okay kids that's enough. the nice thing about this thread is that we all have shitty tastes in music, remember?
Anyone here listen to Gang of Youths? Cats outta Sydney. Their debut "The Positions" was one of my favorites of 2015. The lead singer has one of the best voices out there They're also wild talented and do the best lcd soundsystem cover you'll ever hear
what are the best new hip hop albums? or is there a seperate thread for that? I'm looking for good hip hop and rock to get me pumped in the gym. currently tired of everything i have.
if it helps at all I like Wale, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne (I know that will get hated on), Nitorious BIG. On spotify, I went to browse, then hip hop, trying to get something good to run to, and it played nothing but terrible music like Beyonce and other horrible stuff. Not that I'm surprised, but thought maybe something good would come on.
Good rock to get you pumped? Thee Oh Sees Toe Cutter Thumb Buster and Withered Hand are songs for you
I cannot lift to thee oh sees for some reason. I'm listening to Mick Jenkins right now and that isn't even doing the trick
Isaiah Rashad's new LP is really great too. It's mostly about his battle with depression/alcohol/drugs though so there aren't many bangers
Here's a new track for you all to hate from DC's finest three chord buttrockers: New record in January. Get excited.
not an original work or anything but maybe some desk jockey 9-5ers that listen to music all day may enjoy it. buddy does mixes on soundcloud. the one he's been doing this summer is pretty chill. apologies if this isn't the thread's forte
Not a huge fan of Animal Collective's entire oeuvre but this song/video are GOAT tier IMO and put on full screen for best experience
Cloud Nothings new song and record http://consequenceofsound.net/2016/...m-life-without-sound-share-modern-act-listen/
Haven't listened to this album in way too long and been blasting it all night after seeing they were playing in Nashville in a couple weeks
first impression on young thug was that all the songs sounded the same, it didn't have a ton of energy, it wasn't innovative really in any way, that is flow is technically good, but it didn't move me. will continue to listen. might be that it's better car music than gym music
Curious cause I genuinely don't know. What makes that rap unique enough to feel the need to post it here? Again not trying to start the Bob Diver, 3 cord punk and Jimmy eat World War 4 on Drugs. Is it something one would never hear on maybe the radio? Do youngsters even listen to the radio anymore? What's the characteristic I am missing? I don't hate rap just doesn't appeal to me any longer. I am old.
though if we're being frank he asked for stuff to lift to - I wasn't gonna post arthouse rap. that stuff is still "unique" and not top 40 hip hop though
I admitted my deficiency, I am not in the rap game at all. I respect rap and realize people enjoy it and I am happy for them. I am asking what makes the rap in here that is posted more unique than say Birdman or whatever. Gotcha now that you are posting unique rap and saying arthouse rap exists. Genuinely never knew that existed or was a thing.
I think it was a legit question. It seemed like he was curious what was special about the songs you posted. Don't think he was bashing them, but actually intrigued. Idk though.
Local Natives was unreal last night. Line was super long for my low fat chai mocha frap w/ triple whip tho.
it's just like any other kind of music. there's pop-oriented stuff and there's more obscure stuff that generally doesn't find its way to radio. what I posted still falls into the latter category but is still not avant garde or anything like that
I have dug into the Okkervil River album the past few days and it is really great. I will add that to my list of top albums for the year.
I was never a big Bon Iver fan until I saw his ACL episode, and then I got sad when he basically said bon over was done. I had a shot to see him open for Wilco in 2008, but missed it. After a couple of weeks, I think that album is awesome as a whole. I even got over his auto tune. I will be arriving in Brooklyn in 2 months to see him. Hope to see you there.
