Anybody looking for tickets to Jason Isbell/Josh Ritter at Alabama Theatre on Friday September 23? I've got two to sell for face if so.
I'm in the market for a Sturgil Simpson ticket for this Sunday...I'd like to go to the Isbell show too but I'm aggressively saving so I'm not sure I can justify both entertainment expenses that close together...run-on sentence...I'm about to stubhub a Sturgil ticket...
They're back row of the balcony. But I'm sure you've been to the Alabama Theatre before and know that even seats there aren't bad seats. They were purchased for $48.50 each. It's like a $37 ticket with eleven dollars in fees. Ridiculous.
Birmingham cab sliced in half trying to beat train, authorities say A Yellow Cab was sliced in half today when it was struck by a train in southwest Birmingham. The accident happened at Jefferson Avenue and 24th Street S.W. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene at 2:42 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, the cab was destroyed but the driver was up and walking around. BFRS Capt. Bryan Harrell said the driver didn't have any obvious injuries, but transported to the hospital as a precaution. Authorities said there were no injuries to passengers aboard the Amtrak. "It looks like somebody tried to beat the train,'' Harrell said. "He might have gotten out of the car before it got hit." -- #ShouldaUsedUber
A teen charged with capital murder in the 2014 death of a Domino's pizza deliveryman on Monday pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of felony murder. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Stephen Wallace will set a sentencing date for 19-year-old Corey Arrington Jr. at a later time. Arrington could face a sentence of 10 to 99 years. Arrington was charged in the Dec. 21, 2014 death of 63-year-old Domino's delivery man Najeh Masaeid during a robbery. At a preliminary hearing last year a police detective testified that Arrington had told them that he had punched Masaeid twice before Masaeid fell back and struck his head during the robbery. "This case was never a capital murder case," said John Lentine, one of Arrington's attorneys. "This was an unintentional homicide that occurred during a robbery." Lentine said Masaeid's death was accidental and Arrington has always owned up to that. Attorney Chris Daniel also defended Arrington. Arrrington also pleaded guilty to third degree robbery. Whatever sentence he receives for the robbery will run concurrent with the murder sentence. Arrington could have faced a life with out parole or a life with parole sentence if he had been convicted of capital murder in his trial which was to have begun Monday. He could not have faced a death sentence because he was under 18 years old at the time of the crime. Jordan Hosey, Masaeid's daughter, said it was difficult for the family to agree to drop the capital murder charge, but hopes the judge "has the wisdom in his heart" to make the right decision and bring justice to their family. "We just want to be able to heal, to close this chapter, not something to be living through over and over again. ... Hopefully one day we can find it in our hearts to forgive him," she said. Hosey said she wants to hear what Arrington says at his sentencing hearing. "I want to look in his eyes and see how he really feels about it," she said. The third-degree robbery charge related to a previous robbery of another pizza delivery man at the same apartment complex off U.S. 280 - the District at the Summit - where Masaeid died the next month. Arrington told police when the driver arrived at the vacant apartment he punched Masaeid once. Masaeid was knocked down and when he stood back up Arrington said he punched him again. Police testified at a hearing that Arrington told detectives that when Masaeid fell back he hit his head on the concrete ground. Arrington told police that Masaeid was bleeding from the mouth and choking when he turned the body over to get his wallet. Arrington told police he never intended to kill Masaeid.
Sorry if it's be asked/discussed, but whats the word on Cask + Drum this year? Just checked their website and it was still for last year. Remember it taking a while to update last year too, but it'd be about a month out now so seems unlikely?
What's the most significant variable contributing to the lack of precipitation and how is it illustrated in this map?
and also that tropical depression by savannah, since we are on the west side, is pulling moisture into it from alabama. so yay. fuck off mother nature you cunt
I think you're giving them too much credit. They gave what the public openly demanded. And they were very reluctant to do it.
My disdain for the city council has grown so great that I'm rapidly approaching a cross roads. Either become active in local politics (not as a canidate) or move out of bham proper...either way I feel like it's time to quit bitching and do something.

