Forces you to be social. Don't have to please multiple people and can do your own thing. Just the freedom of doing what you want.
I've only traveled overseas once with a friend. Other 2 times I went alone and had a blast, especially in Europe. You meet so many people it's not like you're traveling alone really. Except if you want to be lazy one day you can without pissing off your group. Or you can go do something you really want to do that the rest of your group might not want to do.
Love it. But would only want to do it at a hostel, think it may be tougher to meet ppl at a hotel or something else. Hostels breed a communal atmosphere.
Oh definitely in a hostel, not a hotel. Although I didn't see the need to stay in a hostel in Phuket. Everyone is partying and hanging out in the same places there so it was still easy to meet folks (and i had a private place to take ol girl from Bulgaria back to )
Meeting people from all over the world is probably my favorite part of traveling. Hostels make this part even easier which is why I love them.
And yall feel this is safe pretty much? I feel like if I told my friends/family/work I was going to travel alone in another country they'd say I was gonna get murdered
My mom kinda freaked out when I said I was staying in hostels, but she had just seen that movie. But yes I felt completely safe the entire time.
Cuba looks pretty awesome: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/unseen-cub...phs-reveal-islands-spectacular-beauty-1501542
Do it. Last year I finished a job at the end of June and was scheduled to start a new one first week in August. I was going to initially just "hang out and enjoy summer" but said f that in mid-June and booked 10 days in Europe, 4 days in Cabo, 3 days in Sonoma County, a wedding in Toronto, and a weekend home to visit my parents all in July and literally was at my apartment maybe 2 days the whole month. Probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Traveling with zero stress of a job hanging over your head is unreal. Now it's a pain in the ass just to get a long weekend, and it'll probably be a while, given the new job, to step away for 2+ weeks.
Before my trip to Thailand and Cambodia all i kept hearing from people was how dangerous it was and to watch my back, dont eat the food and all that other bullshit. Not once did i ever feel unsafe or get food poisoning from eating shit. Then again I was traveling with a bunch of dudes so that couldve helped, but still, there were plenty enough people traveling alone. I will say though, traveling with them as fun as it was, makes me want to travel solo. Like you said, freedom to do, eat, and see what you want. Also, apparently its pretty easy to find travel partners over there. I met some really cute chick from California that asked if i wanted to travel together and take the bus from Siem Reap to Bangkok but I already had a flight booked the next day. Regrets i tell you... and mind you I was only traveling for 10 days.
doing it this year and I'm stoked. i feel safer alone than I would with a girlfriend/wife or with a drunk/obnoxious friend.
One dude from our hostel in Belgrade got blackout drunk the first night we all went out. Like to the point he puked in one cab and got kicked out, some other folks from the hostel got him into another cab (after paying the first one like 50 bucks for the puke) and got him to the hostel. Next morning he had no wallet or anything. Luckily his passport was in the safe at the hostel. He was supposed to leave that day too. Point being, don't get blackout drunk, especially when traveling alone.
Personally... I think traveling solo is awesome. I think it's slightly better with 1 or 2 other people who are independent, chill, and don't give any fux what you do.
I personally prefer to be with one or two friends when traveling. Have done the solo thing and it definitely has its benefits though. Wouldn't let being solo keep me from going on a trip though.
What's the best travel watch site to follow for really cheap flight deals? I follow airfarewatchdog but you have to put in where you want it to alert you about and I'd rather random suggestions come up
did the Seattle thread get lost in the crash? going to Seattle for 4 days in August... then taking Train to Vancouver for 4 days will be there with 5 friends cannot wait
Europe was very expensive but the rest wasn't bad. Cabo is a cheap flight to LAX, booked hotel on points, and you can get drunk very cheap down there. Sonoma is another cheap LAX flight, and I stayed with family who was randomly in town that week and they were very generous with paying for things. That said, I do believe in not skimping out when traveling. I don't get much time off so try to maximize it when I do.
I was going to book one, but was told by two ppl to wait until you get down there and book only a few days in advance. I have the names on my computer i can look up when Im home. But there will usually be room for 1 or 2 more on any given trek. And Ive been told to avoid the Inca trail, but i stead do Salkantay or Lares. I think we're doing the Lares. Apparently the Inca trail is borderline crowded with ppl. Seattle is, not surprisingly, awesome.
Hopefully you didn't have to spend to much time there, that part of the shore really sucks. Also, you better have tried Pepe's.
6 days a week at the plant lol. But I pretty much never leave the power plant unless i'm running errands. What is Pepe's?
Frank Pepe's is the best thin crust pizza in the country and probably the only place in CT that you have to go to. It's in New Haven which shouldn't be too far for you.
I work for a consumer products company, and small kitchen appliances that we sell here for $50 are anywhere from $100-$150 in Sydney and still sell well. Same freaking product with a different plug.
Just checked theflightdeal site and im highly considering booking that belize flight, taking a water taxi to Caye Caulker for a long weekend then coming back.
No I prefer Mount Haleakla on East Maui. Great morning sunrise, I recommend doing a bike ride down after watching the sunrise.
Leaving tonight for work in Sydney for 3 weeks tonight. I thought travelling for work a lot would be cool but this is my fifth time going to AUS/NZ in the past year and it's starting to be a bit of a drain on relationships and I'm getting a little tired of it. Oh well, there could be worse problems I guess.
