i knew the dornishmen were dark skinned, but i didn't realize they were turk like. what is their accent supposed to sound like?
you guys didn't pull up a map like half the time you read? i was all the time googling westeros maps trying to find good ones to figure out where stuff was. usually used this one:
i just generally love maps too so as soon as the first book started describing where things were i found one online. also because i'm reading on a kindel so I can't just flip back to the ones in the front of the books.
i used that map in a presentation. i like how is separates the different "kingdoms". when i read i just used the maps in the book.
i only remember them saying they get slaves from those islands to the east of naath, dany's handmaiden girl. but i dont remember anything about people inland
the kings landing territory I think is technically part of Dragonstone, since that's where the Targaryen's ruled from.
Well if you count Kings landing and Dragonstone separately there are 9 kingdoms on that map, I had already lumped Kings Landing and Dragonstone into one.
Yea I'm agreeing with that. Kings landing and all the red territory in that map I posted a while up were just considered Dragonstone land when the Targaryen's ruled.
Used that map and also always wondered why there were 8 kingdoms. Is the red mountains area with the sun and arrow through it a kingdom? Hasn't been mentioned yet but I'm only in the middle of ACOK
You have much to learn young padwan, but yes, it's one of the 7 original kingdoms (not counting kings landing)
The Dorne are mainly talked about in AFFC and ADWD right? Did you all like those books? I heard they were a huge letdown after ASOS (which I'm currently reading)
Ok so will someone please list the 7 original kingdoms then? Which of the 8 on the mainland was not one of the 7?
AFFC is the worst of the five so far, but ADWD was awesome in my mind. Some of my favorite characters are revisited.
they are still good, they just aren't on the same level as ACOK and ASOS. You could also argue that they are different in that you get the feeling as you are reading them that they are setting up WOW and ADOS to be the best in the series.
yea but there were seven kingdoms for a long time before that. I'm guessing King's Landing was just put together from pieces of land taken from Riverun & Storm's End (maybe some Highgarden), but I do wonder what Dragonstone was at the time of the Seven Kingdoms.
I think it's mentioned in Book 5 that Dragonstone was held by the Targaryens while they were still in Valyria, but they didn't move there until the Doom of Valyria. I can't remember what they used it for before the Doom, but they held it for some reason.
I know, I loved it, I think some people expected more plot progress, but you have to remember the first half or so is just catching up with AFFC
my least favorite of the series but still better than a lot of other books I have read and told people I enjoyed
Going through AFFC as of right now. Definitely not as many "WTF!" moments but learning about the other families is interesting. Not really feeling the Ironborn and Cersei is still a dumb cunt, but I am really liking the people of Dorne.