Paul Gattis | [email protected] More than three-fourths of Alabama is now dealing with at least abnormally dry conditions from a lack of rainfall, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. That percentage is the highest in more than four years. All but one of Alabama's 67 counties – Lawrence County in north Alabama is the exception -- has at least part of its area classified in ranges from "abnormally dry" to "extreme drought." Altogether, the drought monitor said 77.09 percent of Alabama is affected to some degree by dry conditions. That percentage jumped almost 24 percent from last week. While north Alabama has been dealing with dry conditions and different levels of drought throughout the summer, the southern third of the state has largely been immune to the dry conditions. Of that 77 percent affected by the dry weather, about 44 percent is classified as "abnormally dry." The state also saw percentage increases, however, in three other drought levels as well. Jackson County continues to feel the brunt of the dry weather, remaining as it has for much of the summer under "extreme drought conditions." The extreme northern part of DeKalb is under "extreme drought as well." Parts of east Alabama along the Georgia border is classified as "severe drought" along with St. Clair, Shelby, Blount and Jefferson counties in the central part of the state and Lamar County on the Mississippi border.
I don't much either as when I need a weather update I just turn to unanimously beloved and adored super meteorologist and national celebrity James Spann. But Swim's posting bumps the thread regularly and I'm cool with that. The way I see it there's only so much noteworthy stuff going on around here that we might as well get some weather in the mix.
Team keep the weather reports coming. They are informative don't happen all that often and you can scroll past it if you really want to.
Been meaning to ask this in here. What do people have to say about Hickory Tavern at Brookwood Village? Only been there once with user Deuce for lunch and thought it was a pretty solid option if you're looking for a sports bar in that area. Haven't been back though. Drove past last night and noticed a pretty good sized crowd in there for the football games. Anyone ever been for games or anything? Good drink specials or anything?
Specials aren't that great are they? I went when it first opened and I remember it being a little expensive for sitting for like 4 hours watching NFL BAM sports grille in Cahaba Heights is pretty nice. Smaller but lots of tvs and the food is pretty good. Not sure about any specials there though
I feel like the bar at Saw's is a solid place to watch a game. Depending on the weather and the game, so is Otey's. And Mafioza's is great for NFL: Sunday ticket, free wifi, 1/2 off draft beers, and 1/2 off appetizers.
Yes I found it to be a bit expensive for what it is, but there isn't another bar with that good of a TV set up near it. On Tap in Lakeview is a shit hole. Moe's doesn't have the TVs and plays music on Thursdays and I don't want to drive any further than Brookwood.
KBHM was about 1 inch under in august, and now its september and airport hasnt even reported a half an inch all month
I would love something great in crestline park but we also just need good sports bars in general. Birmingham is severely lacking.
I'm not sure why but I always forget that Mafiaozas exists. Didn't know they do Sunday ticket. Otey's and Saw's are decent but the TV situation isn't ideal (and I realize how picky that sounds). I also think both of those are on the small side and tend to get crowded. Edit: also a distinct lack of drink specials in bham. That really sucked when I first got here after being in Tuscaloosa for so long
I too was at Hickory Tavern, I could see like 40 TVs from where I was sitting. Food was fine and beer was beer. Would go back
I like Hickory Tavern. Can't beat the TV setup. Get the chicken fingers tossed in honey-bee sting sauce. I go to BAM a good bit because I am close, but the food is a bit overpriced. Also, they always play country music instead of the TVs which is annoying. Definitely a lot more family oriented in there as well. They have a great happy hour from 3:00-6:00, but besides that, nothing to speak of.
Need a place like this, IMO https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaur...Maplewood-Maplewood_Saint_Louis_Missouri.html Loved that bar.
I like Hickory Tavern but beer prices making sitting there for 3-4 hours painful. I think I had like 6-7 beers and chicken fingers a couple weeks ago and it was 80 bucks after tip.
