boots are serious business. I do respect the perspective you come from in this thread even if our experiences and regionalism leads us to disagree.
I don't know what to tell you man. My family has been in the cattle business before barbed wire. I have been around it my whole life and have family and friends in the industry all over the state. I've agreed that the square toe is much more popular with the agriculture industry as a whole right now, but so are those retarded Justin slip ons. There are tons of guys that don't wear square toe boots that wear boots pretty much every day here. It's just silly to see you say nobody wears them when thousands of people do.
Aren't they fucking awful? Seems everyone up here thinks the fake ostrich slip ons are a high class fashion statement.
I call them cowboy crocs. For those who have never seen them, these are all the rage in the ag world.
They look like a Dutch clog. Our foreman says they've prolonged the amount of years he can work because they're so comfortable and easy on his back. They all have some excuse.
Tell your foreman to invest in these: My boots: Spoiler Rubber sole pair for hunting/shit kicking. Have a pair of leather sole that are similar and probably the most comfortable boots I own, but the sole is falling apart and I'm not gonna pay $50 to have a pair of $120 boots re-soled. I love Ariats though. My buddies swear by HH's though. Anybody have any experience with them? For the bars/football games. Have drunkenly beat the shit out of these boots and I love em. Also have a pair of custom Luskey's that are full quill ostrich, tobacco on the bottom with bone tops, my initials on the pull straps and some designs on the tops. Awesome looking pair of boots, but not that comfortable. Pretty pissed at Luskeys for the fit. Won't buy from them again. Next purchase will be a pair of Lucchese's.
Guess I got lucky with my lusky's, I love they way they fit. I can remember lots of guys complaining though. I really want a custom pair from ML Leddys.
I got them stretched out and put in Ariat insoles, which makes them better, just seems like you shouldn't have to do that for an extremely expensive custom pair of boots. Never heard of ML Leddy's, but I like what I see when I image searched them, but their website kinda sucks. What price range are they in? I'd like to get a pair of nice dark brown boots for less than $400 that I can wear often and are comfortable, but not freak out about if they get scuffed a little.
Leddys will run you 1k +. Definitely pricey but for custom you're usually looking at about 800 starting out anyways. Pricey but they last forever. Still haven't gotten around to dropping that kind of dough on a pair of boots though.
Damn, I'll wait until I'm a couple years out of LS to look into that kinda boot, or I'll ask for em as a grad present. My Luskey's were a Marry Christmas/Happy Birthday from my folks for my Jr. and Sr. year of college, and probably graduation present, too.
I'd really like to get a pair from the guy who has been making them for us for a long time in Amarillo but he and my dad had a falling out cause my dad kept sending them back.
what are some of the differences in feel/durability/etc between rubber sole/heel and leather? I know leather isn't as durable but I'm assuming that leather has some advantages and that nicer boots usually have leather soles/heels.
leather soles just look nicer imo. if you have a nice pair of boots, rubber soles just look awkward. i did have one pair of justins that had a rubber sole, but they weren't all rubber if that makes sense. they had a roper look but with a cowboy boot heel. the bottom of the heel was rubber, the heel itself like a normal cowboy boot heel, and the rest of the sole was rubber as well, but a harder rubber. if rubber looked nicer, i'd get rubber on all my boots. i wear my boots everyday, and i'll walk through a pair of leather soles every year. rubber soles last way longer and have way more grip that leather.
I'd also say that if you're going to spend the money on an exotic of some kind to always get leather so they can be resoled and extend the life of the boot. The sole will almost always go before the hide and I've seen some rubber soled ostrich Ariats that start cracking out and end up being thrown away even though the ostrich is just getting broken in.
really like some of the lucchese ropers. I'm not a huge fan of ostrich, alligator, and some of the other exotics. I like the more plain look of buffalo and goat. I like these: http://www.lucchese.com/products_detail.php?id=526 these are western lucchese that I like:http://www.lucchese.com/products_detail.php?id=2735 http://www.lucchese.com/products_detail.php?id=187
I think I'd go with the first pair. I have the last pair and they fit pretty narrowly and the sole wore out pretty quickly.
Is this any kind of boot or just cowboy boot talk? I need a pair for work over here. Work in an "office" so I can't really wear combat boots but I'm not really trying to drop serious dough on a pair to wear in gravel and rocks and dust all day.
Tony Llama runs really narrow. Justin is a good boot for the price. Ariats are pretty durable. Lucchesse and Rios of Mercedes are the 2 best boot makers in my opinion. Those are a little dressier and have a lot of options in exotic animal skin. What will you be using them for?
That's what I was thinking but I was looking at options. I've seen some boots I like but they weren't really cowboy boots. Wish I could remember what they were calked
I ended up getting Tony Lama cognac conquistador shoulder for $150 (medium toe) I liked the way that the way that the Lucchese ones felt better (they already felt broken in), but I just couldn't justify paying more for them at this time. The Tony Lamas felt great except for being more stiff (obviously not broken in). If I end up liking the Tony Lamas then I'll get some dressier (prolly exotic) Luccheses. I am a little nervous about the size. My foot is pretty narrow, so that isn't a problem, but I usually wear most of my shoes a 1/2 size larger than my foot for comfort. With these I bought the actual size of my foot thinking that they will stretch to my foot, they feel fine just different (I actually wore even another 1/2 size smaller in the Lucchese).
Those should mold nicely to your foot when broken in. I usually have to size down a bit in boots too. I think you'll be buying a second pair sooner than you think.
Currently wear these mostly: http://www.cavenders.com/western/co...hoes/exotic-traditional-toe-boots/LM032203-01 If I don't go Leddy's for my next pair (big commitment), I'll probably go with something like these Lizard's:
I just can't get into Lizards. They're a beautiful boot, but I don't think I could pull them off. I like the Caiman belly for the smooth exotic surface
