Robert Mays calling everyone 'buddy' at the beginning of the pods every time is weird. Especially when he does it to Mallory Rubin. I thought that was a special thing he had with Barnwell.
if I have to put up with your autistic ass in the Dodger thread, you'll just have to tolerate me in the Simmons thread
you got me good. make sure to get into the Taylor Swift thread and tell them how ugly she is. Go into the Nebraska thread and tell them how much you hate their team. Go into the Red Wings thread and shit on them non-stop. 'preciate it
The show is better than it probably should be at this point. I've enjoyed it for the most part. I didn't get the Duncan segment this week, though. The stuff he was saying about him was fine. He said something about a belt at the beginning, never really said what it was, and then said "you have the belt" at the end without ever talking about it. I watched it online, so maybe I just saw a condensed version of the segment, but it was weird.
I enjoy Kevin Clark immensely as a writer and think he will put out good writing in the fall, but he is awful on the pod with Mayes.
Worked with him at the Miami Herald. Really nice guy and a great writer. But you are right, he's not good speaking off the cuff.
I don't like how he throws out stats yet provides no context to why that stat may exist. I was listening to them discuss RBs and he was talking about Le'Veon Bell. One of the things he marked as a negative was his Receiving Yards Per Game dropped from 50ish to 33 a game, while failing to mention that he played 1 game with Roethlisberger and had to deal with Vick and Landry Jones.
no way Jacoby leaves ESPN imo guy went from being a producer to being a cohost of a national daily radio show in like 4 years
He must really love working for Bill, if that's the case. Unless Bill is going to have him co-host the show or something.
Him and Juliet do need to reunite. But I cannot imagine him leaving his own radio show on ESPN radio.
Still listen to his podcast and watch his show but he has become such a Boston homer douche. He said he was disappointed with Brady for not thanking the Boston fans that "fought" for him during the deflategate situation
Does Jacoby do anything else at ESPN now? I think he used to produce a lot of the Grantland studio stuff, and I could see him maybe deciding to leave ESPN if he's just doing the radio show now and wants to do more. I don't want to Jalen and Jacoby to split up, though. That show amuses me.
He is so self-important haha. "Wonder if Prince was as big a basketball fan that he would've known who I was?"
@BenLindbergh Hi friends: Today’s my last day at ESPN. (Wasn't the same once Bayless left.) Tomorrow’s my first day at The Ringer.
Came from BAseball prospectus to grantland to 538 to the ringer. His podcast is the best baseball podcast
Lindbergh is one of my favorite baseball guys. It's kind of interesting that Simmons doesn't seem to care at all about baseball outside of the Red Sox and his AL only fantasy keeper league, but his baseball hires at both sites have been outstanding.
And his basketball pod is still It's July and I know there's not much to talk about but Juliet Littman and Chris Ryan? Really hoping for a bigger name than Tjarks by November/December
I kind of like Juliet and Ryan together, but I'm not listening to them for their basketball insight. Just keep that mongoloid Tate from speaking on a podcast ever again. Listen to Lowe and/or Open Floor for the insight.
The hoops and baseball pods are laughably bad. Lindbergh would be a big addition. Would love to see Keri back too. Or conversely he can go back to mostly baseball on his own pod.
Yeah the ringer podcasts are seriously lacking. Keeping it 1600 is boring and repetitive. Even Barnwell is stuck doing bachelorette review pods on ESPN.
Disagree w 1600. Love that pod. It's the only one I consistently listen to. The rest heavily depends on the guest or topic.
Shackhouse is the tits, Geoff and House have great chemistry and their gambling segments before majors have won me some cash this year.
they've got potential with the Scotland travel segment too. Do a kind of Matt Ginella thing where they talk about a weekend in X place, where to stay, play and EAT.
Really enjoyed the Baseball pod w Passan. Hearing his talk about his approach in dealing with sources and the whole trade rumor atmosphere was really interesting.
The NFL podcast did the top 10 football players from movies/tv and it was a great listen. Hearing them argue about Little Giants was great
gave it another shot. my opinion is unchanged. Simmons acting like his argument was serious business while everyone else was treating it like a joke killed the whole thing for me
