perhaps becoming numerous. Also, and noted by SPC, it looks like the main threat will be damaging thunderstorm wind in the form of microbursts. -- so if youre goin to sloss fest, be mindful. could get hairy.
Had Bogue's for breakfast, going to hit Jazz Hall of Fame and a record store later this morning, then Saw's/Avondale Brews before heading downtown for fight pre-game.
This guy is doing it right. I'm heading over to Seasick Records this morning to pick up some stuff as well.
Congrats SC , you've done Birmingham better than anyone else I remember ever entering this thread. Actually, probably better than most of us ever do at once even. Squeeze some Mr. P's and a trip to Regions Park in there and you're golden.
I always get the burger at Sky Castle because it's awesome. Made it in for brunch today and got the chicken and waffles. Probably best chicken and waffles in the city.
It's not as hip as Seasick. Better, IMO. Seasick, while cool, always feels like there's an Instagram filter on it.
Doesn't get much hipper than Seasick. You can literally get a hipster haircut inside the record store. It's kinda sickening. Charlemagne's selection is better, especially for what I'm typically looking for. But it's also overpriced.
Fucking sucks that his hand is going to hold him back but the current ride of watching him represent this state is amazing
With as many mainstream "metal" bands as exist today I think it would work. Your Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat types could easily lead a hard rock/metal festival. They work everywhere else, no reason it couldnt here.
Renaissance has the best record selection in town it's just hard to get in and out of there easily because the owners are so nice and want to talk to you for about 45 minutes about everything.
They could have a metal festival there, I'm sure. I'm just telling you why Slossfest is not a metal festival.
Yeah it was kind of crazy. I was at uab hospital. One side was rain the other side was not. The sun was shining on the side that was rain as far as I could see towards Sloss.
Friday: Civil Rights Institute: Amazing. Was blown away at how much information and resources they had packed in, and how well they displayed everything. Could have stayed for another hour if I had the time. Church Bombing displays were particularly powerful. Post Office Pies: Cool place. Got the swine pie, really liked it. Good People Brewing: Great beer, Snake Handler in particular. Was surprised it wasn't super busy on a Friday afternoon, but wasn't complaining. El Barrio: Got there about 8:15, girl at the desk said 1.5 hr wait. Stuck around, great beer selection. Really enjoyed the Trimtab Raspberry Berliner Weisse. Found a couple seats at the bar around 9, did chips and queso for an app then the Barbacoa Quesadilla. Really, really good. Worth waiting however long for. Was still a line as we were leaving around 9:45 or so. The Collins: Enjoyed it so much we actually went back Saturday night late. Few different bourbon cocktails, all really good. Cool place, busy but not slammed. Bartenders were great. Saturday: Bouge's: Linebacker plate, sweet roll, massive cups of water and OJ. Perfect Saturday breakfast after a long Friday. Charlemagne's: Great selection of used vinyl. Owner was super nice, had a good music talk waiting in line. Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame: Smaller than I expected, but some cool stuff, lots of good information. Had 9 or 10 kids in the theatre getting free Jazz lessons, which I thought was a great idea. Tour was $2, worth it. Avondale Brewing: Loved this place. Went outside out back for a bit, then back in when it started heating up. Had a flight, then stuck with the Battlefield for the rest of the afternoon. Good crowd. Melt: The girls we were with didn't want Saws (I know), so we ended up across the street at Melt. Perfect mid-afternoon drinking food. Grilled mac and cheese was fantastic. Tried a bit of the Buffalo Chicken, also really good. Nothing fancy, but enjoyed it. Wilder fight: Awesome atmosphere. Seats were four rows from the floor, so great view. Was cool to see a good mix of people there. Old folks, college kids, families, black, white, etc. Place got crazy when Wilder walked out. Birmingham isn't known as a boxing city, but they turned out in spades. Every uber driver Saturday was talking/asking about the fight. Parkside/Hotbox: Uber'ed out there after the fight. Was busy, but not slammed. Had a couple drinks inside, then went out back to grab some food. That burger was the real deal, best thing I had all weekend. The Collins: Ended up back here again. Had a couple of Toronto's, which were really good. Sunday: BBB: Headed out to BBB for breakfast before leaving town. Much bigger than the one in Oxford, sat out on the patio. Had one of the skillets with a side of the grits. Fantastic, as expected.
