I used it in Japan, worked decently well, but you need either data or wifi. Taking a picture and having it translate written Japanese was super helpful though.

You would want a car if you wanted to go to other areas obviously. What I would do is a snorkel tour one day and a waterfall tour (zip line?) on another and then a taxi/bus to the "nice" beach that is a few miles away. That's 3 days. The other time can be spent walking around old San Juan.

I'm worried about that duration if youre alone tbh. Unless you're able to really relax alone. I think you will get bored. It's not like NYC type action. More Bahamas style.

Yea it's probably longer than ideal, but it was cheaper flights by a good deal and I have to use the vacation before the middle of January. I also thoroughly enjoy sitting on a beach by myself drinking beer and reading so daytime show wouldn't be as much of an issue. But yea I'd like to meet some folks for the night time ideally.

You'll be fine then. Ready to go home for sure though ha. There is also a kayak tour at night that goes through the luminescent(?) water.

yeah we rented a car but didn't really use it once we got to Old San Juan. We were there I think 5 nights. 1 night in Vieques. Then 4 on OSJ. Old San Juan is very safe so I would just wander around at night to various bars and meet people. We met a good mix of locals and tourists. Youre there 5 nights. It might be worth it to try and get out to Vieques and stay a couple nights. Im pretty sure you can get a single engine Cessna plane ride out there for like $75.

Would be awesome, no way I could do it now (unless I want to quit my job).

Istanbul...no thanks. Imagine there might be a change to that itinerary.

    http://www.remoteyear.com/how-it-works/

How is it different from having a remote job and traveling on your own? I guess they just set it up for you and handle all the logistics?

There will be a $2,000 fee on the 1st of every month of Remote Year in addition to a $3,000 down payment to reserve your spot.

Am I reading that right in that it costs fucking $27K?

Well they just started. Dude started it after selling his company to Groupon for a ton of cash

Its 50 bucks to apply and they get like 50k applications for each cycle. There's also money leftover for sure after the 2k a month that goes to housing, flights, etc. The more they get running, the more they'll make

man, just messing around on this site for flights in May/June for my europe trip, I'm getting waaaaaay cheaper rates than Google flights and other search engines. Are these hiding for a reason? (for instance, Boston-Dublin on Norwegian Air with RynAir connection is like $250/person)

$27K/person x 75 ppl. That's expensive as fuck, over $2 mil gross right there.

Plus the application fee Ark mentioned.

I wouldve been all about this if it was around when I graduated. Prolly wouldve ended up borrowing a shitload more in student loans to fund it, more than I already took out for travel.

Obviously not working very hard today. Just messing around with somewhere to go for a week to 10 days around July 4 this summer

    (1) Iceland
    (2) Rio/Sao Paulo (Delta has a redeye that leaves ATL at 9 PM and gets to Rio at 8 AM the next day, and only 75k skymiles. Also has a redeye to Buenos Aires)
    (3) Spain
    (4) Cuba

Brazil would be exactly one month before the Olympics. Think that would be a good or bad thing? I don't know if I'd want to be there for the Olympics, imagine it'd be a madhouse and 50-75% increase in everything. But on the other hand, it's the damn Olympics and would be pretty awesome to experience.

Has anyone seen a good summary anywhere of the best way to travel to Cuba now after the embargo was lifted? It's on my short list, maybe next summer or something.

I have a buddy that went, and I've been looking into it as well.

Best way is to buy a ticket from US--Cancun, and then buy a separate ticket from Cancun--Havana, only like a 45 minute flight. Cancun is pretty cheap to get to, and the flight to Havana is only like $2-300. It just has to be on a Mexican airline.

You have to fall into 12 'categories' to justify a trip: http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/17/travel/cuba-travel-feat/
But my friend went and said he wasn't really hassled at all and didn't worry about it.

As far as I know, if you buy those flights and get there, you're good to go. I'd prolly still have some b/s reason in the back of my head in case I'm questioned.

Don't go to Sao Paulo. There's plenty to do in Rio for 7-10 days. When I went the exchange rate was about $1 Real to $0.45 USD. Now it's down to $.27 USD so it's even more affordable.

Sao Paulo is just a big concrete jungle, which is fine, but there isn't anything unique to it. Rio, on the other hand, has some amazing natural beauty and just a lot to do. I don't think you'd have a bad time in SP, I just think Rio is that much better and one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The mark up will be more than 50-75%. I was in London right before the 2012 olympics and a hostel bed in a shitty dorm room was over $100/night. Also, Brazil during the world cup was way marked up too. Our hotels and airbnbs were about 4x the price they were offered for when it wasn't the world cup. Rio is pretty amazing though, and Buenos Aires isn't far and as I've told people in the past is one of my top 3 favorite cities in the world. You could do both in 10 days, and maybe even snag a day or two at iguazu falls.

Did you go to Iguazu? Reading on it now.

Looks like it can be done in a single day, with some folks recommending devoting 2 days to see both the Brazilian and Argentinian side.

I would think Rio-->Iguazu-->Buenos Aires makes the most sense, but don't want to devote too much time to Iguazu in such a short trip.

Speaking of South America, had a buddy who got high one night and decided he was going to go to Easter Island. Within two months, he got his scuba license and took a flight to Chile - spent 6 days in Chile and 4 days in Easter Island, scuba diving, hiking, partying, etc. Seemed like an unbelievable trip from what he showed me and was pretty unique.

We actually went to Iguazu because it was cheaper to fly BA to Iguazu argentina, spend a night, cross the border and fly foz de iguazu brazil to natal than to fly directly ba to natal (like saved $400) so we figured why not? Our flight from BA got delayed so we got to Iguazu around 1pm. We just saw the argentina side and it was amazing, definitely worth the trip, but I felt I got the gist of it in a few hours. I wouldn't personally do more than one day. It would be hard to do both sides in one day and consensus is the Argentina side is better. If you plan on going, look into flying domestic between rio and foz de iguazu though and taking a cab across the border and flying domestic iguazu argentina to BA. You could possibly save a decent amount of money doing this rather than flying into/out of the same iguazu area airport.

You and wolfpck are bros, right?

Most of the big shit is sold out. I'm not a fan of the big "all-you-can-drink" parties. Too crowded. Amateur hour. Overpriced for what you get. Etc. I asked a chick (wolfpck has met) and she literally wrote "Idk things in ATL that's not sold out... buckhead ball haha" -- which actually has a pretty good guy playing, RAC. Check him out on Spotify. There will be plenty of hot chicks there, but like I said, the open bar parties aren't really my thing.

Of course you also have the CFA Bowl as an option as well.

Im actually staying at wolfpck when I come down. We have a few friends who feel the best idea is to buy tickets to an event. Im more on the fence of just picking a bar to go to. We did toss around buckhead ball and buckhead block party, but I wasn't a fan of committing this early to something noone has endorsed yet. Still looking at options but The Ivy did look cool.
